I'll attest to this methods success. I heard about this through my brother and after wrapping my XBox in three towels and a trash bag (made the process of it heating up only last about ten minutes) and following these steps verbatim, I am now dealing with a fully functioning XBox. This shit works. .. for E74 that is.

This is only a temporary fix. After doing this with my first 360, it lasted around a month. Sent it to MS, who changed the motherboard. After a while, the DVD drive started randomly ejecting discs in game. All in all, caution is advised - overheating the unit can damage other parts.

IT WORKS!!! I'm so happy it did this time. My other 360 console had a different error so a friend helped me out with this. He said I had nothing to lose, and he had me verify what error it was because I didn't know that it displayed on screen. I guess the part about letting it cool down afterward is true, but it was less than twenty minutes... I think...

@vidphile1 Just a quick update. This time when I did it (lasted less than a week), the console shut itself down after... oh, I'd say less than five minutes or so. I kept turning it back on, not realizing that it had "done its thing" far more quickly than Mr. Cowell said in his video (but of course it still worked). And I need to make a disclaimer that my results may not be typical, but I'm really happy to be getting back to Gundam, so happy gaming, everyone!

ive done this trick on three different xboxes....two of the xboxes would auto shutoff after less than 5mins in the towels and alot of people think thats why the towel trick didnt work! you may have to turn the xbox back on a few times inside the towels before it stays on...and gets LOUD and hot....eventually it will run for about 25mins like this before it autoshuts off again producing the OVERHEAT error(2 rings).

so basically, make sure ur xbox isnt shutting itself off inside the towels!

Guys this can damage your xbox! You have to take the xbox apart and clean it. And if you do this, it's temporalily and your games will freeze.

GUYS READ THIS: He didnt say to let it cool down, so AFTER you let it heat up turn it off and remove the power cable and let it cool for 20-30 mins THEN turn it on. I hate asking but thumbs up so people can see.

AND if you are sick of temporary fixes, buy a fifteen dollar repair kit on eBay or offline and fix it using the YouTube videos on here that show you how to do it internally.

By the way for people wanting to know, this does work. It is a temporary fix though. If you still have a warranty through Xbox don't do this, it does in fact void your warranty because it changes things internally that they check for when you send it in. If you are like me and you don't have the option of sending it in because it's modded or your warranty has expired, do it. This will work for 0-7 days.

errr thanks dude but for some reason it didnt work i mean ive had the three red rings and i tried it and it worked and then the next day i switched it back on and then it got the three red rings again so me and my dad took the x clamps of and cleaned the heat sinks and everything and its still broke

The X-Clamps pull the CPU and GPU off the mobo.

If you could open up your 360 after this is done, and replace the X-Clamps with with a few nuts and bolts it would end all your suffering.

thats why u should put it resting on its side because usually gravity has an effect with the disc put in vertical, it sometimes slips down right be4 it goes into the xbox so it rotates on a bad angle ending up scratching the game disc.
