  • Glad I found this-had the name wrong too-the distinctive sound of the ship in flight has always been in my mind-does any body know of another early black and white show about astronauts looking for a lost spaceship on the Moon ? Those ships had a distinctive sound as well.

  • You have totally made my day!!!!! Haven't seen this for 40-odd years - I even remember the moving marbles. I'm still hooked...

  • Thanks very much to auspete, for uploading Space Patrol, which is what I was originally watching, before I decided to read the other comments.

  • Wow, that female character sounds like a moron :(

  • Sorry but this show makes no sense! They go to investigate a building collapse, some hippie on a spaceship fires a destructive ray of some sort, and the next scene they are planning a banquet? wtf

  • @jsuttonus In order to hopefully avoid copyright problems it is a vastly abridged glimpse of a full episode. I posted it 5 years ago simply to remind its original viewers about the show, and for its titles and end credits.

  • @auspete And many, many thanks for doing this....

  • I wanted to shoot the robot all it ever did was walk across the doorway

  • I remember watching this on my mum and dad's 21" Astor B/W tv in Australia back in the early sixties...the weird tones scared the life out of me! Oh...and the eyes on the marionettes scarfed me as well!!!

  • Roberta Leigh's imagination is amazing and even in the early 1960s she could see how primitive rocket ships were. In creating her Galospheres, she out-Andersoned Gerry Anderson. Even more of an achievement in the male dominated 60s, when it was much harder to be a female entrepreneur.

  • im sure there was some sorta creature called a

gobbleadicktum sounds like a porn stars name to me tho

  • When Jonathan Frakes ruins this by making it into a live action movie I think he should have Kathy Griffin play the part of Marla................

  • This series was created by Roberta Leigh. She had teamed with Gerry Anderson in the Fifties to create Twizzle - then Torchy The Battery Boy. But they split, soon after, as Gerry wanted to make series for OLDER kids - and adults.

Gerry went on to create Four Feather Falls, Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray and of course - Thunderbirds.

But Roberta was less successful. While Space Patrol did well, two other series - though innovative - never got beyond the pilot stage.

    She still lives, aged 84.

  • Brilliant series - loved it as a kid . . .

  • Nah, I think Gerry Anderson's mind was and always will be undefeated. The sophistication of Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray and especially Thunderbirds were better. Thumbs up if you agree!

  • I found out about this show from 'how tv ruined your life'. It's brilliant.

  • Does any one remember three serials called "Pathfinders"? There was "Pathfinders Into Space" mostly set on The Moon; "Pathfinders to Mars", and "Pathfinders to Venus". They starred, among other actors, Gerald Flood. I think most of them were wiped, but I did see 15 minutes of "Pathfinders Into Space" at a Kalidescope event. Every so often I search for them on Youtube but nothing there.

  • As a kid I could do a very good impression of Husky. When we were on a school trip to Switzerland way back in 1968 our hotel room had two lights above the washbasin with separate switch for each one. Just for a joke I turned them on , one after the other , as I did I said "Gamma rays on" Yobba rays on!" in my best 'Husky' voice . My best friend was almost on the floor laughing hysterically ( Well , we were only 12 years old at the time!" ) That has brought back fond memories!

  • I remember This program well I was into all of the pupit shows

  • just think there is a VT engineer who pressed rec .now i'm not one to bear a grudge but i am so glad he did.oh and i have a dvd.

  • I wish the DVDs of the series weren't so scarce and expensive.... Otherwise I'd buy it without doubt!

  • just watched this episode of space patrol that I, quite literally, haven't seen for more than 40 years.......I honestly feel quite emotional......youtube.......what an invention!!!

  • I remember it being on the tv when I was a kid although it wasn't repeated very often. It was as good as the Gerry Anderson stuff although a little more creaky with regard to the puppets movements. I remember there were Space Patrol sweet cigarettes available too.

  • The series ran in the US under the title "Planet Patrol" to avoid confusion with the 1950s American live-action series of the same name. It seems like those who remember this show constitute a secret sect! Everyone rememebers the Gerry Anderson shows, everyone has forgotten this one. Yet, the eerie futuristic music and the thomping sound in the backgound of the cityscape haunt me to this day!

  • Do they have this series available in region 1.

I liked Fireball alright, but they had this annoying monkey like creatures, and the wires were more obvious on the marionettes.

  • @ysbaddaden2003

I am sure the box set is region 0 so it will play anywhere in the world.

What idiot decided to put region codes on DVDs in the first place!!!

  • The puppets scared me when i was a kid come to think of it they still do...

  • Good grief! Space Patrol! I was starting to think that I'd imagined it all. None of my mates can remember this show, but I've been haunted by that whirling, gyroscopic spacecraft, and the weird electronic music for nearly 50 years! Hooray for YouTube.

  • I've had Volume 2 of this series on video for about 7/8 years, must have watched it countless times, is it worth forking out 45/50 quid to buy the entire series off amazon/ebay?

  • @CI5AgentSweeps If you've watched it that often then the box set is definitely worth having, if only so you can watch the other 35 episodes (plus all the extras which are brilliant). You shouldn't have to pay that much on Amazon or eBay considering the set was recently re-released. I paid 35 pounds for mine in 2003 when it was first released and I've never regretted it. Since the re-release I've even been considering getting a second set.

  • @auspete It's a good thing it was recently re-released because if it wasn't then the set would be going for something stupid like £200 :( I suppose I should go for it if I've watched it that many times it's just every time I put it in the video player every now and then I end up watching it to the end, there's something about Space Patrol that makes it very watchable :)

  • @auspete Just ordered it from amazon off a seller for £44 :) It's the repackaged version :) I don't think the price was too bad :) I saw it for £35 when networkdvd were having a "spring clean" on their website but I passed up the chance :( Don't think the set will come cheaper than that :)

  • @CI5AgentSweeps

    No its not

  • @Wulfrig I think it is :) Space Patrol is a fantastic series :)

  • Oh - and I love the stories too! Unashamedly!

  • I know we all think Gerry Anderson is the 'tops' in this genre - but honestly; this is a series all its own and SO unique! I just LOVE these puppets! Particularly Marla and Slim which are my favourite characters - and their voices too! This is a real gem that's worth its very weight in gold...

  • tks again just got fireball xl5 space patrol will be next cant believe it was 45 yrs ago i watched this..

  • @pdogone1

I just purchased the lot! (Gerry Andersons) Just couldn't wait to own every series one by one. (got no will power for waiting...: - ) )

  • I thought it came out in the 1950's

  • tks found some copies

  • man oh man ive been looking for this had wrong name thought it was planet patrol thanks a million..have to see if its available for sale

  • @pdogone1 It was re-released by Network for ONE MONTH ONLY in early 2010 but copies are available via Amazon traders.

  • @pdogone1

It's available still via Amazon - expensive, but worth every penny! ; - ) Don't leave it too long, otherwise they may be all gone!

  • @pdogone1 It was shown in the USA as Planet Patrol because there was a popular TV show in the fifties called Space Patrol and they wanted to avoid confusion.

  • Quite English. Broadcast as Planet Patrol in the USofA. I have the series on DVD!

  • @DoctorJK3 Hold on to it, a used copy on US Amazon is $200!

  • The track is amazing!

  • wow! thanks for this! i had memories of that city with the tubes and the vehicles moving through them, but no one else remembered it. this is so great to see it again!

  • PS; I'm searching for Zuni...the alien with a head like a potato

  • @LeeMatePhoenix

IT IS SUPERCAR UK TV GERRY ANDERSON

  • @LeeMatePhoenix

    SORRY FIREBALL XL5

  • I never thought I'd see this again either. I must have been about 7 or 8 years old its first time round. I remember it to portray exploration and wonderment. The following serieses of Stingray, etc, were just a means to forcefeed kids with militaristic things

  • id completlely forgotten about this series having been about 8 when i saw it last. all i remembered was the strange sounds and the cityscape with the trasport tubes that facinated me as a kid.fantastic to see it again after nearly 50 years! thanks for posting this.

  • was this a gerry anderson show? i have never heard of it

  • @lifeson46 No, Space Patrol is NOT a Gerry Anderson show, but was made by people who worked with Gerry previously. It's the very similar Fireball XL5 that Gerry Anderson made. Both are good.

  • @CenaTv2 thank you.

  • loved this on sunday evening was there some robots who protroled outside buildings

  • Barstools on a spaceship, very cool. Is Marla on drugs?; she went down like a shot duck....

  • I also remember this is as a 5 year old. The electronic special audio effects used to scare the hell out of me, but I was glued. It was a great apprenticeship for William Hartnell vintage Dr Who which also had me hiding behind the sofa in those far off days of 405 lines and Radio Rentals TVs! Great to rediscover Space Patrol - well done auspete!

  • Roberta Leigh was Way ahead of her time with this superb series.yes bring back sweet memories sitting with my dad watch this show as a 5yr old .The electonica used is just as good as anything the BBC Radiophonic workshop was producing at the same time ie Dr Who

    great stuff

  • Oh Also I remember our show as being Planet patrol where we lived I think!. Oh well thanks again!

  • Maybe a Poor Mans XL5, But still another great kids show of the 60s! . They were great when you are a kid looking at the stars and wondering what is out there really. Thanks for putting this on I knew there was another show before XL5 And the others . I love all these Puppet shows It took a lot of time & work to make even these short videos . Thanks again for the Rewind in Time!!!

  • Thanks for sharing. Brings back memories. Shall lose sleep.

  • This was one of my childhood favourites... "Yabba rays on;..... check." Been looking for footage for a long time. "Stingray "was another another classic puppet show.

  • This was one of my favourites as a kid in the early 1960s. Some of the music is very similar to some of the background music in David Lynch's Dune, from 1981. What a story line; a terrorist on a tower block kills hundreds of people and the response is to blow up some Asian/Arab-looking people. Does that sound slightly familiar?

  • Wonderful.

Indeed, the soundtrack is brilliantly spooky.

as is the mysterious and creepy spinning spaceship in the intro.

Loved it as a kid, still find it fascinating.

  • This was a brilliant series. The sound effects were the best. I preferred this show over Fireball-XL5. Slim was the first androgynous marionette.

  • LOL: Marla's "Mozart"!

I like the way they sneaked real buildings into this series: London's Post Office Tower in the closing titles (as a model?) and the Empress State Building (really in Fulham, London). Film of the ESB was inserted to represent Haggerty's home/lab.

Both buildings were contemporary with the series: the PO tower was completed in 1964 and the ESB in 1961. Apparently MI6 were early tenants in the latter and the building was renovated and extended upward in 2003.

  • @121ricmac yes i thought one of the buildings looked just like the post office tower!

  • explosion upset her equilibrium, yeah right alchoholics come up with bizzare excuses. why didnt she just admit shed been on a bender??!!

  • Does this have any connection too "TunderBirds"?

  • I've been told that this show was produced by Arthur Provis, who was Gerry Anderson's partner in A.P. Films. And yes, it was a bit of a poor man's Fireball XL5.

  • They must have modelled Spocks spaceship in the new Trek movie on a Galasphere

  • Love the music but looking at the series now it is tongue in cheek and very funny.

    I have the box set.

  • its a shame the kids now would laugh at shows like this, including my own,we thought they were great

  • I remember this, it was like a poor man's Gerry Anderson show. I'd say that the soundtrack was inspired by the 50s film Forbidden Planet. As a kid I never missed this.

  • Is that Ayn Rand at 1:22!!?

  • I don't know about you, but the "soundtrack" kind of left me cold. DId anyone else feel this way about the score?

  • Anyone else remember an episode with a "goonie bird" that laid square eggs?

  • just bought the set on dvd,in the 60s i had a toy galasphere from the prog,oh god the things you throw away!!!

  • Crikey Space Patrol...its all coming back to me...

  • This was an lunchtime show here in NYC in the early to mid 60's. Glad to

see that someone was bright enough

    to save this for posterity.

  • most of the series is available on dvd fom amazon. brillient early series that planted the seed for my love of s.f.from boyhood

  • Wasn't Husky from Mars and the bloke with the high voice a" Venusian". I remember them talking of "Gamma Rays" working and "Yobba Rays" working..the clanking music/soundtrack and the little pods in the glass tibes..that's it. Longgg time. Thanks for posting

  • I wish the model of the city never throw on the trash. Because this is going to be option for charity do this city models

  • This is great to see again. I was born in 61 and watched this series when I was 5, 6 & 7 etc..in Australia. It is quite strange to see it again and that soundtrack is as spooky as ever. I was also a big fan of Stingray more than Thunderbirds and even though Gerry Anderson did a better job, Space Patrol holds a special place in my memory.

  • Yeah I remember it too,It was on channel 2 in the evenings.I remember when the crew got into the ship. They straped into these strange laydown bunks and rotated, then the ship would dissapear when it approached light speed.Makes sense.

  • That isn't what he said.

  • HI all i had forgotton about this little gem from my childhood being a big fireball xl5 and supercar fan(showing my age)lets have some more of this one.

  • I watched this when I was very little. The robots used to terrify me. There was an episode where they all malfunctioned and formed an army. Definitely the weird synth sound of the moon base was fixed in my memory too. Great to see it and revive those memories. Many thanks.

  • The buildings kept falling down due to the bad model makers they were employing.

Thanks for this post, I'm still laughing!!

  • Marla...I swear I've gone out with chics as weird as her..........

  • Got this on my fallout radio

    :3

  • Brilliant ! One of my favourite programmes as a kid . I even had a Space Patrol Annual !

  • Marla went down like a sack of shit! lol

  • of course if you really want to freak out all the expat Aussies out there you could BRING BACK AUNTIE JACK!

  • I have a very hazy memory of this being on TV when I was a kid although if you blinked you missed it. It was never as widely shown as the Gerry Anderson stuff but was so similar you'd think it was made by Anderson. I remember the odd synth sound as the ship flew along. I remember the characters travelling in the tube trains. I also remember Space Patrol sweet cigarettes in the shops.More please!

  • Watched this as a little kid and it's probably responsible for my love of sci-fi. To all the other Aussies who are reading this...what was the name of the kids TV show with Reg Quartley and Uncle Mac and DowneyFlake Donuts eating competition? I finally remembered Video Village w/- Danny Webb, but this one still escapes me!

  • Produced my Roberta Leigh who had previously worked with Gerry Anderson on puppet show hence the similatrities especially with XL5...

with a very tight budget is a big ask to compevte with AP studions..

No film was thought to exist until recently when a full set of 16mm reels were discovered in Leights loft

the stories tended to be more sober than XL5 - perhaps failing the young audiences for which it was created for....

    ,

  • Arthur Provis was involved with Space Patrol and he was the former business partner of Gerry Anderson in the company APF - Anderson, Provis Films.

  • Great series. It is nice to stumble onto this program. Like most of you guys it's been over 30 years since I've seen it. The important question; does any body know where I can get an original copy? Please don't tell me about the $200+ for that one guy on Amazon. I prefer a legitimate copy on dvd rather than a clone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • gosh i am a old git now at 54 I remember this and I m hungry I want a Martian sausage lol and I didnt know the Martian accent was like Russian haha .

  • Anyone remember these lines-

A Venusian has the facility never too forget!

I'm hungry I wish I had some Martian sausages!

My sister and brother and myself still quote them to this day.

    Brilliant stuff!

  • That Marla hey, hubba hubba hubba!

  • the space ship sound....yeah i remember...thx ytube

  • Yeah! That odd sound when the ship was flying. I remember that. I remember the tube trains they travelled in too. I was very young indeed.....

  • Ooochie- pah-pah

    Ooochie- pah-pah

    Ooochie- pah-pah

Loved it all those years ago and always remembered that sound. Great memories

    lol!

  • I thought I was the only one who remembered this ! huge thanks for putting so many memories from my childhood. I will never forget the sound of the spaceship !

  • I can barely remember this. I'm Aussie as well, but have stronger memories of Fireball XL5, and of course, Thunderbirds. (As well as 'The Samurai" which I'll search for next!) I was born in 63. Jeez You Tube is great!

    Thanks for posting this.

  • I rented alot of episodes of the Samurai from

    Blockbuster Video.Sure brought back memories

like this series."It must be the work of the Kooga Ninjas, better get Shintaro"

  • I'm in Australia & I remember seeing this on tv in the very early 60's - before I started school in 1965. My older brother loved it but I was still so young that I was frightened by the strange soundtrack & the scary eyes of the puppets. But all these years the images and esp. the eery electronic tune that played whenever the space station was shown floating through space have haunted with me. Thanks so much for this!! I've searched on here before but thought it was called "Space Station".

  • Britian covered the world real good with airing Fireball XL5, Supercar, Thunderbirds, etc all over the world! I grew up with these shows in the USA and never forgot them!

  • I remember this from when I was very small, way before I went to school. It wasn't around for long. I remember there were Space Patrol sweet cigarettes in the shops too. D'oh!

  • Whao, Different space patrol than I thought it was.

This is still good though. Freaky.

  • oh man I wish I grew up with this :(

  • Is Marla Slim's girlfriend?

  • Im not going to lie. This sorta scares me.

  • Roberta Leigh was so creative, and pre-dated Thunderbirds!

I didn't realise when I was small that she created this, Twizzle, Torchy the battery boy and hoppity.

I spent my formative years watching and loving these programmes.

How come her creations aren't remembered today?

  • I used to watch this back in 1965 on WPIX when I lived in Cresskill New Jersey. What memories!

  • Where are the Saturnians? They were the Best!!!

  • I swear, I always thought Dart's Venusian crewman was a woman!

  • The source of much fascination when I was a kid. The theme "music" used to freak me out as well as Marla and her weird face and eyes!!!

  • marla reminds me of commedienne jenny eclair

  • Australian series!

  • Um, no, it's an English series.

  • Yea gods, memories are flashing back. Had many an argument that this programme existed but nobody believed me......

  • where on earth did you find this clip from? happy memories from long ago, i thought there was only me that remembered this......

    thank you

  • Whole series was released on DVD several years ago. Now deleted I fear, but sure you could pick one up on ebay. (Also certain episodes issued on VHS before this)

  • Excellent programme - currently watching the whole series again. Great work from Roberta Leigh and Arthur Provis.

  • Galloshpere 347 right?

  • yes mate galaxshere 347

    i remember it too

  • I was quite young when this was on... Really good to see this again. I noticed a very young Knoll Edmunds in this show.. ;o))Thanks.

  • space patrol or noggin the nog the best tv ever made

  • ...And "Rubovia"...yeah.

  • Aaah! come on Pongo! at last someone else who remembers!

  • @fendermac Thank you so much for giving me the name of the puppet show that I've tried, and failed to remember for years and years! Now at last, my mind is at rest, (on this subject, at least)!

  • Ooh,ooh, ooh.I want "Four Feather Falls"...Thanks for this though.

  • Excellent! Thanks for uploading this show! What memories. More please! I was just a tot when I used to watch this in South Australia in the early 60s. Fabulous!

  • Ooowee I wish I could get that Galasphere music as a ring tone

  • This was before star trek right?

  • yes... '63... Doctor Who also came to be in '63, and the Cybermen in '64 - what Star Trek later blatantly stole, to make the Borg. Only worse.

  • Yes well before.

  • Wow! Thanks for logging that I never thought I would see Space Patrol again. My absolute favourite back in the day.

  • is this a full episode?

  • This show is so unbelieveably underrated!

  • My brother and I used to squabble when we were little about which was the better show, Space Patrol or Fireball XL5. Well, you just have to listen to the syrupy XL5 music and compare it to the dark, electronic sounds of SP to know I was right. Almost fifty years on, Space Patrol still rocks!

  • you tube please put the english space patrol clips together for us all!

  • I reckon they'd get crushed against the walls in that space ship due to the large centifugal force.

  • theres more english space patrol on the tube just look!!

  • go to next no 3 at the bottom of this page for more of this.

  • go to next no 3 at the bottom of this page for more of this.

  • i think they used supermarionation on this.

  • Nobody believed me when I told them this show existed, now I have proof!!The sound track was very cool and still gives me goose bumps.Very cool Auspete

  • Oh thank you soooo much for posting this clip, I have been telling people about this for years and they look at me as if I,m crazy. I was eight when this was on and was fascinated by the whole thing, I even build my own space city.

  • Thanks auspete,I really enjoyed seeing this nostalgic production again after all these years. Fantastic mate.

  • Brilliant!! If it wasnt for the internet very few people would get another chance to see stuff like that!!

  • this is great stuff. I remember this as a kid along with Fireball Xl5. It tried to make intelligent kids sci fi stories.I was lucky enough to buy the full series on dvd from the official website a few years back. Now I believe sold out, very hard to find and now demands high prices.

  • Hee hee! I've got the full 20 minute episode of "The Miracle Tree of Saturn" on Super 8 Film.

  • Wow I never though I'd see it again and yes any clips of the gabbler would be great.

  • Totally mad

  • must have more - you have more? - please post more - I have been asking about this for 40 years or more - must have more - please post more

  • PLEASE can we have a clip of takeoff? The most famous thing about Space Patrol was the catchphrase "GAMMA RAYS ON. YOBBA RAYS ON.

  • I was 5yrs old when this was on TV. My favourite part was always when the Captain unleashed the Atom Gun (or was it the Ray Gun). Loved the series when it was on as much as FB XL5. Nice to see it again.

  • Is that the BT Tower I can see in the closiing titles? In 1963 it was still 3 years away from opening, but it' good to know it's still there in 2100AD!

  • Highly doubtful, since Space Patrol headquarters is New York! But there's always the possibility that one of the designers saw an early PO Tower drawing and thought it looked futuristic enough for inclusion.

  • Have you got any clips of Gabbler(the Gabblerdictim.)?

  • dontcha just love it!...dontcha... thanks

  • We were so lucky to to have seen this program!!!

  • Galasphere 347. Check it out on Google. Almost nothing. I was beginning to feel like I was the only one on Earth to remember it. Now I know it existed. Does any one remember the Shaddoks and the Geebies??

  • yes i do. i've been trying to find it for years, was beginning to think i imagined it.written and narrated by, i think, kenneth robinson?

  • have you had any luck finding the shaddocks, i haven't.i know it was on for 5 mins just before the 6 o'clock news but i am not even sure what channel.probably the BBC as kenneth robinson also presented points of view.also there is very little info about K.R.on the net.

  • I've been looking for this for years! Well done.

  • A National Interest Picture Production, was someone expecting an alien invasion? anyway it sure beats Twizzle.

  • "Scanner Viewer working"

    "Check"

    "Astro Beam working"

    "Check"

"Gamma Rays on, Yobba Rays on"

    Brilliant stuff!

  • Used to LOVE this show. It's a gas to see it again, thanks auspete!

  • this video is older than my oldest grandson.
