She is overlooking the most fundamental purpose of marriage: raising children. Regardless of what she thinks about weddings and marriage and how that affects a relationship, little humans are supposed to have two bigger humans -- one a man, one a woman -- raise them till they themselves are big humans. If those two bigger humans are splitting up and meeting other people, it's damaging to the child. I know it doesn't always work out ideally, but please, let's at least recognize what the ideal is.
