  • Can anyone tell me where this interview is from please? the programme name, the year and who the presenters are please :) its useful for my dissertation. Thanks

  • Folk masses are groovy to the max.

  • 09:24 -- OMG, there it is: the beginning of tacky Catholic folk masses!

  • Kid may be a douche, but point to a teenager today who can articulate and debate on such a level.

  • @superhoga

<- I'm 18. that kid is a fucking retard. as if the US has any regard for international law

  • This kid (Niedermeyer?) excludes the middle option and thereby shows his own preference for destruction of property rights. The choices are not only to obey mindlessly or violently rebel. Preferable would be to put down the gun and walk away. Opt out. Simple.

  • i can't almost understand, i speak in spanish, and i justo know a little bit english but i can't understand what phil says!!! god!!! i want to know what he says!!!... cuz he face it's so... wow i can't describe it!

  • This kid is a fucking douche, simply put.

  • sorry I have no idea who the guy on the right is---i think the 2 guys asking the questions are a bit wacky

  • the guy on the left-----i have no idea who that is --but what a nut,,,,,,,im 53...and I just cant beleive the questiosn from him...phil oches is the singer-a great anti war singer...the guy on the right is Michael douglas...a TV host...I think.....

  • @greenwoodtea the guy on the right is murry the k a fast talking am dj and a smooth talking fm dj he was friends with phil ochs and jim and jean and had them on the radio and in his concerts with the blues project who recorded an electric version of i aint marching any more with phil ochs wich some people in this people world think was the first folk rock record

  • Don't you love how condescending that guy is to 'negros?'

  • @94lukepl That was actually the commonly accepted term back then--considered infinitely preferable to "colored" or the other "n" word. Use of the term "black" was just starting to be advocated, and "African American" wasn't on the horizon yet. I sometimes wonder how future generations will shake their heads at the terminology we currently consider PC.

  • I shudder at the self-righteousness of atheists as much as religious people. There's plenty of stupid atheists and lots of intelligent clerics. Yes, yes wars in the name of God litter human history. It was always for the same reasons though, just a different propaganda line to the common people.

    Always a Phil Ochs fan.

  • Atheists tend to be more educated and intelligent..and 94% of the creme de la creme scientist who belong to the National Academy of Science are Agnostics or Atheists.

God murders almost a million people, through the armies of Israel, in the Old Testament; God wants children who speak back to parents to be stoned to death and the same goes for those who work on the Sabbath. So there. By the way Phil's radical politics aside, he was a brilliant songwriter: When I'm Gone and Tape from Calif..

  • Cont. I have yet to find one study and yet 52% of the electorate will not vote for an Atheist as US president. Only 37% would not vote for Muslims and this study was done after 9/11. Here are some crime stats: 75% of the prisoners in US jails are thought to be believers and only .02% identify themselves as Agnostics or Atheists. (Actually non-believers commit most of the crime and devilishly pass it off onto religious people - ha).

  • Most people do not understand that it is better to do good for mankind, animals or yourself without expectation of heaven or avoidance of hell. If a religious person does good how do we know if it is not just not increase chances of getting into heaven.

All (mostly suppressed) studies show that non-believers are as moral, if not more moral, than believers. If anyone can find me a good study were Atheists, Agnostics or Secular Humanists are less moral than believers, let me know.

  • I wish all priests were like that. Now, it's like the Catholic Church has been infested with these people who have no clue about the true meaning of Christ. They just blindly advocate whatever they're commanding officers tell them to. Meanwhile, the Bishops and Cardinals continue to sit in their golden throne, telling the poor to "give 10% to feed the poor," and villainizing pro-choicers while defending the so-called "pro-lifers" who go to war and kill bron people. I'm a devout Catholic btw.

  • What song are they talking about?

  • That guy asking the questions is a paranoid schizophrenic asshole.

  • The Old Testament was written by the Levite priests (strongly influenced by the Babalonyian Brotherhood) whilst in captivity in Egypt....and much of that information was secret society code and should never have been taken literally!

  • 'Fighting for your Country' is government propoganda.....nothing more honourable than 'dying for your country' is bullshit!

Wars are engineered by governments to advance their own agendas....the common man is a manipulated, dispensible tool in that agenda....governments pay superficial lip service to their courage and patriotism....but to the governing elite, death means nothing as long as the agenda is enhanced and promoted

  • "I think it's a shame that negro music has been taken away from negroes because they are the only ones with something to protest about" ?????

The priest's comment was very intelligent.

  • Hey, that first guy asks the question... IT'S BILL O'REILLY, LOL!!!

  • What the first guy said is ironic because Billy Preston actually played keyboards on many Beatles tracks.

  • wtf is a priest doing in a live studio?? wouldn't he be too busy jacking off??

  • mancheromanchero, you have no taste whatsoever, you cunt. Have you ever heard of Oscar Romero? Shut your mouth, you ignorant bastard.

  • How have I missed this?!

  • omg that dude in the audience...what a character...bejeez give phil ochs a break...if he doesnt like phil's music let him tune into something else...pfft its all music at the end of the day

  • You won't get this from today's performers, eh?

  • wow!...unreal how different people thought back then...poor phil rest in peace

  • The main thing I notice is back then they had in idea of what was really going on but now, We are more informed,I would be curious to know where, this audiance member, is now.

  • what year was this from?

  • September 28, 1968.

But notice he says, "I wrote that song in the 60's....". Weird. But typically timeless Ochs.

  • Good on him for speaking up so clearly and strongly against that self-righteous nerd in the audience. He was so clear, so humble, so spot-on. I wonder where that questioning young fool is today - if he still stands by his comments re Viet Nam! He could've gone so far in politics/media if he'd just been able to hang on.

  • You're right but compare that guy to the people who criticize dissent today. At least he was respectful.

  • Gosh, talk about Brave...Imagine yourself as Phil Ochs, facing this audience...Ack, no thanks! Phil not only sang it, he lived it, didn't he?

  • Wow the host is none other than NY Boss Jock Murray the K!

What a trip as they used to say.

  • Ye rock mate! Thanks for sharing this stuff! Cant thank you enough.

    Cheers and Beers!

  • In hindsight we all should have had the foresight to listen more carefully to the words of the singing prophet. Phil saw exactly what was coming.

  • Thank you very much for posting one of my old-time favorites, jdachik. You know Phil must have gotten a kick out of being compared with the prophets of the Bible!

  • Many thanks for sharing this.

  • The priest who compared Phil to the Old Testament prophets was a bit of a prophet himself! The sad thing is, can you imagine anyone from the right-wing on TV today being as civil to someone like Phil as the other guest and the "establishment" kid were? How many times would Bill O'Reilly have told Ochs to "shut up!" and accused him of aiding the enemy and being a terrorist? We have fallen so far in the 40 years since this show first aired. Thank you for posting this gem.

  • Good point (and a cool YouTube ID name if you are talking about Mary Surratt).

  • Thanks. Yes, Mary Surratt, the first woman ever executed by the federal government, is a partial inspiration for my name. And agree, you can tell Phil loved the "clergy bopper's" prophet comment!

  • Thanks for these posts with Phil
