  • i thought you were gonna go western dragon, not eastern

  • Damn.... This is 2 months in 2 minutes o.O

  • how long did you spent on that?

  • amazing my friend where can i find those eyes?

  • u got some serious skills bro, I would love to have one of those on my wall

  • @DanMonsterMan hey no problemo, I have always been a big fan of art and always interested of the artistic world, but with you doing this paper mâché is just mind blowing. Huh, my parents even thought this was made of stone and paint until I showed them your video. Keep on the hard work! And who knows? You might become a famous paper mâché artist and get one of your pieces in an art museum! Now that is awesome!

  • @DanMonsterMan huh, you don't say? I think you are great enough to make such eyes, I mean look at all your other paper mâché projects! Those a very impressive and I am pretty sure you can make the eyes just as perfect! But I guess you can say they do add on quite well! It would be so bad ass if it were a whole statue! Lol have fun!

  • @XxTheReptileGirlxX

You are too kind. Thank you for your kind remarks and your interest. It means a lot to me.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan oh cool! Did you hand paint them or was it already finished?

  • @XxTheReptileGirlxX

I actually got the eyes from a taxidermy company. I couldn't make such beautiful eyes and they really add to a project like this.

    Take care

    Dan

  • This is so hard to believe that this is made out of paper mâché! How did you even make the eyes???

  • @XxTheReptileGirlxX

Well, I cheated with the eyes. Those are glass.

Thank you for the nice comments.

    Dan

  • This is so hard to even be

  • @XxTheReptileGirlxX

Thank you for the nice comment! I'm glad you like it.

    Dan

  • Wow! This is so good!!

You must be really patient! :D

  • @thisisblueyes

Thank you for the nice comment. I guess I am pretty patient. I'm willing to work hard on something I like.

    Dan

  • Very nice work man!

I wanted to ask if you would be able to tell me what that black liquid you used at 2:01 is called.

    Thanks!

  • @bboy11998877

That is just black paint that has been watered down. Paint it on, wipe it off before the paint dries. I call the process "blackwashing". It brings out the details and heightens the colors.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan

    Ah yes indeed,

    thanks for replying :)

    Buena suerte.

    Dan

    PS. Soy una maestra.

  • wow this is amazing :D just so incredibly detailed how long did this take you?? i would love to know :D!!!

  • @Blach1234

Thank you for the nice comment! This took me maybe three weeks to make. But that was in bursts of one or two hours with drying time in between.

  • what material did u use in those strips in the last part of video? and the stuff you put inside the dragons mouth?

  • @ResidenEvil4Leon222

    Hello,

That is cloth dipped in white glue. I call the process "cloth mache".

    Take care

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan is it pure white glue? or mixed with water too?

  • @ResidenEvil4Leon222

No, no water. I use it full strength.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan okay thanks! lastly what kind of paper mache paste are you using? the kind of mixture..

  • epic , how heavy is it

  • @SAMsolarflare

Thank you! The trophy weighs about 8 pounds (I'm guessing). It's not too bad.

  • @nonnywood76

Thank you for the nice comment! I too love dragons. I make other things, but I always end up back with dragons. You should make one too. You would love it more than getting one from me. Many people have made trophies like this using this video and/or my books. Just a thought.

  • @platta6

  • @TiAmAtRiA07

Yes, but the baby will grow up with fond memories of dragons in his/her head!

    Dan

  • how to make pulp for paper mache?

  • @kler734

Hello. I don't use the pulp version of paper mache. I use flour and water paste and strips of newspaper for the first stage. My final "skin" is cloth dipped in glue. You can find much more information on my site, GourmetPaperMache (dot com) and my blog, PaperMacheBlog (dot com) if you are interested.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan Dont think about my time :)

I just want you to know that it is amazing what you did there :)

  • @KarateNissen

Well that is still very kind of you. I see you are from Denmark. You are young so you probably don't know her, but my favorite singer is Tina Dico. She is from Denmark. You should make a trophy for yourself. You could do it.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan Yes i know her. But if you rhink she is good, then listen to Medina.

And i dont think i can make the troothys right now. I allready now try to make some out of paper wich is foldet.

  • @KarateNissen

  • @pontyfaxjr

    Hello there,

Thank you for the kind words. Not too much planning went into it. It was mostly just execution. It took a few weeks to complete along with the video. I'm very happy you liked it.

    Dan

  • Gorgeous! I could see that on my wall. How long did it actually take to make?

  • @Melayahm01

This project probably took me a month or so. Of course there is drying time as well. Hard to say exactly how long anything takes.

Thank you for the nice comment.

  • I have a few questions about the glue and stuff. What is the best size for the paper strips and what is your favorite type of paper to use? Also I tend to do my best work when the glue is still warm, does the temperature make a difference?

  • @Abbist711

I like newspaper. I tear a section of newspaper in half, so the size of the strips are fairly large. I don't heat my flour and water paste at all. Well, sometimes I use warm water out of the tap just because it feels better.

    Good luck!

    Dan

  • Sir you ARE AMAZING! You really inspire me! Im starting this comedy skit show on youtube and I would love to have one of your pieces as a prop or something. You think you can make it happen?

  • @LXohLX

Wow, high praise indeed! Thank you so much for the compliment. I really appreciate it. I'm not sure about using pieces as a prop. These are really expensive to ship, in the hundreds of dollars because they are big and require specially made shipping crates. I am flattered.

Good luck on your venture. It sounds great. I'll make sure to watch what you make.

  • @fireray123

Well, you can have one for your B-day. Only you have to make it. And you can! Give it a try. You'd love it much more than if someone made it for you. Seriously.

    Dan

  • What do you use for the texture scales of the Dragon?

  • @cynthiavlove

The scales are pieces of cloth dipped in glue and folded. You can find more information about these techniques on my site, GourmetPaperMache (dot com) and my blog, PaperMacheBlog (dot com) if you are intrerested.

    Dan

  • @ChrisGamble37

  • @SigmaStasDS

Thank you so much. I'll have a new video posted this weekend in case you are interested.

    Dan

  • you're a middle school teacher, and you can do this. amazing.

PS do you show your students your art?

  • @katherinerocks53

    Hi Katherine,

Strange..someone flagged your comment as spam. Don't know why someone would do that. I've taught for many years (this is my 38th) in grades 4 through 12. It was when I was teaching elementary many years ago that I had the kids make monsters ("Screamers"). That's what launched my art and my books. I still enjoy teaching, and it gives me some time to do art in the summers. It's nice to meet another middle school teacher. It's a great age to teach.

    Dan

  • @katherinerocks53

And PS. Even though I'm teaching math, I do bring in some of my work once in a while, just for fun.

We're going camping next week for three days. What fun.

    Take care

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan

Mr. Dan; I've seen your instructional videos at your website (one of many), and you said you only used water and cheap flour to make the paper mache paste, and in those videos the paste looks white, but in this one it looks somewhat creamy in color, perhaps yellow (I'm color blind).

Is there a different formula you use? Or recipe? Also, do you really just use white glue for your cloth mache? Hope you can give me some advice... I'm planning on making some samurai.

  • @3vercxret543

Hi there. I think the color difference is just the light. I only use cheap white flour and water for the initial past. Nothing fancy. No cooking, no additives. And yes, I use just white glue, Elmer's usually, but PVA from Home Depot would work fine. And the cheapest old sheet you can find at the Thrift store for cloth. The older the better. Old sheets are more maleable.

Good luck with your samurai. Let me know if you have more questions.

    Dan

  • I am a middle school art teacher and showed this video to my students during their mask project. What was that yellow stuff thta was draped? Also, what were the teeth made of? Incredible job!!

  • @mona102358

Thank you for the nice comment. I'm glad you could use the video. What was draped was cloth (an old bedsheet). I made the teeth out of "Fimo" but any polymer clay will work. If you are interested, I have a lot of information on my site, GourmetPaperMache (dot com) and my blog, PaperMacheBlog (dot com).

I'm glad you are showing the kids paper mache.

    Dan

PS. I am a middle school teacher too, only I teach math. Summer is coming!

  • I can't believe how amazing paper mache can be!~

  • @Reiki101

Thank you very much! I really appreciate the nice comment!

    Take care

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan it doesn't look like 10 pounds. LOL

  • @nightowl61inokc

Yeh, I guess I really don't know how much it weighs.

    Dan

  • i love, love, love this thing! was it heavy?

  • @nightowl61inokc

Hi there. This isn't too heavy. As you can see, it was pretty easy to hang on the wall. Maybe 10 pounds.

    Dan

  • your so good

  • how long did it take you to do this

  • @djherojoy

    Hello there,

This particular project took me about three weeks to build. But I only work in spurts, a few hours at a time, and there is drying time between work periods.

    Thanks for your interest.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan your welcome also you have great talent

  • muitooo louco valeu

  • @claudioapm

Muito obrigado pelo seu comentário maravilhoso!

    Dan

  • Is that paper mâché on the outside or masking tape?

  • @icebreakersix1nine

I sculpt with paper mache balls and masking tape. The outside, the "skin" is cloth dipped in white glue. I call the process "cloth mache".

    Dan

  • Am I trippin' balls, or did that dragon just magicly stick to the wall?

  • @theGirlFlippy

Yes indeed, it was magic! That's why I gave her a little kiss. Thank you for your nice comments!

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan It is magic! If I hadn't seen this video I would have thought you got it professionally made!!

  • @theGirlFlippy

You are funny. In fact, it was professionally made...I'm the professional.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan XD lol!!

  • what type of paste did you use? I'm starting a project now and not sure what will be good

  • @dontkillthekoala

I just use flour and water paste. Nothing fancy. Mix to consistency of soup. That's it.

    Good luck

    Dan

  • Where did you get the eye??

  • @SmileyMcCrazy

I got these eyes from a taxidermist. There are several online you can get them from.

    Dan

  • My art professor wants me to make a giant paper mache sculpture, I was thinking of a dragon. :)

  • @StaceyTheFLE

That would be a great choice! Of course I'm biased. I'm making a nice dragon on my blog right now if you are interested, PaperMacheBlog (dot com).

    Good luck

    Dan

  • Did not expect the kiss on the cheek...

  • @KKRABS8

    I just love my dragons.

    Dan

  • @KKRABS8 I kiss all of my paper mache creations, I just feel a compulsion to do so.

  • @55giratina

Thank you for the enthusiastic comment! And yes, you should build one. It' s great fun!

    Dan

  • Wow. Absolutely brilliant!........and so fast! ;o)

  • @Monkeyslash

  • @buciorjakub

    TTTHHHAAANNNKKKSSS!!!

    Dan

  • to hang the trophy do you stick a cardboard on the back and hang it that way trying to make a trophy too:)

  • @aisumi123

I do have cardboard on the back. But I use the clothes hangers that were inside the head to carry the weight. I have them protruding from the back of the trophy.

    Good luck on your project!

    Dan

  • OMG AAHHHHHH THAT IS COOOLLLL!!!

  • OMG AAHHHHHH THAT I COOOLLLL!!!

    Dan

  • Out of curiosity, what do you make the teeth out of? I've seen you do it before in another video but I can never tell what it is exactly. it has an awesome effect and i'd love to learn the secret!

  • @GlompoFie

I use a product out of "Fimo", a plastic material that you bake in the oven. You can get it at any hobby shop.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan Ah thanks! I love the effect it has, very clean and real looking.

  • ur video was very fast

  • @rizoo1999

Yes, it is time lapse video. If it wasn't fast the video would be hours long to finish.

    Dan

  • Are you a Genius?????????????????? oh my restroom oh my.. This is crazy... no one can give effort and time like that to make one thing.. you are the true artist oh my... I have never seen an awesome thing like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
