  • so little has been done in so long time!...

should be edited, from the beginning to the finalization.

  • can you tell me what type of pen you're using? and the ink as well... :)

  • @ko2dy In an earlier video he states it's a brush he's using, not a pen, and he also lists (in a different video) the materials he used.

  • this picture sucks!!!! just kidding thats the best i have seen in a long time keep it up.

  • Anyone know some good whiteouts?

  • @tehWudge white-out...not trying to get smart with you but thats what i use.

  • @kisshardrocker14 like office type white out? hmm mine must be really old and clumpy cuz it always looks terrible

  • @tehWudge I don't think that's what he meant...

  • @tehWudge same here but thats all i really all i know of ...go to the hobby lobby website and type "white opque ink"...that MIGHT give u some things to consider

  • where can I find out about the types of pens/pencis/ markers/paint to use to create a drawing like this? The best quality ones. Thanks in advance.

  • The fat guy in the background looks like he doesn't belong! lol

  • That's really awesome.

    :D

  • does any body else think he sounds like Raymond from every body loves Raymond?

  • is there a special type of paper needed for this?

  • @360Sacleblu I would imagine bristol board (not actually a board confusing I know). It's what most comic art is drawn on if not done on a computer.

  • Was the artist here using actual whiteout? The type writer corrector stuff? I've used acrylic white paint, it's ok... Is whiteout better? I'm calm.

  • I have a penis, and, I really do love woman! and I happen to be a male submissive. Nothing is sexier to me, than a petite little woman, taking full control, over me. So, in closing, everyone is different. Men can be sissies, woman can be monsters! :)

  • she looks like a manly hooker, dyke like hooker. I have a little sister who can draw girls better than this.....

  • @toastyovens dude why would you bash on someone's art for no reason? If you are indeed an artist that draws I hope you lose your fingers. It sounds like your an idiot kid that needs a spanking.... either that or a fat whore who is mad at the world and cuts herself.. The artist in this video obviously has made a career for himself and should be shown some respect.

  • she looks like a manly hooker, dyke like hooker.

  • Can someone enumerate the materials he used, especially the paint. What are those? Amazing that you can really use eraser over them.

  • Wow! Great job with the drawing and inking. There are a lot of neat tips in this guy's lessons. It's easy to follow, but if anyone doesn't like it then...that's good too. There's no perfect art. Just take from it what you can. On the other hand...someone was complaining about the woman he drew as being too manly. All women aren't really weak looking a frail. ESPECIALLY an action comic lady

  • What's with those comments??? o.o

I say this video explained a lot of things...I don't care if this is an American Comic strip while I do Manga, those are still the same in the eyes of art...they both tell stories.. <_<

    ._.

  • @KuroUsagi529 That's what I say! But all these weirdos just like to jump out of nowhere to compare manga to American stuff when I commented on the way Americans draw women in comics, even if I never mentioned Manga or even Japan! This situation is explained in 2 simple words: FANBOYS DETECTED *sounding like a robot*

  • @Miganishi ...^^"

  • Man.. why is here a war between Manga and Comics.. its both art and hard work so SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY

  • @Electryzza I'm not in a war for manga or comic, I just said that women in American comics look manly, then this guy jumped out of nowhere and said stuff about manga when I didn't even mention it! Sure there's weird people out there, huh? Including you, where's the war? Only ONE guy compared manga to American comics, and I told him that I didn't even mention anything related to a contrast between the two D:

  • i love manga and im latino so i dont take sides from japanese or americans but i believe that american comics rule over manga comics im sorry there just more spontanious and dont seem to have the same plot over and over again and they are less degrading to woman in my opinion but art wise i cant choose they both have wonderful art and this man is very talented thanks for this video guy!

  • How on EARTH do you get that leathery texture for clothes???

  • lol... i ink with sharpie marker :P

  • This is good stuff, I admit it, but there's something very common in American comics that I don't like: WHY DO THE WOMEN HAVE KINDA MANLY FACES?? Thick lips and eyelashes aren't the only female details in a face o.O Besides, they can have actually small lips and short eyelashes, so that' snot what distinguishes men from women.

  • @Miganishi Because contrary to what you might believe women don't have eyeballs the size of baseballs, lipless alien mouths & chins that can cut strait through diamonds. I respect manga for it popularity and stupid proof accessibility for people to put themselves in the characters shoes but disapprove of it's copypaste character designs. Luckily studios now are slowly realizing the value of being different and are appreciating artists that used to be more well known in the US than japan

  • @TheRobAlva Hey hey, keep the panties on, easy bro, I didn't say that manga girls were the ultimate female or anything, I just said that girls in american comics have big chins, strong faces, you know, stuff, you don't need to draw manga to be able to draw women correctly, go see some real artwork like portraits or realistic drawing, there you see females who have human faces and yet they look like women, not with manly faces. Now that I notice... WHO DID EVER MENTION MANGA HERE??

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @hotwhire I already said that you can draw a woman who'll look female in a totally realistic way, not these manly girls Americans draw in comics, and WHO THE HELL EVER MENTIONED JAPAN!?? Go back to my comment, read it again and say, where the hell does it say "manga" or "Japan"??? God!! This is the second time someone gives me this kind of answer, you're making me loose hope on mankind. Scroll down, read my other comment, type what I said there in the youtube searcher and there's my evidence

  • @Miganishi well then, "Manly" compared to what then if you're so smart.

  • @hotwhire Like... how to say it? They have "strong features" in their face. Come on, they don't look delicate at all. This one's face is like... as squared as a strong man's, the lips are totally square instead of being a little sharper at each end (observe women in real life and you'll notice what I mean), you know, stuff. I'm not sure if this one's like what I'm about to say since we're looking at her from one side, but they even have big shoulders sometimes! And others are even muscular!

  • @Miganishi . Why do women need to look DELICATE? Other art styles (out side of western) are waaaaaaaaaay more exaggerated in representing femininity and also extremely suppressive and sexiest on the portrayal of women (most of the time). Western style art is actually more anatomically correct to natural proportions (good example is what is seen here). Besides the fact that the women tend to have larger breasts for their muscular proportions the women are show with STRENGTH and POWER in their

  • @Artofbeauty Women need to look delicate because they're delicate in this world! I'm not a sexist who goes for the "female is the weak sex" thing, but there's definitely a great difference between a guy and a girl. Women have an appeal for men, but will a strong looking woman appeal you? If it's like that you have issues, maybe in your subconscious you like men...? And don't go for the muscular matter, I know women who go to gyms and they still look female!

  • @Miganishi I think I know weather I'm DELICATE or not. Nothing is wrong with this women or how she was made. She is beautiful and feminine and the artist did an AWESOME job.

  • @Artofbeauty Yeah yeah, whatver you say. BTW you wrote weather instead of whether :/

  • @Miganishi in their character designs. I don't know what "manly" by definition is to YOU but to me (an art student who is minoring in sequential art (sequential art= comics/character concept art/anatomy) and majoring in Animation) I see nothing wrong with the proportions of the figure or her face. And now that i'm looking at it again i actually see no strong muscle tone in the figure. So what is "manly" to you? some one with a jaw line that shows? or a woman older than 13.

  • @Artofbeauty Here we go again for the last time... This woman has a very squarish face, it just gives the sensation that if you ever touch it, it'll feel hard as a rock, when women are SOFT. Watch movies, even the tomboys who act there have a female touch to them, but here they're given more manly features. In the end what I mean is that all women have a certain appeal for men, which doesn't happen with this particular one! I feel like this is a cross-dresser with fake breasts or something.

  • @Miganishi AGAIN! No women are not DELICATE. To be human in general means to be structured and built, hard and withstanding because in a NATURAL world that's what is NATURAL to be to survive. You think women need to be some ignorant defenseless thing that needs to be carried around and protected. Women are just as powerful and useful as men and women are equally as human as any man. Women are NOT delicate flowers. If anything we a more resiliant in nature than men because of how our bodies are

  • @Miganishi our bodies are built to host and feed other bodies and deliver them to the world. Our bodies are made from the get go to be more elastic resilient and tougher than a mans. We bounce back faster and go through monthly trails through out our entire lives of very critical iron deficiencies minor labor pains acute chemical changes with in our bodies that even cause use to change in shape and other physical handicaps that cause us to even be more mental unstable yet we work and live and

  • @Miganishi work and live in the same world as men and work/live under the same conditions and do not complain or ask for pity. Don't even call a women-i mean EVER call a women delicate as if we are weak. Fuck you dude! And again that women in this comic is beautifully made (even if she is fiction) there are no manly features about her and she is amazingly made with skill and talent. I applaud this fellow comic artist's inking skills and line usage.

  • @Artofbeauty I know all that, but women are delicate like it or not, which is NOT the same as weak. I'm not a sexist, I think I stated that before and it should be clear by now, I just said that there's no point in drawing "men" or "women" if you're not gonna make the difference, we're different and that's why there is an appeal. For example, you just told me "fuck you", and there's no problem, but if I tell you that, people will jump "how unpolite this guy is! Sexist! abusive, etc", right?

  • @Miganishi You keep saying "I am not a sexiest" but that's for ME and the rest of the world to decide based off YOUR actions! And people would most likely NOT care if you cursed at me on YouTube because women are equally judged. You keep saying women are delicate but that IMPLIES FRAGILE/WEAK tendancies so your contradicting yourself by saying "I'm not saying women are weak but they ARE delicate LIKE IT OR NOT" Wtf do you mean "LIKE IT OR NOT" lol I AM A WOMAN RETARD! I think i KNOW

  • @Miganishi I know you're a woman, I saw your pic on my inbox (let me tell you that you look nice if that's really you). That's why I said that I could be judged for telling you to fuck yourself and stuff before, didn't I make it clear? Of course, those who insult are the retard ones, there's simply no way someone's gonna be convinced by the words some uncivilized guy/girl will say, those who convince are the ones with a more intellectual way of speech, am I wrong? I'm not mad at you btw ^^

  • @Miganishi I hope you realized you sent this message to yourself instead of me.

  • @Artofbeauty ... Fail. Well, I was telling YOU that XD

  • @Miganishi LOLZ

  • @Miganishi anytime anyone says "Fail" your setting yourself up to look like a douchebag.

  • @hydropwnics420 Anytime anyone gets their nose where nobody call them you're setting yourself to BE a douchebag, not just look like one ^^

  • @TheRobAlva And unlike you, I give evidence of what I say in my answer, copy and paste this on the youtube searcher: Eraser Drawing - Tip of the Week 06/22/09

That video proves what I just said, and the related videos do so.

  • @TheRobAlva

Western comic books don't have copypaste characer designs? Many comic book artists try to imitate famous artists just the same as manga artists do. So you can't say manga only has that problem, because comic books do too. I agree many manga and anime has same style called the MOE style which I think is terrible, however there is other stuff like Rumiko Takahashi, Gantz, Vinland Saga, Honey and Clover +many more that don't look copy paste... huge generalization you got there.

  • @Miganishi Um... ART STYLE? That's actually very insulting to the artist when you get right down to it.

Eyelashes, big lips? Characteristics of a typical idea of an attractive woman. It's sexy. Almost kind of like that saying "Sex Sells". Almost.

And if you think all American comic girls look manly, you clearly don't read them that often. Or maybe you just have too high of standards for appearance, because I think the girl in this drawing is classy, Feminine, etc.

  • @RubyToosday123 Problem?

  • The process this guy uses is pretty awesome, seeing as the whole thing is done on one page. Sketch, inking and so forth. Awesome video, bro.

  • just for one page that looks like alot of work!!!!!

  • @fliprocks thats why 50% of the skill of being an artist is learning how to speed up the process.

  • @rouncer81 oh,So you have to be quick for that one page...

  • how do you tranfer the sketch to the actual board?

  • ah so thats how u do it...

  • I have a question. When i erase my inked drawing the inked lines get transparent, like grey. What´s happening?

  • @cherrychan209 I'm not the expert (and, um, not the person who posted the video :P ) But he mentions using a "kneaded eraser"... Is that what you're using? A Pink Pearl eraser will sometimes pick up a LOT of ink, not just pencil.

With the kneaded eraser, if your pencil marks are light, which they should be, it'll just take some very light rubbing to take off your pencil. If you're rubbing hard to erase, you're going to lose your pen marks, and you need to draw lighter :D

    Sorry for butting in :D

  • @cherrychan209 a lot of it depends on what kind of ink you use and how long you let it dry, as well as what eraser. ;]

having good quality ink helps, and like maryofclaire said the pencil marks need to be light enough to be erased easily :]

i know some artists also ink on a light table with the sketch underneath, so that you don't have to erase anything, but sometimes that gets a little annoying top do

  • thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bro are all these videos covered with these fucking words...?

  • is that normal paper?

  • @NViES

Professional comic book artists (DC, Marvel, etc) work on 11" x 17" Bristol board paper.

  • wow........great............

ac2ly, ryt now manga is the most popular comics style. .

but I think the american traditional comic illustration is the best......

    uhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmm...

  • finally, someone who actually CAN draw on this channel...

  • is funny she look like a hooker in front of a cave she does not look like a super hero

  • @PS3UP Your mother was a hooker in front of a cave...lol.

  • @therainydog Oh snap hahaa

  • @PS3UP I love cave hookers.theyre the best!

  • At the end of his life, the deadliest gunfighter of the Old West is given a choice: Hell or redemption. He chooses redemption and God's Archangel transports him to modern day Los Angeles to serve bloody, frontier justice on the worst dregs of society.

  • finally expert village actually got an expert for one of their drawing videos! lol

  • man can u help me out? i want to see were is the vid for comic book, ur chanel got everything anc i cant find one single comic book inside the chanel,... i suscribe but cant find what am looking for.....

maybe someone can help me pls..

  • how to your stir pro white it seems like im loosing some when i stir it and it drys so quick

  • your better than me so much i can do that but after photoshop has took it's turn

  • i fucked up and got some higgins pigment shit it's like too watery ...mad as fuck

  • nice way to do it is to sketch in a light blue, ink it, clearly showing what you inked or still have to.

Scan the image and delete the blues,

skips the erasing, what can lead to blur and spots on the ink.

Note, you can also copy the blue/ inked image for the blue is not copied with the linework.

and you can colour on copies and save the original.

  • what kind of ink and white out do you use....i wana go out and buy the same kind ur using

  • The 'white out' he's talking about is, I believe, something like Pro White, with a fine-tipped brush....it's great for covering up mistakes on the black ink, or for adding more transition effects

  • Comment removed

  • wat kind pen is that you dipped in that ink ?

  • it looks like a brush

  • Unbelievable! I think this is the first time i've watched an Expert Village video featuring a true expert! Well done.

  • lol, "surprised her from behind"

  • Comment removed

  • @Mcree114 nope, I´d say good larger part of the professional comic artists are doing inking traditional way with brush, which makes sense in my opinion, it is better done with traditionally, which I´d say will stay like that for long time, I rarely see one artist who does better job with tablet and photoshop than with paper, pencils and brushes.

Coloring in the other hand have been moving to digital work, photoshop does really good work on that.

  • i dont believe comic books are limited to the classic india ink thing like below we use what ever we have at hand, and i color with the fine tip sharpies imma bout to buy a new pack and i draw with a staples pencil nothin fancy

  • Is that woman suppose to Rihanna?

  • cool he inks it himself very well done manalot of talent

  • man, what's with all the negativity in these posts?

who cares — this video seems to be a few handy tips for people who don't know a whole lot about the inking process.

Mark Poulton seems to be an enthusiastic teacher/artist who's good at explaining his process... what's the problem?

  • @Perhapsy some people like to talk instead of doing....create havoc instead of progress ive learned more about inking from this video then a year of art class...mad respect for marks skills.....

  • Jim Lee is a pro. Who cares if he uses white out? His art speaks for itself.

  • they also draw with sharpies dumb ass, my teacher works for marvel and knows that they don't use fancy shit

  • ur fucking stereotyping, it's like saying that only pro golfers drink that tiger woods Gatorade, or that only professional basketball players wear air jordans

  • a little narrow-minded are we...

  • Artists use whatever the hell they want and whatever they are comfortable with and the publishers don't care, as long as they get their job done well and on time. Personally, I think that the white sharpie paint pens can be SO much more handy then a thing of white ink/whiteout and a brush when working at a certain level, but white I still have a use white ink/whiteout. To each their own.

  • @ nicotikibird:

The computer is great for some styles maybe, but if your way of drawing is more organic, analog inking is far faster and yields better results. i have a vid of me inking smoke. check it to see what i mean.

  • wow! a comic about sarah palin! on a serious note, i have used white gouache if pro white cannot be found in the local art supply store.

  • in your opinion is it better to ink on the computer with programs like illustratoror is it better to in by hand like you're doing?

  • No one can really answer that. For some, it might be easier and look better when done on the computer, others might prefer using pens and still others might stick with brushes and nibs. You just have to try everything out and get to know your strengths, weaknesses and build your own personal preferences. In the industry, no one is really going to care what you use (I've seen people ink with pencil crayons, sharpies and bic pens), just as long as you get the job done well and in a timely manner.

  • Actually the pigmentation in india ink is what makes the blacks scan so clear. Industry standard says use it for the bigger selling books. Indies can do whatever.

Also if you want to resell your art sharpies are a bad idea as they brown with age.

I worked on x-men and spiderman properties using microns which have a dark dark pigment and are waterproof. That was just incentive cards. If it were the comic definitely india ink.

  • Woooow!!!

  • very cool looks great
