  • @youngsurvivor You have to eat protein to bulk up. Basically, 1g per pound. That means if you weigh 160, you should get about 160 grams of protein per day. Drink 1 protein shake along with a nice egg and grits in the morning. Lunch, you can do just a salad. Now, before your workout, drink a shake (maybe and hour before). Then after your workout, eat a nice protein enriched dinner.

    Don't try to be superman. You will break something. This takes years to achieve

For instance, using your example above, if that 160lb fella wants to come down to 150 muscular, strong pounds, how much protein should he eat? Thx for any help or advice.

  • @rmsolympic1 Peace and thanks.. Glad it could be of use to you. Your goal is much simpler than of those who want to bulk up. The protein is what's going to put the weight on you. Ever notice you eat tons, and are hungry a half hour later, that's because your meal was devoid of protein. Lift lighter (but more reps), and lighten up on the protein and fatty foods. Do more cardio. Drink lots of water & eat veggies. Cut back on the meat. Meat every few days (or weeks if possible).

  • So in looking at all these videos (which are awesome) I never hear any of the guys say how they got started. I mean, did they used to suck at pullups and then start doing 1000 a day, or what? Or did it just come pretty easily? And what would they recommend for people who are trying to get to a level like them?

  • bkbigfish, getting strong is never easy. They probably had good genetics to start with but anyone can be strong if they wanted to. Some people progress through years of work and start with 1 pull up, ending with 10 muscle ups.

    what ya gonna start with, is losing most of ya fat, so you arent overweight. So do some cardio and eat healthy. Then ya start up with doing some pushups and pull ups, and work ya way top the top.

    Using a jumping rope, running, running ya bike, for 20 mins a day. Then it will come fast, with a healthy diet (;

    And sugar will only be recontructed to fat, if you dont use it. Its not really a good idea eating a lot of sugar, but some wouldnt hurt that much (;

  • Sugar is good when you are working out (because of the glucose) that's where Gatorade comes in. Squats (prison squats, pop squats, jump squats) are probably among the best workouts you can do, as they work the largest muscle(s) in your body.

  • Hmmm, I'm not a nutritionist so I can't give you an exact amount of sugar, but one normal size Gatorade, while working out (about 30g I believe) should be good. An easy way to cut extra pounds is to just stick with water as your main beverage (except when working out, then drink a normal sized Gatorade). Take protein shakes (you don't have to go crazy with six shakes a day but before and after workouts should be good) or eat canned tuna because it's low-calorie and hi protein. Take a multi vita.

  • Lunges, and jump squats and you can have some decent leg build. I've found that just doing body-weight squats requires very very high reps.
