  • I still remember me watching this over and over again. Good times.

  • @dreamcastdc I still have one that works Japanese and english PS2s One is in blue. i have Primal Image which was a PS2 Game To Demonstrate Graphics. of course it was girls but come on it was worth it. there is a cute boy in it too btw. Dreamcast Had Slower Loading Times Than PS2. PS2 was Sharper And More HD Than Dreamcast. They Both Had Stereo. Dreamcast was analog Dolby Surround 2.0 while PS2 was 5.1. PS2 And Dreamcast controls were Vice Versa. Best Game for PS2: Tekken Series.

  • dreamcast wins

  • Dreamcast victory!

  • OMG IT'S RIDGE RACER!! RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDGEEE RAAAACEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Had a lot of good memories with the PS2 and the Dreamcast, but I don't care about the graphics at all, but just to make a random point, the DC did infact have double the video capacity over the PS2. The reasons why the games didn't look as good is because the system didn't have enough time in to show it's full power.

  • Cool. Sad that only a hand full of games used the "Emotion Engine" to the max. MGS2 and of course Snake Eater are two of them. MGS 3 is in my opinion the best PS2 game.

  • @KingKKevinKev More than you think actually.

Haunting Ground and numerous Final Fantasy and Resident Evil games did a great job.

  • @KingKKevinKev Shadow of the colossus, God of war 1,2,Black, Grand turismo, their are more games that pushed it Rachet and clank/Jak and daxter games did as well.

  • xD

  • @imeatinglemonade yeah, I do see your point. and I do agree. and although I did like the graphics to sh5 I still feel that they really didn't have any heart to them. which quite honestly is the problem with most graphics of today.

  • too bad.... the final fantasy viii.... tsk tsk....

  • @imeatinglemonade Wow, thanks for agreeing with me.

  • @imeatinglemonade I have silent hill 3 and have played it and yes it does look great. however from a technical standpoint it is not the same. I realize that to the majority it doesn't matter because well if the difference is not visible to the naked eye then well it doesn't matter. But there are some shaders missing and some very soft textures in silent hill 3. there is no bump texturing that I can see and no displacement mapping. Again not saying this game doesn't look great .

  • I still have PlayStation 2

  • the tech demos look nice but there weren't any games on ps2 that looked as good as these demos. Tech demos are usually just smoke and mirrors.

  • @godhandninja You're kidding right?

  • @Charliem1994 why would I be kidding? Name one ps2 game that had the lighting and detailed textures of any of the tech demos and then I will tell you that I was kidding. gow was probably the most impressive graphically on the ps2 and that didn't even come close.

  • @godhandninja Okay first off the third game shown is the bouncer and the final product looks much better. GOW wasn't the most the most impressive on PS2 either. The second game Ridge Racer was a CG demo.

  • @Charliem1994 yeah but the bouncer demo didn't look all that great to begin with. compared to the facial animations and ridge racer and final fantasy there is still nothing on ps2 that looks as good. maybe ridge racer was a cg demo but if that is the case then why show it as an example of the capabilities of the system. thats what I mean by smoke and mirrors. If gow wasn't the most impressive than what was. don't forget Gow 2 was one of the last games on ps2 that anyone really cared about.

  • @godhandninja I know what you mean by Ridge Racer but you have got to understand that it's not only my opinion. Someone else on a similar video that these graphics were not as good as late PS2 games (and he got thumbs up). Haunting Ground and Silent Hill 3 have great facial animations. I was thinking more of Resident Evil 4 or even Final Fantasy 12 (which was also one of the last PS2 games).

  • @Charliem1994 ah yeah how could i forget about resident evil 4. but that game looked better on the gamecube. when I am talking about graphics I mean the actual light effects, texture passes and such. Gow in terms of texture and lighting was better than ff 12 or resident evil because it wasn't as long of a game. but still even if resident evil and ff12 were better do you really think in terms of all the graphical effects implemented in the demos that they are even comparable?

  • @godhandninja Yes I do think they are.

  • @Charliem1994 then all I can say if you knew anything about graphics you would know that they are not. and that is a fact not an opinion. There are so many more shaders and textures being used in the demos than on the ps2. and that is because it is easier to focus on graphics when there is no ai or level design or characters. Those things take up memory which causes the developers to do a balancing act between graphics and gameplay. which is why I prefer to see a demo of an actual game.

  • @godhandninja Well that's your opinion, I have mine. OK?

  • @Charliem1994 did you miss the part where I said "that is fact and not an opinion"? but if you have yours than yeah thats OK.

  • @godhandninja It isn't fact....

  • @Charliem1994 whatever man . how is it not fact? I just told you why it was by explaining that those demos had a lot more effects than any realtime game on ps2 and still you can't accept it . I am not saying that ps2 had bad graphics, though it was the least powerful console at the time. all I am saying is that tech demos are misleading to what can be done in real time on an actual game. gamecube,xbox,ps3,and xbox360 all had tech demos and none of them ever match that quality. That is a fact.

  • @godhandninja I'll admit that sometimes tech demos are misleading. But PS2 has better quality than this.

  • @Charliem1994 well, at least you admitted that tech demos are misleading.

  • @godhandninja Just not all of them.

  • @Charliem1994 lol. I will agree with you on that much.

  • @godhandninja Cool.

  • Happy 2000!!! Oh wait... Its 2011 already... So fast.

  • 2000: omg the ps2 is sooooooo great!!!!! its goona kill the dc 2001:ps2's old man get xbox or game cube 2002:bored oh gta vc better check dat out 2003:bored 2004:halo 2 comes out for xbox.... • I was massively disappointed with the PS2 graphics when it debuted.

Considering the Dreamcast's release a year earlier, and the Xbox and Gamecube a year after - the PS2 should have been a LOT better under the hood.

Hype made it the success today.

It was the hardest to develop for, so alot of games had bland, low res textures, with only a handful making use of it's power.

    IMO, an overrated system.

Compare it to the PS3 graphics...now that is truly a beast of a machine. Bravo Sony.

  • @ExtremeBogom

The textures mostly sucked since it had 40 MBs of memory and most of it was quite slow at 3.2 GBs, and it had no texture compression.

It got the job done and could do a lot though, massive success obviously.

  • @Usul573

Are you talking about the PS2, or the Gamecube?

PS2 had 32mb of memory but I know Gamecube had around 40 odd...

  • @ExtremeBogom

    *cracks knuckles*

    The PS2.

It had 32MB of main memory, pretty slow to access memory, and then it had 4MB built into the graphics chip and 2MB for sound, 2MB for I/O. 40MB total, no texture compression.

Gamecube had 43MB total, the 24MB of main memory could access as much as ten times as fast as the PS2's main memory, 16MB for buffering, 3MB built into the graphics chip, it had texture compression.

Wii is a decent upgrade overall, obviously PS3 is a major upgrade.

    Yep.

  • @Usul573

Cool man, thanks for taking the time to write that out. Very informative, and better than any other reply on here.

  • @ExtremeBogom

Yeah no problem, I like learning about older and new technology, each console works differently and is so tricky to understand though, even if you read about them. Anything else you want to know about consoles then?

  • @Usul573

Not at the moment dude, but cheers for the insight. Happy New Year btw!

Let this year bring better news for everybody...

  • @ExtremeBogom

One little hindsight note, I think the PS2 could do texture compression but it would have to be programmed and would impose a performance hit. How's it going?

  • @Usul573 hmm texture compression on ps2?

    how could that work?

and i know for sure that the ps2 can enconde a game in Dolby Digital or DTS but is uses dolby pro logic. in other words its using stereo surround instead of 5.1 surround

  • @geforce68ultra

I just think it needs to be programmed with software using the CPU for texture compression.

Pretty sure the Xbox and GC had hardware texture compression built in for free more or less.

The PS3 and 360 have really good texture capabilities.

I think the PS2 only can do 5.1 surround for videos/movies/DVD only, besides that Pro Logic II.

  • They must be like "What the F....." if they saw PS3 graphic at that time

  • @xXM6000Xx the xbox was better than ps2, but I dont care what fanboys say, the ps3 is better than 360.

and the pc has always been the best....

    I'm not a fanboy.

I have no life, and spend my time anylisying stuff like this lol!

  • @fightingfreak123 hi is showing the gt2 for ps1

  • @xXM6000Xx

Original XBOX controller was awful end of

PS2 slayed everything last gen software wise, worst graphics or not. just like the wii is this gen....difference being, 99% of the games on the PS2 didnt suck

only reason i liked my XBOX was because i could listen to custom soundtracks in GTA, but even thats over-rated

  • I must have gotten the wrong system, mine looked nothing like that

  • @xXM6000Xx eh xbox had better graphics, better online, and a built in hdd but dreamcast was better than xbox imo. it was much smaller plus the original xbox didnt live up to the hype. it barely had any good games besides halo 1,2, and doom 3(along with the ressurrection of evil expansion pack). hell xbox didnt even let u play dvds without the remote and add-on which was totally lame dude

  • i have grand trismo 3 for ps2 and it's graphics look like ps3 graphics.

  • @ghess11 oh yea i agree

  • Gawd the ridge racer is ooooooold. I had that game. Still do!

  • the most graphic game for PS2 would be soul caliber 3 that is insane with graphics

  • @DisneyGirl5241 true

  • your forgetting god of war 2. now that had insane graphics.

  • most people brought it to show off when it first came our. Same people only had tekken tag aswell.

  • hypestation 2

  • @nooblet911 Hypestation 2?

    Lol, perhaps.

But, it's still better than the Dreamcast.

The only game on that system that delivered the kind of graphics you saw in the Demos was Shenmue.

The PS2 had Tekken 4, Tekken Tag, Final Fantasy X and XII and Countless others that easily match these graphics.

  • @XcXtrippyXcX how u forget tekken 5 god of war 2 soul calibur 3 resident evil 4 and black. especially gran turismo 4

  • @XcXtrippyXcX

Yes, the stand out games on PS2 look amazing today, especially GT4, and Tekken 4.

The PS2, and Dreamcast were very similar, except the PS2 had more processing power, but Dreamcast had more VRAM for the graphics chip. The reality is Dreamcast could draw higher resolution textures, but couldn't handle as many processes at once due to less CPU power and free RAM.

So I don't think PS2 or Dreamcast is better.

But the PS2 should have been stronger graphically, and easier to DEV for.

  • @nooblet911 LOL everything that isn't playstation is 2nd hand gaming....

  • Back then that must've been the shit.

  • lolol 10 years ago

  • the ps2 was not a 32-bit, it was "in a general sense" a 64-bit processor

  • hmmm , 128 bit to be exact lol

  • what the ridge racer music with the girl?

  • You are a Playstation fanboy lol I went to your page and looked at "My Recent Comments" on you page, and you do nothing but trash talk about everything that is not Playstation. Really you are a Playstation fanboy, and fanboy's believe in only what they want to believe in.

  • ps2 rules

  • the ps2 SCPH39000 have a different graphic chip from the black slim ps2 and the fat ps2,the silver slim ps2 has a better graphic chip than all of the ps2,SCPH39000 is the silver slim ps2,if you dont believe me go on google and type in ps2 wiki, the only thing all of the ps2 have is the same imotion chip.those of you that say ps2 graphic suck its probably becuase ya dont have the newest ps2 which is the silver ps2 slim which came out in the late 2007.

  • The newest PS2 plays the same exact games as the original PS2, so what is the sense is wasting $100+ on some new PS2? The Dreamcast had more video ram then the PS2 for christ sakes.

PS2 = 4MB video ram with no texture compression

Dreamcast = 8MB Video Ram W/ Texture Compression

  • Dreamcast still had games being made for it.

Dreamcast was the first online console and it had a browser too.

Dreamcast had a Hitachi 200Mhz processor that matched up with PS2 because the Dreamcast processor was under clocked on purpose.

The PS3 processor is not 128-bit, it was 32-bit. The Dreamcast claimed to be 128-Bit also, before the PS2. Both were 32-bit processors.

You proved to me that your a PS2 fanboy.

I proved to you, that Dreamcast is more powerful, sorry i hurt your feelings.

  • I wouldn't call a shooting game once a year still having games and their made by low time devs.

secondly dreamcast was not first.... saturn i think was

*goes to play metal gear solid 3*

  • Well too bad Dreamcast became a miserable failure and the PS2 turned out to be a thriving success, producing countless classic games in its journey after its launch.

  • PS2 got success mostly as the cheapest DVD player at that time.

  • No, its because people trusted Sony after the success of the PS1 and didn't want anything to do with Sega after the miserable failures of the Saturn, 32X and Mega CD.

  • yeah and the original ps2 had a lens lifespan of 7 years if treated well

  • shenmue and soulcalibur wiped the floor with everything the ps2 had at launch, yo

  • this is true but ps2 had better titles 2002 and afterwards

  • @FastandFurious450

not surprisingly as dc was discontinued in 2001...

  • It's not the power, it's the games that count.

  • The dreamcast did kick out better textured graphics than the ps2, i wonder why dreamcast never was as big, i remember having on :(

  • because ppl could easily pirate dreamcast games, sega had a bad reputation after the saturn, no dvd player built in, no EA games on dreamcast(think madden), and no backwards compatibility with saturn games. i love my ps2 but i wish dreamcast couldve stayed alive. it was much better system than microsoft's xbox and nintendo's gamecube

  • i had a dreamcast although i only had a football game i preffered going to my moms room and play with my ps2 ^^

  • wait is there a way 2 download that song at 3 secs

  • Look up the Ridge Racer 4 Sountrack.

  • ha the fight scene is Ehrgeiz 2 but retitled the bouncer :/ random game trivia...>>;;

  • no da graphics this isn't ps1 gamez its da demo dance sence its just pre renered on video on its really done on the ps2

  • The difference is on the PS1 the dance scene was just a pre-rendered video, and on this demo it is done in real-time on the PS2.
