Tom Hanks is awsome- i watched Saving Private Ryan but in that movie i mostly focused on Reiben and in the Da Vinci code-movies Hanks is so boring and then i watched Forrest gump and its probably the best movie ive ever seen and Tom Hanks is really, REALLY handsome! "I hope Neil Young will remember/the Southern man don't need him round anyhow" is a reference to Neil Young's songs criticizing the racist and segregationist attitudes that dominated the South at the time. It was the entire reason that Lynrd Skynrd wrote the song. The use is also ironic, since his mother names Forrest after a racist to teach him not to be racist.

Growing up in the deep south in the 70s, I loved southern rock. Living outside the south for most of the rest of my life, I have learned that some of the sentiments in this song don't fit with my philosophy. But who can deny the music and life in this recording? It is a signature song I can't get enough of, even if I like the studio version better than the live versions.
