  • a special thanks to George Bush for the commentary

  • Do you live in an area with high humidity? And if so are you seeing wood rot?

  • I hope you have better success. But BASF SPRAYTITE has been a closed cell foam from hell for us. An applicator in SC purchased the SPRAYTITE® polyurethane foam materials from a supplier near Charlotte, NC. The applicator applied it in Feb 2011 to our garage ceiling. After a week it started smelling like fish. After five months the applicator removed about 60% of it and resprayed it.

The new application has less odor. But the garage still smells. I wish we had never used this product.

  • @TheTxeng We never had a problem with odor. Just the sorry job they did of spraying it. We had to get them to came back and re spray a lot of spots that were not done right. But it has never made our house smell.

  • @TheTxeng I'm sorry there are so many hacks out there ...i am a spray foam tech and when a spray guy sprays the foam to heavy or of ratio you should contact BASF and let them know what compony did your job.

  • @TheTxeng

How thick was the foam applied? The only time you would get a fishy smell from the foam is when it is applied too thick. If Closed Cell foam is sprayed thicker than 2.5-3 inches at a time, it will start to burn itself from the heat it produces. That smell will be very hard to remove. Again, the fishy smell is a result from an inexperienced foam applicator, not from the manufacturer. If you have any questions, feel free to message me.

  • bullsht job

  • @superwhiz88 why is it bullshit? coz it looks million times better than the sidewalk u & ur family sleeps on every night? the ppl of ur country would save millions on taxes getting rid of scum trash like you baboons!

  • That's a real shitty pattern that guy has...I'm a foamer and I'd lay it on nicer blindfolded...He should try cleaning his tip with a pin-vise....

  • @dinodemario Yeah, we had to get them to come back and redo a lot of spots. They were not the best.

  • UMMM that fresh air mask dosen't look like the one i wear .......WTF a bag and vacuum ?

  • Is that Comfort Foam?

  • HI There,

Is this BASF Comfort Foam insulation?

  • HI there,

Do you know if this is BASF Comfort Foam insulaltion? (Closed cell?)

  • I'm getting this sprayed on the underside of my floor in the crawlspace to prevent mold and because the old fiberglass got wet. Dirt crawl spaces, BAD IDEA.

  • that is a bad bad spray job. proper spray practices for closed cell has a 80% overlap. and is flat and smooth. you can;t see all the passes like in yours. he is also spray too hot to achieve a better yield of the product. And to a trained eye you ca see that he has 0 gel time of the foam. it is already in its cream stage before it hits the substrate! what this means is that you have elongated cell structure. lower r-value. As for starting on fire it can. there is a exo thermic reaction.

  • @panner276 Yeah, After they were through, me and my Dad looked it over pretty good, and we ended up calling them back, and having them go back over a lot of spots.

They really tried to cheat us under the house, I guess they didn't figure we would get under there, and check it.

I would highly recommend closed cell foam, but I would not recommend that anyone hire this company to do it.

But we made sure they got it right before we paid them.

  • @unpicked1 But even though they did do a crappy job of spraying it, it still is a WHOLE lot easier to cool the house than when we had fiber glass insulation.

We can keep the house at 74, even on days when it gets over 100, before, if it got to 100, we were lucky to keep it below 81, and the AC would have to run non stop to do it.

But now, even on the hottest days, it doesn't have to go non stop to keep it at 74.

  • WELL DID IT CUT YOUR POWER BILLS?

  • @rdesear Yeah, it helped. We are finally able to keep the house cool when it gets in the 100. last year, when it got up to 100, we were lucky to keep it at 80 in the house. Now we can keep it at 74, and the ac doesn't have to run non stop to do it.

  • D1incharge is obviously a !/2 lb open cell installer. I can assure yo that closed cell foam was the right product. As far as air exchange thats over rated there is no such thing as a 100% closed house. To correct one statement on the video, the closed cell will not increase the strenght 300%. will increase the racking load 125%

  • @MrChemicalguru I beg to differ with your claim that is only adds 125% racking load. I know 2 lb has shown 300% load raking improvement over typical 2x4 construction or 2x6 for that matter. I agree with you that 1/2 pound installer because he starts from the bottom up and doesn't have a good spray technique for 2 pound spray foam. They also don't have much knowledge of temperture setting of 2lb. I assume they are spraying hotter cuz 1/2 is applied at much warmer temperatures.

  • practise with whipped cream can and two twinkies... (in echo voice) TRAINING COMPLETE!!!!!!

  • it does not catch on fire if you spray too much!. what happens is that if you spray too much it will expand past the cavity and need to be trimmed

  • Yes it does. It as it expands, it causes heat.

Closed cell does not expand past the cavity, at least if you spray it right it is not suppose to.

Open cell does expand past the cavity, and then needs to be trimmed.

But either one will start a fire if you spray an extreme amount in one spot.

The guys that did this for a living said so.

  • they lied didnt they.......cut those bills in more than half huh? Makes your walls stronger huh........ ever had wall failure? That is one of their dumbest sales points. I hope they didnt use that closed cell in a warm climate on the inside of your walls(your accent is definetly not northern. What did you do for ceiling and crawlspace insulation? DId you change out your HVAC? If they foamed the roof and crawlspace, did they use a blower door to make sure you had enough fresh air coming in?

  • @d1incharge Your wrong, Today it has got up to 104, we have been able to get it to 74 inside AND the air conditioner has cut off. Last year before we foamed the house it would of never cut off on a day like this, it would of ran all day long nonstop, and probably only cooled the house down to 82.

It's an amazing product, and if I ever build a house of my own, I will use it.

So, I just wanted you to know that you don't know what your talking about.

  • looks like the dude have some fun foaming your walls man. Good to see you are doing well bro. take it easy.

  • I think it would be a horrible job to have during the hot summer, thankfully for him, it wasn't to hot that day.

  • Looks awesome! :D When he was spraying the foam, it looked almost fake when the blue hit the wood. LOL!

  • Wow there's a big step. Gonna be cozy warm this winter.

    Be Well.

  • We had termite and water damage through almost the entire house. So we had to rip out almost all the insulation any way.

We basically had to rebuild the house, LOL.

It cost a good bit more than pink fiberglass insulation, but should pay off in the long run.

  • >> hemmmmm perhaps we should try that

  • Wow hope it helps lots. :)

  • Neat.

  • hmm this seems like something from a sci-fi movie

what happens in you incase someone in it?
