Just a quick note to all you young guys who think Mike Portnoy actually comes up with anything of his own. The solo lick in the middle is actually off a Neil Peart solo! Most of his other stuff comes from Terry Bozzio, Deen Castronovo and Steve Smith. By the way nice solo, just remember to work on soloing over foot ostinatos otherwise it's all a bit "linear" and don't forget to make music!

If you had to spend that kind of money on a kit, would by the Tama's again or do you wish you chose a different manufacturer? I am considering a Tama starclassic kit but have also thought about the PDP Platinum, Yamaha Recording customs and the Yamaha PHX as well.

If had the money, I'd go with the Sonor Delites. These things are crafted in Germany and they have very thin maple shells. But again that's if I had the money. They're about $4,000.

I really don't know. It was just an improvisation session so I just compiled a bunch of movements. But I think I got it from a Neil Peart or Mike Portnoy solo. So I hope this will answer your question.

Well I kind of forgot how they were tuned with these heads.

In the vid: Toms had Evans G2s on top and G1s on the bottom, bass drum has a superkick 2 on the batter and the stock head on the front.

Now: All toms have Aquarian heads on them and Aquarian Classic Clear on the bottoms; 10" has a Texture Coated on top, 12" & 16" have Super 2 Coated, and the bass drum has an Evans EMAD on the batter and the same stock head.

Now if I were you, I would get the Aquarians on the toms and snare drum. And for the bass drum, just stick with the EMAD 2.
