  • Your set up shouldn't hum on the clean channel its probably your power. The power is polluted with the energy waves of the lights and other things your running on that circuit. Just buy a power scrubber it will help if you don't want to use the noise gate for the clean tones! :)

  • Nice chords

  • The hum that you were getting on the distortion sounds almost exactly like the one I'VE been getting. What did you set the threshold to?

  • @jimmyjazz82391 around 10 O'Clock on the threshold knob.

  • So what exactly does the "threshold" knob do?

  • @SidewalkSamba that's the volume level at which the elimination of noise starts kicking in. For instance, set the threshold to the max an it will kill all sound. To the min, it's like it's not even on at any level.

  • Helped a lot dude, thanks

  • I have the exact same guitar :D

  • Very usefull demo ; thanks

  • Nice playing man, good vid aswell

  • i've bought it ! but if the pedal is on .. my clean signal is disturbated... is too low ... someone can tell me why?

  • @SIMONEMESSINA if you set your threshold too high, it can decimate even the quieter notes you play clean.

  • is this a set in neck tele?

  • @IAMNOTAGOODCHILD it is a bolt on neck.

  • @Jahnli and is this a limited edition? i ask because its has a tremolo (?)

  • @IAMNOTAGOODCHILD Fender does make stock teles with bigsbys, but mine is an aftermarket bigsby put on after the purchase of a stock '52 Reissue Tele.

  • @Jahnli cool ....how long have you been playin?

  • @IAMNOTAGOODCHILD since '89.

  • @Jahnli cool!

  • Does anybody know why the guitar makes that popping noise when he touches the strings at 0:30 ? I kinda have the same problem and idk if it's the amp, the guitar ( Fender Strat Classic 70's MIM) the cable, or my electrical wiring in the house. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • @mavericknoone its the grounding of the socket

  • @IAMNOTAGOODCHILD well I asked an electrician about that and surprise surprise, my sockets aren't grounded

  • @mavericknoone this is the problem....you need a "supressor" for the sockets too

  • pues mola más con ruído

  • awesome! thanks pal!

  • I have this thing on all the time in my videos, you can't ever tell there's a noise gate on, sounds completely natural.

  • I think keeping the hum is good for your tone, as a whole. Not to say you should just let your stratocaster hum - out, but you could just hold the strings to ground the guitar and prevent buzzing when you don't want it.

  • how can you get so much noise with just a guitar straight into an amp?

  • @mandolinroad single coils with no grounding wire into an amp that probably needs a cap job plugged into a socket sharing a wire with an array of dimmer lights just about does it.

  • Looks like you tried hard not to be touching the strings when the unit was off to make sure the guitar was as noisy as it could and then you started playing the instant you touched the strings leaving no gap for us to hear that the guitar actually makes very little noise when you're holding the strings/bridge...which can be heard momentarily at 0:30. I see the point and I'm not saying it's a bad pedal either but I think the above makes the demo misleading. Nice playing btw.

  • @1Hyk when using noise suppressors that's what you do - or what I do anyhow. When you aren't playing is when you want the suppressor to kick in hard to kill the hum. When you are playing you really can't hear much other than what you're playing - if your hum is louder than your playing, it's a bigger issue than what a suppressor can handle, since a suppressor can't differentiate between played notes and hum as a "note." So yes, after playing i stop any noise louder than the ISP's threshold.

  • what is the difference between the rack mount and the pedal?

  • @TheMagnumGuitar not sure, never tried the rack.

  • @jahnli is it best to put this before your wah and other effects or at the end of the chain ? i play with an orange dual terror so no loop just strait in baby !!! and as u can imagine a row of 9 pedals gets a bit noisy so im flirting with the idea of one of these but dont fully understand the operation of them and its big money to buy before u get the low down if u catch my drift ..... cheers

  • @oasisroses since it has a buffer, it's best to put it after the wah and fuzz pedals, after that, put it anywhere you like in the chain.

  • @Jahnli so it wont affect any delays or trems or whatever ? cheers again

  • @oasisroses well if you put it after a delay or trem that has a trailing repeat or warble that goes below the noise threshold that you set for the ISP, the ISP will kill that noise - but that's up to where you set your sensitivity threshold.

  • @Jahnli ok. thanks again

  • Does this cut of your notes liek crazy?

  • @zerofreak22 if you crank it up it can definitely do that. But I prefer to dial it down to where it only kills the hum when I'm not playing.

  • Will be great for my bass set up, thanx

  • What were your settings?

  • @andy92811 I believe it's right around 10 O'Clock on the dial.

  • @Jahnli That's about were I have it. 9:30 is usually were it works best for me.

  • I thought, at first, you were going to play "Float On".

  • Funny how its a video demo-ing a noise reduction pedal, when the webcam mic itself is noisy ;)

  • Boss NS-2 or ISP Decimator?

YOU tell me what I should get

(include some reasoning for your answer too)

  • @AdamAffliction ISP, less tone suck.

  • @Jahnli very true! ISP all the way.

  • I can play monte montgomery better than you.

  • Thanks for this vid, bro!

  • Thank you so much for this video.

This is EXACTLY what I need. I use a Fender Princeton 650 (Very hissy amp even at low settings)amp and a guitar with a Charlie Christian pup in it...so I pick up everything little bit of noise when I play.

This pedal is exactly what I need to clean up my playing and make the other musicians happy also. They're always complaining about my hum/noise when the music is playing quieter.

    Dm

  • before the decimator you should have got sandals..

otherwise you will die eletrocuted =P

  • background emission is very strong when noise is on but I think a good one

  • It Does shorten your sustain by about 7-10 percent .......But for what you benifit in reduced humm & hiss when not playing its well worth it & a great tool for just about any guitarist , better yet Anyone who wants to illiminate any little noise or interference wether its vocals or Bass or guitar.

  • i love the sound of your amp

  • Telecaster? nice vid btw!

  • @WesMott1994 yes, a '52 Reissue (with an aftermarket Bigsby)

  • @Jahnli Nice!

  • Great video, man!

    Nice pedal and playing.

    Thanks.

  • Good. Thanks.

  • thanks for making the demo. I ordered mine and works great.

  • fwill it work with like really heavy distortioon and keep feedback out?????

  • @Cody12355 yes, that's actually how a large percentage of these are used.

  • yeah? sounds rly good man.

  • hey by the way, what's that jazzy little riff you played on the clean channel?

  • @longlivebone ah just a little riff i put together, it's the Am shape, to an Em shape, slide down two frets, slide back up, make the Em shape an Emajor7 shape, that's it!

  • does this pedal allow tube amps to opperate at higher power with less noise?

  • @cwinget2580 yes you can use it that way - if you have a high volume or high gain amp, this pedal can kill off the magnified hums and buzzes associated with that.

  • does this stop the excessive background hum of open unmuted strings.

  • @longlivebone yes, that's the most common use for this pedal in fact.

  • @Jahnli sweet...i just bought an ibanez rg120.. and the open strings love to get real noisey when not muted with your palm or fret hand.

  • @Jahnli thanks buddy

  • Am I going crazy or do I see a tremolo arm on your tele? How and where did you get this, and how much did it cost?

  • @Britton529 That's right, it's a Bigsby. Back then you had to screw it on and make new holes - not reversible. These days they have something called a Vibramate, a plate that lets you reverse a Bigsby mod. Google it for details, very cool item.

  • @Jahnli Thanks.

  • hey Jahnli.., is your guitar is not properly shielded well????

i hope this pedal kills all kinds of buzz!!! of my guitar :(

  • @xXxHawkkinsxXx the tele wasn't grounded right, so yes the ISP will even eliminate a ground hum.

  • @Jahnli wow...!! i'm gonna buy this pedal!!!! thank you!

  • I think I don't need that with headphones...

  • i love this pedal... but i lived in fucking philippines...

and i dont know where should i buy it.. T_T

    want it badly... FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :((

    CRYING OUT LOUD...

    COL

  • will this reduce feedback??

  • It can, unless you don't want it to, depending on what level you set it at.

  • Okay, so I just got a new half stack and it gives of a really high pitched squeal when I turn the gain past 7. Is this the right pedal I'm looking for to get rid of that annoying sound?

  • @ironsabbath18 This pedal can noise gate to a certain point but if that squeal is as high or higher than the signal you want to put out, you'll never get rid of that squeal past 7 when you're playing. Instead of masking the problem, time to take the amp to the shop!

  • Ahhh no!!!!!!! haha, thank you! I just got the amp today too, but from what I have read it might be due to pickups or something

  • @ironsabbath18 Oh you mean like the squeal from pickup feedback? Short of potting your pickups the ISP can certainly help with feedback issues.

  • So the ISP would be good for this? haha, I heard if I lower my PUPs it will help somewhat?

  • thats some funky fresh shit man on the cleans

  • You are one cool man ! You win the YT award for patience. I read all these post and you answer all these guys questions and a lot of them the same questions over and over, you must be one cool Dude.Your guitar sounds

great ! Now I want to ask you , will this pedal affect my tone ? lol ! just kidding , great

demo ! Thanks for the post.

  • What kind of adaptor does it use?? can it be powered with the daisy chain for boss pedals? How much did it cost you ?? this is the first time I see this pedal in action and I've heard it beats de ns-1 from boss

  • @spanishnavax, about $135, and it uses 9V, same adaptor as a typical boss so no problem being on a chain or pedal power 2.

  • Have no questions, just a remark. The more I read here under, the more i respect you. What a patience you show here to answer those million questions. Quit exceptional. Goes to my favorites as a sample of politeness.

  • Thanks for your video!! I just saw a youtube video of the boss noise gate versus the ISP ...Well the ISP won out ... I realy need to get the ISP Decimator ... My question is this ... Do you plug into the ISP as the 1st pedal in your line of effects, Or last?? Also, Can it be ordered thru Musicians Friend catolog???

  • It actually doesn't matter where in the chain you place it - I do think MF carries it.

  • I should always be the last in your chain, but it's up to you to use FX loop or out front.

  • seems like you just have constant feedback... dunno if its just cause its a bad amp or the volume level.,,, i only get feed back like that if the amp is really loud for band stuff... do you think this noise gate will work for that too?

  • It sure will!

  • yes, it doesn't matter if it's onboard amp distortion after the ISP, or preamp distortion made by a pedal before the ISP - if there's noise, the ISP will decimate it. however, if you have zero signal from the guitar, and your amp is wailing away, that's a bigger issue than a pedal can handle - time to do some maintenance on your amp!

  • can this get rid of feedback?

  • Yes, check out the ISP vid with the Fuzz Probe - without an ISP that thing would be howling with feedback nonstop.

  • Dude, I'm no expert, but i think there is a grounding issue or something going on with your wiring.

  • yep, ended up being a bad ground in my tele. which shows that the ISP can kill off a bad ground buzz, heh!

  • well thats great you got that all figured out. And I guess its kinda cool to know my educated guess was correct. Really does show how well this pedal works!

  • Comment removed

  • could i permanently turn on the noise reduction even if i'm using other gadgets? please reply..

  • Yes you can leave the ISP on full time and it will affect your whole chain.

  • thank you sir.. what brand of noise reduction should i buy?

  • I hear the newer ISP decimator g string is nice

  • You're lucky that you had a grounding problem for the demo, that just helps show what it can do.

  • turned out the amp needed a cap job and new tubes, so hum was coming from the amp side as well. hum all over that signal chain!

  • So it can help with a bad grounding situation too?

I need it for the transient noise from my amp and pedal chain from high volume levels, does it help with that too?

  • yes and yes.

  • Could you please make a video with letting notes decay fully? I missed that cause you always muted the strings before the notes actually ended ringing by themselves.

Thank you very much for posting it!

  • That's a habit I had when I played with hum, where I usually grounded the strings using my hands before hum gets louder than the decaying signal. But in the demo I actually take off my hands for a "look ma no hands, no hum" moment after playing. You can set the sensitivity level to cut off a dying signal, or pretty much just let the thing ring out forever, like in the distortion part of the demo - either way, when there's no signal, there's no hum, which is key.

  • I have a question that aybe you can answer man. Whenever I play through my single coils on my Strat it gives this awful buzzing and it's unbearable with distortion. If I hit the distortion it gives instant feedabck, I was thinking about getting a nois gate but I figured that would only hide the real problm. It's different form the regular 60 cycle hum it's a full on buzzing sound, and it's only on the single coils.Any help would be appreciated.

  • Could be that your guitar is not properly grounded, make certain the grounding wire is properly connected to the trem. Otherwise, you could have very microphonic pickups that squeal. Problems like that won't be solved by simple shielding.

  • Thanks man. I'll check it out.

  • I thought it might be grounding issue. I'll see. Thanks for the help.

  • These pedals are just hype!!If you play high gain rock, and want to play a quiet passage in the middle of a song, roll back the volume, the pedal takes your signal and makes it inaudible..The only thing it decimates is you're signal and you're wallet..trust me and try it for yourself before you buy it...al

  • If you set the threshold to block out everything but a high gain signal like a metal staccato passage, then when you play quieter that quiet signal will stil be blocked (as well as the hum). Using it that way is more like a noise gate than a hum remover - if you set the gate high, only the high gain goes through. Set it low to just kill the hum, and your guitar's signal will be just fine.

  • what kind of Tele is that? the 52 reissue? why did you pick that tele?

  • Yep a '52 Tele RI with stock pickups. I picked it because it already had a bigsby on it from a previous owner, and I couldn't believe the amount of spank it still had.

  • did you try out the american deluxe as well?

  • Yes but the '52 had a bigger neck, which I liked.

  • I heard the '52 gets grimy when your hand sweats. Have you had this problem?

Does this Noise Decimator suck your tone at all? Have you tried the MXR smartgate or other noise reduction pedals? Thanks

  • Well it has a nitro finish, so yes it'll get sticky if you really heat that thing up with your sweaty palm, versus a poly finish that you can just wipe off. Never noticed a tone suck with the ISP at all. Tried a Boss one, thought I heard tone suck there.

  • i like the hum. it gives it a vintage tone.

  • It Does cut off the very tail end of your sustain & for s split second it gets that fading drizzly low battery kind of sound, but is quikly gone. To say this is a perfect Noise gate...........Not! To say this is a great noise gate, YES ....Its been hyped up a Lot,so I was Not THAT impressed with it.......but its good, Plan on keeping Mine permenently because it Cleans up my background hiss & noise , I sacrifice a split second of sustain but the Clean-ness ya get is worth every penny.

  • Thanks for making a video on this! I'm playing on a high gain tube amp, and another solid state amp. I'll be playing metal with the gain all the way up, is this going to work for it? I tried the boss noise gate, and it took out the feedback and hiss, but it made my tone sound like garbage. The threshold might be almost all the way up if not all the way up. Will it suck out my tone like the Boss? Thanks!

  • if you want just the hiss and feedback gone you don't have to turn it all the way up - if you do, even the input signal will get chopped off (which makes for good staccato metal riffing). i didn't notice any tone suck.

  • Yeah I'm just looking for the feedback to be reduced, the hiss would be nice too. I usually have the amp all the way up, so the hiss is louder than the guitar :p. Thanks!

  • So when its on, do you still get the same sustain? or does it cut the time that notes are held?

  • You can dial the decimation level low so the signal's sustain comes through, yes. This clip actually has it on that low threshold, as you can see by how I hold it long on the distortion channel. But yes it can also be set high so it will clip the main signal too, like for heavy metal riffs.

  • Oh ok cool, thank you.

  • that's awesome! how much did you get that for and where?

  • These days you can even get it for $130 from Musician's Friend online.

  • thanks!

  • what about Chunky Chops like Old Metallica stuff where theres some chunka-chunka type rythems , with lots of ditsortion.........Can it filter the hiss yet let the full Chunka -chunka come thru?

  • that's actually what it's best at, and it can even gate sharply to help keep those chops tight.

  • Great demo. I'm going to try one out today. Thanks for the info.

  • so does this stop the noise tht you get when holding the strings and then letting them go lightly

  • Yes it does - that slight sympathetic ringing or overtone feedback will be gone, as will stronger howling and so forth.

  • Hi nice vid, in which level do you think works better?

  • it actually doesn't matter if the signal is clean or distorted, as the ISP works on the hum at both levels. You can just hear the hum better when i upped the gain in the distortion channel.

  • ~Thats great...does it suck any tone and is it true by-pass...??

  • To my ears it doesn't suck tone much if at all, and I do believe it's buffered, but the levels don't get all wonky like a bad buffer would.

  • i just got a new one and i was shocked when it said made in china ! are these all made in china or just mine cause it's brand new ! i thought they were made in the u.s.a ! please help!awesome demo by the way !

  • Yessir made in China for all of them.

  • so this pedal basically just stops the buzzing from the amp?

  • Or in my case, the single coil hum from the guitar paired with an amp that probably needs a capacitor change.

  • and the howling u get from amps at high volumes

  • yep that feedback is gone.

  • forgot to tell u that i have the "g" model so there's about 4 inputs/outputs so idk what combo to use

  • Ah sorry this is the non-G version, not sure about the G!

  • damn. thanks anyway man

  • i just bought this and i cant seem to get it to work properly. i have the exact same setup as you but the pedal completely sucks the sound away even when the dials all the way to the left. what did u use for input/output?

  • The normal ISP just has an input and output jack. guitar to input to output to amp, and the sensitivity knob controls how much decimation goes on. Not really sure about the G version, never owned it.

  • whats the chords you played with the clean effect!? that sounded awsome :)

  • Barre an Am type chord, then an Em type, slide that Em barre down two frets, slide back up 2, and end on that Am type again!

  • nice demo =) thx

its stupid, but I have to ask it

if i use a effect pedal, do i have to put like

    amp>ISP>effect>guitar

    or

    amp>effect>ISP>guitar

    ?

  • between your pedals and the amp, but your mileage may vary of course!

  • thx!

  • Fantastic demo. Thank you so much for making it. You got a great tone.

  • I bought one..it lasted 20 mins in a rehearsal...contacted isp.and the designer told me to send it from the uk to the states at my expense for repair!!!!!!!..i,m a musician with 35 yrs experience...and what I did hear of this stomp box was not pleasant...if your a bedroom player,by all means waste your money..however...if you need a robust piece of kit to gig with...that doesnt suck tone...buy the boss ns2...it wont let you down...

  • I suppose a good working ISP is better than NS-2, and doesn't cut tone, at least not as much as NS-2. The customer support seems bad though.

If you use 4 or more pedals, is this thing needed? let's say we have a wah, a fuzz/sustain, compressor and an overdrive on the pedal board, would that lead to the purchase of such device?

  • If hum is there, it'll be there regardless of the amount of pedals you use, so yes it's helpful with multiple pedals in the chain too.

  • Hey what are you playing on the clean parts?

  • Just a Am-Em type progression, nothing in particular!

  • Why does you're guitar have sounds like this :S

  • Single coil pickups plus dimmer lights equal bad hum.

  • OK, I'm thinking of getting a noise suppressor. I'm stuck on either Boss Ns-2 or this pedal. I want Boss because it is good quality and has more features and is cheaper, but I hear this pedal is better as far as tone goes. Which should I get?
