  • Man Junctioning is a funny thing, as early as now by putting the Curagas into HP-J you can get over 2000 HP.

  • HCBailly are u a comedian?, coz u damn funny!

  • Now I'm gonna put Seifer in his little invincible corner and make you go "BOO HOO"!

(Siefer is to me what Malboro is to you. :P I noob that card for my first move all the time.)

  • He has quistis's card he probably ... im not gonna finish that

  • hey ..does the cards game affect the main game ??

cause I don't want to learn it lol

  • @RoyalRose122 the card game doesnt change any story line what so ever, you can get added dialogue with the a certain card quest later. (I know my answer is 2 months late but who knows who it will help)

  • I used the Abyss Worm card to refine into a windmill which gives 20 tornados - HUUUUGE strength junction!!! My Squall is at Lvl 14 and strength is at 80 :)

  • I liked triple triad myself as well although it did make me rage when the AI would pull out all the combo, same and plus moves......

  • Mwahahahaha! I can't believe the awesome power you can get early on in this game. Thank you sooooo much HCBailly! 2700 HP that is sick! I can only imaging what crazy power you will be doing later on in this LP. YEAH!

  • I abused Degenerator the first time I played this game XD It makes the game easier than it already is. Especially later on on the Islands Closest to Heaven and Hell. Degenerate some big monster, lots of exp and ap = levels. So yeah... That move is OP. SUPER OP.

  • OH ma GOD! I bow down to you man! i thought i broke the goddamn system when i played this game with 100 curaga hp junction at lvl 10 but i never knew you could get str + 60% THIS early. I thank you cause now i am DEFINATELY replaying this game again!

  • Oh god Selphie's a transvestite in her picture!

  • Something I always found funny. Quezacoatl = The Aztec God of Corn.

  • @Crosswalker you could not be more wrong lol.

  • @Crosswalker No, Quezacoatl != The Aztec God of Corn. Quetzalcoatl was allegedly a god who gave people many, many things, corn just happening to be one of them.

Can't get enough of your videos, HC! I hope you continue to make these for as long as you value the time put into them.

  • LOL 4:14 Quistis learned Bad Breath

  • You can also get the Quistis card in the classroom by playing against the fans. I didn’t even know that it was possible to go up to the back of the cafeteria.

  • after getting the card mod I just started hammering the card game to get every one I could. Once I had siren I had death magic on my status attack for most enemies and pain for all of the bosses. It was awesome. I forgot to say that I used siren's status mod for the death and pain

  • after getting the card mod I just started hammering the card game to get every one I could. Once I had siren I had death magic on my status attack for most enemies and pain for all of the bosses. It was awesome.

  • HCBailly you are the main reason why i got FF8 on my psp because your LPs are great and its a quite alright game in my opinion

  • Bloody Hell, the Queen of Cards ALWAYS chooses Galbadia.

  • I got a zell card off ma Dincht what does the A mean :S afraid of losing the card :L

  • @TangoDelight I believe it means it's basicially invincible on that side.

  • @TangoDelight A means Ace so is higher than 9.

  • @Xyrgra Awright cheers =]

  • i dont understand any of this BUT IT SOUNDS SO COOL

  • 0:08 - 0:34 XD

  • "Squall could use a few screws." ROFL, that was just hilarious, whether it was intentional or not.

I hate refining the rare cards, no matter how useful they are...

  • Comment removed

  • you use the EXACT same hand i do

  • To anyone who would actually prefer Tetra Master over TT, you are horribly misguided. Triple Triad is at least a good way of improving the rate of collecting many items and raising character stats.

  • you talk funny ^.^

  • as much as i like ff8, i actually spent more than 10x the amount of time just playing triple triad than the actual ff8 game itself.. it took me 20+ hours just to complete disc 1 because of it..

  • Degenerator is an incredibly powerful and it's abusive to have it this early in the game XD I purposely didn't teach Quistis that move until Disc 3 because I was not about to blow through the game Degenerating monsters left and right

  • @NachanDesu Reminds me of Dark Spark from Final Fantasy V. That was a majorly powerful Blue Magic spell...Same with Death Claw.

  • it took you 4 minutes to set up ^_^

  • is it okay for Squall to be level 20 by the time I go to Timber on the train? I know it makes it harder to get the Lion Heart later..

  • @Maverick6429 we are only 17 episodes into the game....calm down

  • whats better is when you have learned time magic refine is refine diablos card into 100 black holes, then use time magic refine on the black holes to get 30 demis per black hole, puts your strength up way better than curaga which you could be using for health.

  • Maybe it's just the way HC is going about this Let's Play, but it seems like there is almost no story to this game. It's more about collecting stuff and playing cards. What is going on right now anyway? I have no idea what motivates these characters.

  • @Maverick6429 Money. Just like real life.

  • @Maverick6429 its slow to get started but there is plot. not as good as FF7 but still great plot

  • i wish i had a copy of this game but i dont have a credit card for ebay and i cant make a bootleg because i only have 1 blank cd. :(

  • DUDE str+60% so early? SWEET!

  • I really don't like refining my rare cards, I like collecting them and don't think it's needed until late game but nice going with the hyper wrists.

  • OMG! The Perfect Simpsons reference! GENIUS! XD

  • I want to get the Diff, or All rule, but the Queen of Cards is being a dick. >_>

    (Before becoming SeeD)

  • i dont think anyone comments on how freaking hilarious this guy is geeez you know how to make fun of these games i love it lmao!!

  • how where you able to get all the cards ?

  • hello mate ,i got 2 questions 1. i would like to know who's the other GF the white girl GF and where do u get it

    2. How do u get character cards i still didn't found that out please help me

  • I have a really hard time refining tany cards everytime i'm playing through this game. I guess i'm just to much of an aspie so i really have problems "destroying" my beautiful collection of cards.

  • you make the card game so easy...

    I can't win once

  • HCBailly plz help iam a fan to youre vids but iam at the part where u have to find the white seed ship i talk to the quenn and every thing else i checked people vids and stuff they show me to go there but its not there i nedd help thanx

  • M only issue with Triple-Triad is I lost Ifrit to some one and saved after so I lost him and I have been losing ever since and having to restart my playstation over and over xD

  • I will now start on the SeeD exam.

  • I really dont get how to play cards..But I need to learn becauz I need a couple of holy wars.....Um can anyone help me????

  • hc when i was young i thougt highschool wa like ff8's school and and my brother was in highschool back when this came out i thought hes was doing stuff like squall and i wanted to be in highschool now i am in highschool and it blows haha

  • Looking at the system of ff8, I don't wanna play it but it's interesting watching HCBailly's classic commentary as I watch this LP.

  • @missingno777 I ADMIT THE system isnt the best in ff8 but i think the storyline make up for that because im replaying it right now and u know the things u need to get stronger is pretty much gay u probably be using your summon beast most of the time

  • Curagas are SSSOOO broken!!!

  • HCBailly, is it alright if I lose the MiniMog to the Queen of Cards with the trading rules being One (she is still heading to Dollet)?

  • @maddester Yeah, that's fine.

  • @HCBailly red bat card INSANELY good lol. card mod, refine, junction 100 drains to status J and your INVINCIBLE

  • That's bad.. XD Haha

  • "Quistis learned Bad Breath" LOL

Now students will get away from her because of her breath. LOL

  • How the F!!! did you get quistis off of that guy i thought you get her off of the girl in the class

  • Wow, this game has more game-breaking stuff than Final Fantasy 6. I'm impressed. :P

  • @GDGaming What game breaking stuff in ff6? vanish doom trick?

  • @piromaniac9999 Or like the equipment that lets you attack eight times in a row.

  • @GDGaming Ahh yeah.

There are really strong enemies in ff6 which can insta gib you pretty easily.

1:the real zegfried has an attack that does 6000-7000 dmg instantly to you in the arena.

This can practically kill you if you aren't careful.

2:the brachiosaurous are pretty mean and cast a assortment of spells.

But the game generally isn't hard, but thats ok i guess since it has other stuff.

I haven't beaten ff8 out of boredom really, and i'm replaying it now getting every card.

  • LOL! One of my favorite Episodes of Simpsons of all times! XD

    Genius HC! Genius!

    And that's bad... Really bad!

    Ok... Can I go now?

  • simpsons refrence at the biginging funny

  • hey HC Bailly can you use degenerator on Tonberries?

  • @sprmax87 Degenerator does not work on toberries, which sucks when trying for the GF...

  • Can I go now?

  • HCBailly, is it possible to win back rare cards that you lose to the Queen of Cards (or anyone you lost the card to) by simply playing her at any location in the world?

  • @vlad48329reborn For the Queen of Cards, that is definitely so, and part of the point of her sidequest. For others, I think you can win back your rare card from the person you lost it to, but there are a couple rare exceptions.

  • alright, thanks for the info.

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!

I never knew how to get those items for upgrading. IM FAIL.

  • you didn't say FF8 with as much charisma as usual =P

  • The Card Games later in a far-far away area are so hard because they play with every Rule active >_> I had to reset 7 times to get these 2 rare Cards there. I like the Card Game, but the better the enemy and the more Rules are active, the harder it gets of course. And they sometimes play with so much skill that it isn't fun anymore to play with them. Still, I like the Triple Triad. It's easy to understand and fun to play.

  • That's bad / that's good = epic.

Creeps, bleeps, sweeps... that's not all he's lost.

Speaking of losing, you probably wouldn't think to lose a certain card to gain something later. Silly game logic.

  • I usually junction Curaga to HP as soon as I get Life magic refine, but that makes the game obscenely easy early on. Better yet, get Abyss Worm cards and refine them into Windmills and refine them into Tornados and junction to HP. I like how you aren't doing either of those. It adds some semblance of challenge.

  • i defiantly agree that the card game was actually one of the few really good things about this game, mostly due to how bad the next games card game game is.

  • It was a nice ''Simpsons Halloween'' reference, at the beginning ;)

...This card collection/refining system is an interesting feature in that game, maybe more for those that like to take their game slowly...

  • Yeah the Card Mod Ability...that´s the best thing to get Items really fast and early in the Game. For the Weapon Modifications for example. That´s great!

  • Triple Triad was fun for me when FF8 was the newest game out, but once FF9 was released and had Tetra Master, Triple Triad just became incredibly boring to me.

  • 0:09 - 0:34

That, alone, made my day. xD

  • You're doing good, but I think getting that strong this early in the game kinda removes a lot of the challenge, IMHO.

  • @BygPhattyPlus FF8 is obscenely easy, regardless. In order to make the game remotely challenging, I would probably have to neuter the junction system, which would be equally pointless to me.

  • @HCBailly The only thing I ever really used the system for was to nullify some status ailments that would make some battles impossible... Still, yeah, it is easy, unfortunately. I can't wait for you to do FF9, since that one was MUCH harder in my opinion!

  • @HCBailly If you do this sort of thing trying to get all-powerful from the very start, then yes the game is easy. But if you play through it normally and only use the extras as they come to you (ex: not spending hours of time trying to become as strong as the average level 25 before you hit level 15) it can be quite challenging.

  • Is that a Simpsons or a Gremlins or a Simpsons on Gremlins reference.

Either way, funnnnnny, you made me laughhhh.

  • Freaking awesome start to this episode HC! The randomness plus humor makes for a great laugh. (or like 20 in my case.)

  • simpsons reference ftw!!

  • you can get all the rare cards you missed and modded at the end anyway you can also get all the rare cards from the queen of cards at the end you dont have to do the quest

  • I could never muster the patience for the Queen of Card's sidequest. I just took the more...direct approach, later. (trying to be discrete here).

  • so i got bored today was on wikipedia, btw to anyone this has nothing to do with the current point but the game in general. this game apparently cause a 16 year old mexican kid to kill his mom, dad, and sister with a katana because he was on an avenging mission as Squall. i thought that was rediculous and fyi it had documentation on it.

  • I loved the junctioning system, one of the best systems in a final fantasy game.

  • I gather you're going to "bend the rules" of the card game as you progress throughout the adventure?

Yeah, I've always had to reset often because she kept wanting to go to Galbadia rather than Dollet.

  • Holy bat shit, HC, I am seriously impressed. You're not even five hours into the game and you're already decimating the physics. This is making me wanna pick this game back up and play it to its fullest potential.

  • lol simpsons at the beginning

  • GOD DAMMIT, I forgot where it came the reference you made at the beginning! Pretty funny one!

  • I could never card mod the rare cards. I just couldn't will myself to do it, especially the character ones.

  • good job HCBailly, I'm enjoying this LP. thank you for uploading

  • I'm trying to play along with you HC, but I think now is the time I'm going to fall behind. I can not get that stupid Card Queen to go to Dollet. I try over and over and over. I've probably lost to her over 20 times today. So....I quit. At least for today.

  • @LibertarianismLives Standard rule of RPGs. If you're trying to farm a rare item or get something to happen by random chance, you will spend hours trying to do it. Only to give up for the day, then get it to work within 5 minutes of the next time playing it.

  • @HCBailly

    Ha! Too True.

  • @HCBailly In other words, if you want something rare to happen, you've gotta pretend you don't want it to happen.

  • @LibertarianismLives If you play on an emulator, you might want to save at the nearest save point, hard reset, and load the save file. If you just load state, the random number generator might not reset (depending on the emulator I guess), so it will give you the same result over and over again.

  • @HydroGlobus I got a serious emulator problem, either i see the menu of commands which slows down the game and music,or i don't see em and speed is normal.

I'm trying to figure out how to fix it.

  • Hi HC! This playthrough's got me all nostalgic since it's been over five years since I last played FF8. Are there any walkthroughs or guides you might recommend that you might be using also? In my excitement I've already jumped ahead of your playthrough, just wondering if there's anything you can think of! Thanks :)

  • @Palmer222 The Speed FAQ on GameFAQs is useful for breezing through the game with minimal drawing. Any walkthrough could probably give you good enough directions.

  • @HCBailly Thanks! I'll take a look, I had some trouble getting to terms with the mechanics of this game before, so should definitely be a huge help.

  • Things are really winding up now. Can't wait for #18.

  • Best beginning of an episode. ;)

  • so no disc 1 lionheart? hehe

  • I agree Triple Triad is my favorite of all the FF minigames for me. When I saw were the card games were in 9 I was, like sweet, but then I tried it and I still don't get it to this day.

  • HC, try putting a card in the middle especially if you move first, I like to put a well rounded card, like zell or iron giant but it doesnt really matter, and it doesn't really matter if you lose it right away. You seem to like to place your cards so that they are not taken over, but just try placing a card in the middle, then you can very easily dominate the match with the cards your typically play in the corners. Just try it and see if you like it.

  • So if you could list your favorite FF games in order of 1 to 9 Mr. HC, how would you list it?

  • Loved the spaceballs reference ;)

  • HHHHHHHHHHCCCCCCCCCCC! Man! I hate it when you leave it off like that. But I love it so keep doing it. I mean I was looking forward to meeting those two guys in the cafeteria in the last vid and you left me with enthusiam in meeting them, next you went like, nope, not today. But keep doing that. Your videos are so fun that I go crazy waiting for next days episode. Got sad kitty face when you got sicky. Hope you are feeling better.

  • Ah the joys of curaga junctioning to HP, I love doing that just to buff myself up to unreal proportions.

  • haha awesome simpsons reference n awesome vid!

  • Why can't the lamp come with free Frogurt instead?

Ahhh, HCBaily, your references get better every day. That said, keep up the good work!

  • Using save states while playing Triple Triad is a 'but thou must' situation in this game.

  • Wendigos actually carry Steel Pipes when they appear lated in the game. That's probably why you got them mixed up.

  • i never changed my rare cards into items...maybe i should

  • degenerator rules! it is so helpful for grinding and getting good items.

  • The abusiveness of early-game junctioning with draw-grinding is the biggest problem with FF8. Love the game, but HATE the Draw system.

  • lolol @ simpsons reference

  • i normaly juction the best spells to hp in this game i dont bother with strength boosts im a high hp nut i guess you could call me XD

  • Happy easter to everyone :)

  • I really admire your dedication to this LP. I remember playing this and skipping as many of the card battles and upgrades as I could haha.

  • Heh, I just figured out about that tent curaga thing last night on my game.

  • Hey HC do you think you would do FF 9 and up lp's

  • What sucks is when the Queen of Cards uses those terrible rules like plus and combo. After those rules spread i pretty much could not win a game.

  • Very nice, HC, your expertise at this game is really making this very enjoyable. I'm too perfectionist to make it work myself, but you manage a good blend between abusing the game mechanics without getting totally ridiculous. I tried to watch Necro's LP of this a while ago, but he likes the game too much and understands it too little, where your opinion on it is closer to my own (I think). Looking forward to the next parts!

  • It wasn't untill the end of the game I started using card mod properly and refined the character cards (or any of the better ones), because I saw them as rare collectables and wished to keep them .

    Ain't me smart? :B

  • HC I would go shit a brick if I refine rare cards.

  • i think you get 3 or 5 AP for fighting crabs on the coast right outside the garden

  • @ScruffyPirateKid 6AP for two Festlwhatever-F. That's the "basic" first grind spot.

  • HCBailly...

The Triple Traid game is awesome.I remember when I was 8 I was helping my brother to play it when he was playing this game(i thinks that was 6th time). It was verry funny to me....(you can get use to same, plus, same wall ruleXD)...but when I see Terra Master(FF9 card game I dont remember is this right name)I was like WTF!!

  • Hey HC, quick question: Where does FF8 rank in your list of greatest Final Fantasy's? I know the junction system really turned off some people, but for me the cast of charaters, story and world were amazing.

  • @CBarzilla I think FF8 is a really fun game, better than most of what's out there. That said, as an FF game, I like FF1&3 better.

  • @HCBailly Have you tried FF 13 yet? Most people say it is not a FF, but there is a reason for what the director did what he did. Plus if you look at every since thing peolpe talk about it, it compares very easily to other Final Fantasies. If you haven't tried it, I suggest you do, it was awesome for me.

  • @CBarzilla he said its his least favorite game in the serise in episode 00

  • "Nothing I care about" WAT!? That's Mesmerize who gives you a Mesmerize Blade who in turn gives you Regen.

Which means 3000+ hp at this point of the game. Even more than Curaga, I think.

Oh, using the Card Queen to get rid of [annoying Dollet rule]. That's pretty clever.

  • @shinrenx Tents are far more easily procured than Mesmerize cards. Not to mention, the increase in HP is ridiculous either way. By the time I care about the difference, Regen will be easily drawable, which is less time-consuming than getting 15 Mesmerize cards.

  • @HCBailly True enough, and I definitely wouldn't grind just for those, but if you like to play (read: fill up every non-boss card slot before moving on), prioritizing Mesmerize for 4-8 isn't that hard.

Just checked, and turns out I was wrong in thinking you could grab some other cards easily for Regens. Yeah, Curagas are far easier. Still, 5 Mesmerize cards means that Zell would actively limit break around 1000hp.

Now that's what I call card advantage.

  • Degenerator breaks the game and is really useful

  • I hate when games make you lose to progress

  • I just got up to the part where I'm about to take on Diablo...I think I'm gonna mess around and maybe try to get end game weapons while I wait for you to get past the next part since I'm only moving on after you go pass a part...well, I'm gonna get what I can for end game weapons...Maybe, I'll just keep playing the card game, I'm really getting into it, it's fun...

  • @jscheive Nice Space Balls reference...

I've lost the Bleeps, the Sweeps, and the Creeps...

  • Awesome intro :D

  • Um... in the beginning was that a poor reference to pokemon 2000, at the end with Team Rocket?...... DONT LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT, I WAS YOUNG

  • Holy crap, I had no idea you could do that with the Zell card. Fantasmagoric!

  • I can't believe how the developers over looked the overpowering in this game.

  • @CelesChere694

    True.

You can actually overpower the game by NOT getting experience points.

  • @CelesChere694 This game was highly experimental. It's failures (which, stat exploitation possibilities are awesome, to me) are just a step in Final Fantasy's evolution.

Honestly, I think that it was just a matter faith the the player wouldn't discover it too quickly. In fact, it may have been intentional to let the player discover these things in their first play-through, then use them to their advantage in the next one. (should they choose)

  • Oh, HC, Do you think you think you will ever LP any of the Breath of Fire series?

  • @LogicalMadness I think he said he wouldn't...I think in one episode in another LP he said he wouldn't...
