Cool concept, but people don't realise that to get everyone flying, requires more than the actual aircraft itself to be sorted, that's almost the easy bit. The hard bit is airspace & the organization of it, it requires a fundamental shift in how all airspace is currently works. This is the biggest issue regarding everybody flying personal aircraft. The amount of legislation change required is unfathomnable!
well i guess that the future of personal transportation in an economically doomed world are expensive personal aircrafts. you can imagine the success: people who live in a bankrupt country like US and in a collapsed Europe Union where life is a struggle for every single citizen, will make endless lines to buy them.
now will all have to get a pilots licence guess its not so bad but what happens when the battery dies i hear crash in the future, now a redundt battery back up that can kick in as needed only that would work.. not sure if redunt is the best word but back up battery needed
great technology, but this wouldn't work in a Capitalist system, it would work much better in a RBE system. Imagine using one to go to your friends house, then, when you disembark from it, it will take off and fly to the next place to transport someone else that has put in a request for it over the computer network all these services are provided for FREE!
The cost of maintenance would still be a nightmare. You have to have each blade of the props x-rayed, the air frame inspected bolt-by-bolt, and every control surface poked and prodded by a certified technician. Unless you can afford $10-20K a year to maintain it (and most of us can't), it'll be a toy for the very rich just like most personal aircraft.
@Threetails Sounds like a typical Annual Aircraft Inspection to me, mine cost less than $1000 each time, and it ensures that my plane will get me from A to B safely. By the way, I'm not rich, by any standards, but I own an airplane because in some cases it is more practical than a car (obviously I'm talking about distant trips).
Mr. Kamen is one of the few people I would love to have the opportunity to sit and talk with some day. I know I have some ideas he would be interested in if anything just to see them come to fruitition.
Won't happen. Not that it can't or shouldn't, but because the TSA would demand that everyone with one of these craft hire a full time TSA agent to molest them every time before they take off. We can all forget any product that gives us more freedom, until and unless we destroy the predators-that-be and the predator class that is enslaving us like never before.
science needs imagination. but all you have no your own character and own thinking. all you are stupid as hell. actually, you can't have the brain that has infinite imagination while living in the society. your brain is one. if you try to imagine something, all people will call you as a psycho or stupid gay. and this world ends on 2012. this world is already ended. but here is no limit in this universe. we can do everything but people don't know it. and all you die like a ant.
why do we need to fly in individual air crafts or air craft. Air ships seem more practical for this day and age as the danger of them are near zero now than other aircraft. Also they have more room. They may take longer to get places . who cares
I think it could be potentially and and worthy possible if it will work on solar energy. or else it would be even more fuel consuming and people wouldnt want it.
@myvidspwn For every 100 odd ideas that fails, 1 makes it through and gets mass produced. There is huge potential for a market of personal flying machines if safety features can be guaranteed and they become economically feasible for production.

I can't wait untill everybody is flying these. I won't have to deal with nearly as much traffic when I drive my car!

It would be nice if you could deliver power to the aircraft wirelessly! That way the range would be virtually limitless!!!
eggaweb 3 weeks ago
@eggaweb yeah, like perhaps a magnet based "refueling" station on the ground that would recharge your battery as you fly over...

I like how it is electric. the only way we will be able to tolerate increased air traffic is if it is silent!

This design with an On Demand Hydrogen Fuel Cell would be nice so you can get rid of most of the battery pack!

@oneplanet07: exactly...no point in traffic jams in the air...imagine hundreds of personal aircraft wizzing around above you :D
...this is not bad for remote locations, police or army applications maybe as well, but that's about it.
