It's too bad that when magazines do their "100 Greatest Guitar Players" lists that Leo doesn't figure anywhere near the very top of the vote. He deserves to be thought of in the class with Hendrix, Django, Segovia, etc.
I was at this concert and I gotta say it wasn't what expected --- playing with his fingertips rather than picks seems to take away from his old style a little - it's a nice expressive sound, but I guess it's more that the tunes that have become a little more tame.. in my view anyway.
For anyone that hasn't got it, try and get your hands on the rare 'Live at NoExit' recordings... amazing.
I believe he used both all throughout his career(fingertip and finger-picks). I think this song just doesn't have the "thrill" that most of his older songs have(I yell At Traffic). I have to say I really like "Two Hands, One Guitar, No Vocals" album the best! I love that "syncopated"12-string style!!
He stopped playing the way he used to because he was tearing his hands apart. If he'd have kept it up then he wouldn't be playing at all today, and I'd rather have "tame" (though compared to the rest of us, his "tame" is pretty impressive) Leo to go and see than no Leo at all.
Leo's good at ducking - you have to stand in his blind spot to really hit the target! ;-} But yea, sometimes you have to settle for the brick walls. Since Leo's now a national treasure, can we use him to pay off the national debt?? ;0)
Hell this is the first time i've ever seen him play a 6 string guitar!! this guy is truly brilliant and genuinely nice too.

When did Leo start playing standing up?

Thank you! I had the exact same question. I've never seen him play standing up. Never.

He always did,in an interview he said the tv shows he would do would ask him to sit.
I think the interview is on youtube where he says that.

What do you throw them against? I personally like brick walls.

I've been a fan since high school art class in the early 70s, when my art teacher used to put on his albums while we drew.
I'll finally have my first chance to see him live when he comes to Port Townsand, WA in Oct.
What a treat it will be!!

I'll be going to that show too! Can't wait to see him live!
