Peter had a sex change as a kid and was known as Olive. Walter ,hating his gender bender son, stole alter-Peter so he could have a normal son. And I mean normal in every sense of the word.

Wait! remember when the guy with the head on his stomach and extra limbs in the beginning of the episode said the date? maybe the combo was the date, wait no i think he said july but you cant be sure.

@FluffyFeralMarmot I think she said she saw a "glow" rather than a glimmer...kind of like a haze around them. I don't think she has that gift. But then again, she could have something similar. She thought she saw something, but then dismissed it as the sunshine at his back. Who knows why they do what they do....
remember how the observer (september) had saved peter and walter from them drowning in a freezing lake when their car drove off a road? they must be dead in the other universe. now that the universes are coming together peter may be lost in the other universe. he also may die again in the process of traveling to another universe. eventually walter may dissapear too
I think Peter #1 (our world) did die and Walter being heart broken opened the door and took Peter #2 to our world, and by doing that leaving a gap where things are slipping through and people in the alternate reality are trying to get in. Rememer Newton said "In my world, all the trees and scenery are gone" or something like that? I think that was a clue that their world is being destroyed & r trying to come here... IDK this show really makes me think! Either was I love it!

@elizze6 Nah, Peter glimmers because he is from the alternate universe. The real Peter died so Walter took the alernate universe Peter. This is revealed in an earlier episode.

I meant that the druggie woman (Rebecca) who could see people glimmer only saw shape shifters glimmer, not people from the other universe in general. So then she wouldn't see if Peter glimmered because he's not a shape shifter. Only Olivia and other people treated with Cortexiphan can see things all things from the other universe glimmer.

I think she only saw a glimmer around shape shifters, not people from the other universe.
