  • Got this LP in 1977 when it was called "Blues Going Up".

I wore out the 1st copy. My late father also LOVED it so much!

I went and got another copy. From then on i became a huge GB fan.

A relentless guitarist who left you breathless. Passed away far too young.

  • What a wonderful playing! Strong rhythm, fresh and clear phrasing, bright sound and of course, a lot of swing. One of the best! Thanks for posting.

  • I'm from brazil, and it's great to read some words from Barnes' son! He was such a great musician... It remembers of Chet Atkins.

And Chet admired your father... as far as I know.

  • george is incredible ! what a voice on guitar that man posessed ,,,,one of my all time heroes of music,,,thank you ! and thanks to zan17 for sharing that story with us,,,,cool !

  • thanks for posting this; george barnes was my dad...we used to watch "the flintstones" when i was very little -- but we liked "rocky & bullwinkle" better :)

  • @zan17 - George took me under his wing when I was 21. I went to Concord every week for almost 1/12 years - He was so patient and great with me. I now teach play jazz guitar in Vermont - he was a HUGE influence on me. I have 2 shoe boxes full of cassettes of our lessons. There are some George gems in there. He had a show at the Pavillion over there and he got me and my girlfriend backstage and even onstage during the show. What a great musician, great man.

  • @zan17 Hahahaha thats fantastic,
