  • We are sinnging that song in my choir school, i have test of this song! I love this, i wish my choir could sing it like this! :)

  • We are singing this in chior Im so excited :D

  • We did this song at my school last year. Representin' Alto Two! Hehehe. This song turned me on to singing super low notes. Fantastic.

  • Shoutout to the soprano! She did it for my soul!

  • Heck yeah! That was awesome! How am I going to live up to that astounding Soprano 1? we get to sing that this semester, and this will be a dusey! ^_^ This is a wonderful upload! *claps for you*

  • Bass for the win

  • Soprano High Note D6(flat) D7(flat)

The Highest Note The Sopranos Sing, Is There 2nd High D. The 2nd D Above Treble Clef. An Entire Octave From Soprano High D.

    That Should Be Enough

  • This gave me chills!!

  • So pure......

  • absolutely breathtaking

  • GOOSEBUMPS !

  • What Note Does That One Soprano Start On And End On I'm Thiniking A-D

  • @dztillman I believe you're right, I know that the highest note in the song is a D6

  • @dztillman

It's been a while, but I thought it was a b flat.... I could be wrong, though. O_o

  • I wish I could find a clearer version of this on YouTube, but I can't... Listened to this in my jazz class and it's absolutely amazing. Gave me goosebumps!

  • @peneraserlove its hard to find a cleaner version cleaner than the Moses Hogan Chorale themselves lol...trust me I have tried myself

  • So Crisp, So clean, Tremendous job. Incredibly moving.

  • we sang this in choir in high school. so many awesome memories attached to it. now singing it again in an adult community choir - so much fun. i love this piece!

  • 18 people are high schoolers whose choirs are singing this and they think their version is better. and they're so. SO. wrong.

  • This is my favorite piece that I have ever done in 7 years of singing with various choirs. It's so much fun to sing and so powerful.

  • this is awesome and a beautiful song

  • 18 people need elijah's rock to go upside their head so they can see that this is CHORAL GENIUS !

  • @keithnewton21 Maybe they fell head first on "elijah's rock" and that is the reason for their pitiful unmusical opinion.

  • I remember having to singing this in middle school, as much as i hated this its engraved in my head now lol i kept having a dream with this song in it lol

  • @HenryClearwater keep dreaming your beautiful dreams!!

  • OHHH EMM GEEEEE!!!!! That was the best recording of this song i have ever heard. When the tenors sing "halelujah lord!".....best part of the song. Nice job guys. It is so obvious that every single one of you gave it your all. I loved it. Thank you XD

  • Our school chorale wants to sing this piece. We're choosing between Elijah Rock and Battle of Jericho. Which is better of the two?

  • @Mrbookworm14 That isn't really a fair question, as they are two different pieces of music. It all depends on what type of piece you want to sing. If you want an uptune, pick Battle of Jericho. If you want a song more about intonation and tonality, pick this song.

  • my chamber choir in school sung this at the JFK library and it was sick, not as good as this tho lol

  • please post Moses Hogan Chorale single battle of jerrico

  • Phenomenal!

  • I had the pleasure of singing with Moses Hogan in Los Angles in the early 2000's and didn't learn of his passing until years later. It was a wonderful experience that I'll always treasure!

  • AMAZING!!!

  • AMAZING !!!

  • I absolutely LOOOOVEE this song!!! Thank you Moses Hogan for bringing us such beautiful music! This gets my spirit going, no lie!!!

  • That 2nd alto part is fierce!!! IF I COULD I SURELY WUD.......STAND ON TEH ROCL WHERE MOSES STOOD...GET EM GIRLS!!!!!! LOVED BEING AN ALTO BECAUSE OF THIS SONG!!!

  • That 2nd alto part is fierce!!! IF I COULD I SURELY WUD.......STAND ON TEH ROCL WHERE MOSES STOOD...GET EM GIRLS!!!!!!

  • u guys sang this perfectly, so much feeling and soul absolutely fantastic!!

  • I love hits song so much! I have the soprano solo and the high D :) I absolutely love singing it!

  • WE DID THIS SONG AND KILLED

  • Brings one to tears!!!

  • @Gary2837 agreed! that high note at 2:53 was so amazing...very overpowering, in a good way.

  • i like dis song

  • This is hands down the best choir I've ever heard sing this song and I was in a choir that sang it as well. So amazing and inspiring! You guys were magnificent!

  • AMAZING!!!!! GREAT JOB!

  • Excuse me a minute.... My mind just exploded all over my computer from the sheer awesomeness of that song and I have to recollect the pieces.

  • I used to love singing this song omg the best

  • My choir is doing this song...our conductor told us to look this song up...WOW. 0.o

  • MAN I can't wait until my choir does this...

  • beautiful arrangement

  • hello, my wife and I sang with the Tuskegee University Golden Voices Concert Choir for several years. We perform many of Mr. Hogan's fantastic arrangements......and want our children to have this same culture as well! Posted the link to Facebook!

  • I'm sad that I can't hear those beautiful bass notes from the altos!

  • @deltanuxkcrp It is unfortunate that altos tend to get buried in recordings like this, especially with those screaming (in a wonderful way!) sopranos.

  • My College Concert Choir is going to sing this this semester...I sure hope we can do this amazing piece justice! Wow! Chills! Thank you so much for posting this!

  • I got the pleasure of singing this piece with the Maine Allstate's Choir, 2010. This song is boss. Everyone got chills while singing, and I remember the stage shaking with the intensity of all the voices. Such a moving song.

  • loved the high soprano

  • Anyone know what cd this version is on? I have been looking for it and it has been a different version. I really want to have a copy of the Moses Hogan Chorale's "Elijah Rock".

  • "Satan aint nothin but a SNAKE IN THE GRASS, he's ,a conjur, HE'S A LIAR...Haaaa-leh-luh-ia Looord." My favorite part when we sang it ha ha great song folks.

  • This is just amazing, I remember singing this in Middle school, I had forgotten all about this arrangement until I came across the name and when I listened to it it just brough me back to my UIL days this is great stuff, the Soprano 1 is just breathtaking and so is everyone else in here, beautifully done

  • I am a middle school choral director. I love Moses Hogan's arrangements, this one being one of my favorites. Although my students are not ready for the difficulty of his arrangements, I love to expose them to his work Last year as we were preparing a different arrangement of "Elijah Rock" (not my favorite, but the kids loved it so I went with it) I had to play this arrangement for them. They went CRAZY for it and they still talk about it a year later. I know it has touched them for life!

  • LOVE the super low Eb's from the alto's at 2:07.

    There were no men singing!!

  • @bbbiggs Its in like a natural minor. No Eb's maybe low d, but the ladies were singing.

  • @bbbiggs its in a minor (no flats) :D, or my computer's a 1/2 step sharp

  • @MusEdMello Correct. It's written Minor.

  • @MusEdMello I have the score in my hand right now. Eb 3 for alto 2's, D4 for alto 1's, F# 4 for soprano 2, G4 for low split soprano 1, and C5 for high soprano...

  • when i was in high school in the choir we did this song. i was a sooprano 1 and man did me and my choir teacher do some work with thoes high notes. lol

  • Beautifull this song is f#€¥£^•

    amazing

  • What is this song about??

  • @Dude5205 There's a story in the bible about Elijah, and he underwent many trials and tribulations. This song sings about how he had to keep strong, and how even in the face of oppression, he stood up and stood by his Lord. :D

  • the Sound is bad, I'm not going to lie just because it is by the original choir. So those people who gave a thumbs down I understand why. Also don't try and say anything like "I don't know good music" because I am a fan, but seeing this objectively, it sounds bad.

  • whoever gave this a thumbs down... you know nothing about TRUE gospel music!

  • So powerful!

  • Brrrrravi!!! Amazing!

    GO TENORS!!!!! :)

  • Theres another version of this that i have to sing in the spring concert next year

  • ihope my chorus does this :D

  • Sang this song freshman year in high school One of the best choral songs EVER!

  • gosh O.O this is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! i got chills throughout the ENTIRE song 8D i can still remember getting chills when i performed this song in my high school chamber singer ensemble, when all the Altos (which i am) became MEN at "stand on the rock where Moses stood" that was AWESOME :D and of course the wall o' sound at the end is very freeing LOUD xD LOVE IT!! it's a real honor to hear this choir :'D thanks SO much for posting!!

  • Tenors. Fantastic.

  • I love Moses Hogan! Is there anyone that has Lift Every Voice For Freedom????

  • Moses Hogan's Battle of Jericho and Elijah Rock will always be my favorite! BRAVO! to this chorale from Philippines.

  • i looooovvvvveeeeee this song!!

    they are SIMPLY AMAZING!!!

  • I think this is one of my top 3 Moses Hogan pieces ever.

  • Amazing!...

  • Classic !

  • That soprano is a BEAST!!!!

  • @MrBrandon0726 My choir's doing this and there's only 1 soprano that can hit all the high notes; who's doubling with her? ME! ^_^

  • i love it!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow!! Over 200,000 views!!! Again, thanks to all for viewing and sharing many kind reflections.

  • @ECBProductions Thank you for posting!!! I am so moved.

  • this song it so cool

  • Gave me goosebumps. What an incredible, mind-blowing performance. Thank you for posting!

  • that soprano singing 1st is amazing!

  • @TotalMusician88 My high school choir director has us to sing all htose songs you just named except My Soul's Been Anchored In The Lord, and we also did this song Elijah Rock also. He loved to show aff those songs.

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hogan back in 1999. He flew up to Maryland to held teach our All-County Honors Chorus one of his pieces---"My Souls Been Anchored in the Lord". He was impressed. He said he wished LA had such a program. He signed a copy of his song for me. I still have it. My high schools Concert Choir did this song in 2002. We got 1st place & Grand Championship honors in New Orleans.

  • GO ALTO"S!!!!!!

  • My high school's concert choir went to the Heritage Festival in San Diego with this piece this year and we won gold first and the adjudicator's award. This song is actually the reason wanted to join concert choir. This is amazing, I'm so glad we got to sing this piece. I only wish we could have done it this amazingly!!

  • @SmallFryAmI heyy i was at the heritage festival too haha we got silver first. VANDEN BABYY! graduating today!!!! damn it feels good to be a gangsta.. haha

  • @mysonnethetruth3 Haha Good job!!

  • wow. this is absolutely amazing. The choir I'm in is doing this song this Thursday. :]

  • I was a tenor when we did this. Satan still ain't nothin' but a snake in the grass!

  • We did this in our spring concert and it was totally awesome!!! All of Moses Hogan's arrangements are really cool.

  • My choir sang this song too. we only have 22 people. I know we're soo not as good as the original but i'd be cool if you watched our video (:

I don't think I can post a link, but if you click my username you'll find it.

I've already commented this video a million times, theyre so good! (:

  • haha we're singing this in my choir

and my throat hurts really bad after it cuz im an alto

    and we go really low..

    anyways,,i love this!! perfect

  • Our Choir did this for Northern Ireland UTV Choir of the Year. In the finals we came a narrow 2 second. I loved singing this. My favorite song my school ever did. I was a lower treble.

  • That soprano is sick. Her voice is deadly. Absolutely amazing songs, one of my favorite arrangements by Moses Hogan.

  • LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!!! The contraltos worked it out! The baritones worked it out! The sopranos were hitting it too! But my hat goes off to the bass for working it out! Work it out bass!

  • Holy goosebumps at the end. At first I didn't like this recording, but MAN did that ending give me chills.

  • My choir teacher told me to look up this peice (We're doing it as well for our Solo and Ensemble group) and I can see why he wanted us to see this! God that was good!

  • The sopranoes are competing with each other. And not very strong.

  • Goosepimples from 2:30 WOW

  • my favorite song i performed in high school... we won in contest with it. LOVELY performance they gave!

  • Man, Moses Hogan is by far my favorite composer. I have yet to hear an arrangement of his that failed to be spectacular.

  • Best spiritual arrangement I have ever sung!!!!!!!

  • Amazing!

  • i love love love this song and they did amazing! Trebleguy471... the women gave me chills toooooo =]

  • this is glorious!

  • WOW. This performance is superb. The woman's section in the middle gave me chills. Stunning

  • Even if that chord over there is just an E7, it sounds amazing. This whole song sounds amazing.

  • my school performed this and they were good but u guys r so much better

  • Wow. That will give you chills.

  • I just noticed that there have been over 180,000 views of this video. Many thanks to all for taking time to watch and for the many wonderful comments that have been shared. I think Moses would be pleased, knowing that his light still shines throughout the international music community. BRAVO to ALL!!!

  • @ECBProductions We need so much more of this AFTER we graduate from school. I'm still a fan of this kind of music and it is very hard to find somewhere to sing it. Especially here in Atlanta.

  • I'm so glad that this was recorded. I've heard soo many bad interpretations

  • His works are amazing. My college choir director loves having us perform his works. We've done Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel, My Soul's Been Anchored In The Lord, Ain't A That Good News, Good News (Chariots A Comin'), and most recently Joshua and the Battle of Jericho. LOVE IT!

  • That's awesome!! I am proud to say that I was one of the baritone voices you hear on the recordings of each of those selections. Much respect to your director for including the works of Moses Hogan in your college repertoire.

  • @TotalMusician88 My high school choir director has us to sing all htose songs you just named except My Soul's Been Anchored In The Lord, and we also did this song Elijah Rock also. He loved to show aff those songs.

  • @TotalMusician88 We need so much more of this AFTER we graduate from school. I'm still a fan of this kind of music and it is very hard to find somewhere to sing it. Especially here in Atlanta.

  • Bravo!!

  • wow... that was amazing... I got chills by the end...

  • Holy Soprano, those women can rock.

  • Yes they can!! EPIC!

  • asdjfklasjdflksajdf, lkaskljs, awesjfrtoicujiowejhfsklhdoicehhfhfhfhfhdsoifhslkdafjh. AHHHHH.

  • we're singing this is my choir too. we slowed it down a bit though cause we didnt like how fast the original was.

  • @xXxKenzixXx That isn't why you slowed it down. You slowed it down because you were not able to keep pace like the professionally trained singers of the Chorale you experience here. No doubt you sound good, but for you to make that statement is insane. If you didn't like the original, you would never have attempted the piece in the first place.

  • they put some soul into their performances. sounds great!

  • He did just pass away a year or so ago. He brought something special to the tradition, and one must remember that music must evolve and be interpreted in order to thrive and survive through the ages. One must not be so harsh.

  • I'm sorry. I must interject. Moses Hogan passed away nearly 7 years ago, my dear.

  • Well, thank you ;). I knew that he had passed away recently. Everyone in the music world talks about it as if he just passed, so I must have become confused. Thank you though; one does not want to make a mistake like that in conversation with high-profile musical peers. Now I can avoid that.

  • Hater...lol

  • its fun to sing harder, faster stuff though

  • Yes...and I'm so pissed that Picasso didn't paint pictures of ponies that looked just like ponies.

The idiocy of your statement clearly proclaims you don't have the first understanding of Dr. Hogan's work. To say that he discards the melody of origin in almost every case is a bald faced mis-statement of fact. He has a huge body of work that has been performed by every choir of significance in the world. Elijah Rock is vocal fireworks by comparison to most of his work. You, sir are a moron.

  • Go back to class and pay closer attention this time-- have a nice day-- anyting sent by you after this will be discarded without reading :]

  • We get it you don't like Moses Hogan. But, bashing his works and insulting everyone won't convince anyone to hate his works with a passion like you do. What were you doing watching this video if you hate it anyway?

  • It should clear to you that my comments are - if anything- in defense of Mr. Hogan and his entire musical and ethnic heritage. I, unlike you, believe that people have rights to their opinions and am not seeking to convince anyone else of anything-- I do not hate his work with a passion . I made an observation of synthetically and unecessarily glamorizing an extraordinary and uniquely black musical art form to impress white listeners-- everything after that is your creation .

  • Say whatever you need to make yourself feel better, but how would you know what Mr. Hogan tried to achieve? What if he had never meant to impress the white audience? There is absolutely no way you can determine what he thinks, espescially now since he has passed away. I believe you're hiding your distaste for his music by saying his music is "unnecessarily glamorized."

  • this gavee meh goosebumps

  • @jenniferleiss i really dont think your choir can be better than the original. Like @martil09 said there is no better gospel choir!

  • @jenniferleiss im in a highschool choir too. i have no doubts that you have a good choir. but to say that you're hella good, and to say you're than the original Moses Hogan Chorale is pretty ridiculous. Every choir has their own way of expressing a song. Arrogance won't get you anywhere dear.

  • my school choir is also singing this and i would never be so ignorant and self-assured to say that we are better than the original moses hogan chorale. think before you speak dear

  • Jenniferleiss....good luck with that this is the Moses Hogan Chorale...there is no better gospel choir...and Moses Hogan wrote this piece and is the director!

  • @jenniferleiss

    I Seriously doubt that.

  • not in a million years, sweety!

  • noob

  • Respect to the altos. This is a tough piece for them, spanning their entire range

  • PHENOMENAL!!!!!

  • LOL @ youherbert09x

  • What powerful singers & dynamic director. Superbly done. This piece by Mogan brings goose bumps on my skin & tears from the eyes. You guys really rock.
