I laughed so hard when Bornstein gave away the penalty, and the second goal was a deflection off of him. Oh Klinsmann, please find us a solid Left Back!
The U.S. goal was scored on a Dutch defensive breakdown - most of the Dutch defense seemed to think there was an offside trap going on, one defender did not, and that allowed two US players to slip through and Bocanegra to score without being offside.
The first Dutch goal was a total dive. Bornstein has been unfairly singled out for having fouled the guy.
The second Dutch goal was a total fluke - an unpredictable deflection off a US defender. Nobody at fault there either.
now THAT's an american sportman...HOLDEN...dude BREAKS his leg and refuses the stretcher....YEAH!!!!....it's this kinda' thing that makes me proud!!!!!
@nielstheman since when is a PK and deflected shot "a whole other level"? did you watch the game? great chances on both sides. USA was just unlucky. thats just how soccer goes. although I will say we need a better target player uptop than altidore. not that he isnt a great player b/c we all know that he is, but he's not a threat like messi, rooney, or torres who can create all on his own.
USA got alot more better facing teams that are strong, we now lose to them by 1 goal, when we face Czech Rep. and Turkey in May, we are going to do really well. Mexico on the other hand is going to lose when they face strong teams in May becuase they only spend time facing weak teams so they can win and make its fans think that Mexico is the best.
@Legoman2022 SOOOOO true...and what's funny is that they couldn't score on iceland...no offense to the great people of iceland, but the mexicans claim CONCACAF dominance but if it's true, you can't draw against iceland....
nepotism at is best!!! bradley is only a starter because his dad is "da coach" notice how on the 2nd goal he just stands there watching the play.
Any true U.S soccer fan(oxymoron I know) should be outraged to see this collusion between a father & a son and possibly the whole organization take place. Are you really telling me this is the best we got as far as midfielders?
@Chitownboy1023 Ha dude you need to chill for a sec. If you put Gooch back in the mix and remove Bornstein then thats a solid back 4 (if I remember correctly its the same 4 that locked down spain). Also in the midfield you're going to find Clint Dempsey. He's showing promise to be a great success and a no brainer starter. Donovan hasn't produced much out on the left there and he's an impact player. If you put Donovan and Dempsey in the middle together then that could be very exciting.
#1- Bradley needs to learn to play to WIN not to tie #2- Bornstein? STOP #3- Play your best players...and have them attack!!#4- this is NOT 1980, the US has talent to play much more posessive football, cut the bs Bradley with your old school nonsense. #5-ATTACK #6-Play THROUGH the midfield, not OVER it
@dmoney668 I AGREE!!!!....i'm sure the guy has an overall plan that we, as fans, are unaware of, but he does piss me off a bit....i'll NEVER forgive him for putting our 2/3rd string players against mexico that produced the 5-0 loss....and the mexicans will never let us forget it either...
Bornstein did not perform well at all, hes just the backup everybody. Bocanegra had to get moved to a centerback cus Gooch is injured. Hopefully Gooch will get in there with Bornstein out and Bocanegra back to leftback. Take out Torres and Holden and replace them with Ricardo Clark and Dempsey! Well Dempsey is injured sadly... And Findley? He sucks fat weiner. Put Conor Casey in the front!!!
Terrible college level performance from the U.S. Robbie findley better not ever play for the national team again. The bottom line is the US's problem isn't talent it's mentallity. Instead of playing one touch football and encouraging creative things like effective one one dribble moves they play this idiotic grade school game that gets us dominated against teams like brazil.
Ok its a friendly not WC 2010 so calm down, anyways i hope bornstein doesnt go to the w.c bc he just isnt at the level yet, i mean robben, snnieder, elli, were toyin with him, maybe in the next wc but idk about this one.
lol lmao i just got to say this was the number 3# team lol USA was missing 3 starters and NED couldnt even score on us intill the BS pen call and a own goal by our def.. I tell you guys wut dont wrry about this game we are far better than the NED and we will be in the final of the 2010 WC come this summer USA USA USA
On another note, we really stepped it up toward the end. What changed? If we'd played like that the whole game we probably would've tied it, if not won.
De Jong should have been red-carded. That was a really dangerous tackle, and it's just a friendly! Overall, I was pleased with the USA's performance... we got no help from Lady Luck or the refs, and we lacked creativity, but we held our own against one of the top teams in Europe. I wonder, how ought we deal with the lack of attacking verve?
@steveag1991 No it is the other way around. He wanted to play for Germany, but never got called up a lot or started. So now he wants to play for USA and we are his sloppy seconds.
Netherlands scored on two BS goals. You gotta believe that with Onyewu on the back line instead of Borenstein, at least one of those goals (if not both) do not occur, just bounce Bocanegra or DeMerit outside when Gooch gets back.
With Holden out, I hope Bradley starts giving Freddy Adu some looks in the outside midfield spots.
Nothing BS about to goals buddy. Deflections and penalties are a part of the game. Perfectly legit. Let's not forget about the easy one-on-one opportunity missed by Elia.
my god i hope VDV gets out of real madrid, he has so much talent that they arent using. I could see him seetling in nicely somewhere else like arsenal, or barca that will likely not happent though
im not from the usa but to be fair the Netherlands are ranked 3rd in the world, and im sure the players were atleast somewhat happy to come away with result that they did.
Bornstein seriously hurt his chances of being in the starting XI in South Africa this game. The deflection wasn't really his fault but the foul that led to the penalty... you really can't do stuff like that on the national level, plus the handball he got away with. I thought Beasley was great though, one assist and denied a 1 on 1 scoring chance with the keeper by an academy award-worthy dive by De Jong. Not a bad showing from the USA in my book.
USA is good, we are just trying to make the world think were bad but in reality we are stronger than any team in the world. In 2010 we are going to shock the world and make them see who is the most dominate team in history. United States of America
the ref sucked that game. first portion of the game, it was all one sided refereeing. De Jong should have been sent off for that foul on Holden...with the refs USA always get they wouldve have had an early shower. :( 3 things. Jozy beast...once torres gets going hes amazing...Demarcus is BACK!!!
Bradley NEEEEDDS To bring FREDDY ADU into the team. he's the only one with A LOT of creativity Torres, Dempsey, and Donovan, got that too. but Donovan and Clint shouldn't be doing this, they should be attacking. Bradley says he doesnt bring him cuz not enough playin time. but now that he does and is playing really well he still doesnt call him up. M. Bradley is just a player with no brain out there he goes into takles with out thinkin and doesnt even do much. Put Freddy and torres in the mid
they did get lucky but we played poorly. The loss of Davies and Dempsey showed. The dutch dominated. Jozy took it to a different level the second half and I was proud of DeMarcus.
@alhex123 yep i agree with you. this should have been a 1-1 tie. there should not have been a foul on this play. they should have just let them play on
At 1:11 if you freeze frame, you can see the severity of the injury but good thing it wasn't a broken leg. That is a red card on De Jong any way you look at it and what is worse is that the official is so close to the play. On another note, Bornstein with yet another bonehead penalty like the one against Slovakia. Should have been two penalties on Bornstein but the official let the blatant handball slip. Mexico only plays weak teams so that the fans can think Mexico is the best?
Seriously, Legoman2002?
First of all.
Mexico doesnt decide what teams we play against.
and 2nd Mexico and the USA pretty much play the same teams.
Were both in CONCACAF.
