empirical evidence does not have to be conducted by experts... experts are just better at describing their empirical evidence using the accepted scholarly terminology and basing their observations on the accepted theories of others like Weber... a famous sociologist, for example. That's all... so you bein' there for 8 fuckin years counts in my book brother!
4% of the population are sociopaths. In the current military with continual rotation in combat tour of duties I think the percentage has to be lot higher just because people volunteer knowing they will be in a war zone. I am sure the military test people but they will never devulge the results to the general public.
My dad went to three wars. He was not a sociopath. Your talking about learning behaviors of survival etc...that is just not the same thing. Read: Malignant Self Love.
It is extremely accurate at describing sociopath/psychopath. Again, I am sure that there are many people that have seen or lived through horrible events. If your assessment is true then why, after three wars did my dad not become a sociopath? Why after two wars did my best friends husband not become a sociopath. Your Wrong.
@MsDezzyzRayz Everyone's different. I've known people that were fine for most of their lives, and something, somehow they "were changed". People that go to prison, don't come out the same, many of them adopt a new lifestyle, that teaches to dominate, lie, manipulate, steal, and backstab to win, there's no love in prison. Some drug users fall in the same trap. Just because your dad and best friend's husband didn't go antisocial doesn't mean they all dont.
The military can't breed sociopaths? Yeah right, one of the contributing factors of antisocial personality disorder is environment and experience. I think if you kill enough people or watch enough of your buddies getting killed, you're going to have some mental issues down the road, not everyone is able to handle them properly. Traumatic experiences I'm quite sure can do the trick.
@Count Symphonic The true sociopath is created early in the third year of life and it is thought to be due to their parents not loving them appropriately. Either no love or to much love. That is where is begins. It does not mean that the Military cannot exacerbate a persons sociopathy. My ex never went to war and he was diagnosed as a sociopath. Going to war just does not create a sociopath. Impossible.
Being a sociopath/anti-social disorder is a "personality disorder." Not a mental/mood disorder. There is no cure. Many socio's can con there ways into high levels of society like government/wall street etc. Then their r the ones who r not so smart, but all r lacking the ability to bond with another person, and relationships r soley based on what can be gained.
Wow, there is just a ton of disinformation here! :) Sociopathy is not just in childhood! lol
A pscyhopath is just about the same thing as sociopath, and they do no right and wrong. PTSD is not sociopathy. Being pscyhotic, is not a sociopath. Being psychotic is losing complete touch w/reality. Socio's no exactly who they are targeting, and why they r targeting someone, for self gain in someway. Being a tough guy does not mean ur a sociopath.
Well said. I am amazed that people still fall for this sociopaths/psychopaths are "unwell people" bullshit. They are fucking monsters who live in human bodies and are fully aware of EVERYTHING they are doing.
The only cure for sociopathy/psychopathy is cancer.
@nonearthlychildren How is your solution not sociopathic in nature itself? Decades ago people felt the same way towards schizophrenics, bi-polar and etc. and today more or less there are cures and treatments. Psychopathy should be examined the same way any other mental/ personality disorder and a medical solution should be found. + if the the people who say that psychopaths are born not made are right then how could they be fully aware of what they are doing? It's the only thing they know.
u wouldI need to have about 26 out of 40 traits to b a sociopath. If u r making this up, u probably r a sociopath. I think alot of people in the army r suffering PTSD, which is not the same thing ofcourse. Sociopathy starts in childhood. There is a ton of indoctrination that soldiers go threw which does not make them sociopathic. PTSD can lead to anger, nightmares, apathy, feeling numb, hatred, flashbacks. Its serious, and vets need support for this to get better.
They are both the same thing. Just two different terms. But its the same. In the olden days they were called Morally Insane - which I thik is an excellent term in many ways.
I know use the term "Demonic Sociopath Entities" which Transociopathica came up with. It's a perfect discription for these things.
The thing is that Sociopaths feel no empathy, remorse or PTSD.
The dirty secret in all military history is that troops do everything to not kill each other. They will deliberatly miss or try to hit the legs if they can. They will only kill the enemy if an officer is in charge. This is something all military strategists have long known. Humans are not killers by choice. This is why all military seek out and promote the sociopaths/psychopaths to command and officer level. Look it up all true.
If you were really in Recon I doubt 100% that you are a psychopath/sociopath. Now if you are lying about being in Recon you would share a very common trait among psychopaths/sociopaths.
BUT...the military DOES use them to carry out brutal missions, and our society in general glorifies violence. This makes existing psychopaths much more likely to act out in violence...
Beginning at around age nine "while the brain is still in it's development stages" humans can Manifest. Manifestation leads to Sociopath behavior and Sociopath behavior can lead to Psychopath behavior.
Your probably thinking about either PTSD or the whiners who join the military just to be tough but they can't hack it afterwards so hence they behave like jerks next and wind up conditioning themselves with a kind of personality disorder aka a hair across their ass.
Sociopath behavior is simular to Dissociative Disorders. It occurs only in children.
Sociopathy behavior is a manifestation created by the individual.
Sociopathy symptoms begin at approximately age nine and the manifestation of it can last up until age eighteen. Afterwards, during a Sociopaths life they can improve and refine their socio type behavior specialties.
No, the military cannot breed Sociopaths/Psychopaths.
The military though can give some psychopaths a bit of what they truly want and that is the ability to kill for fun without having to go to jail for it.
i agree with that analysis. I was in the USMC and I asked this question, because I noticed my violence level increased and became unpredictable to others.

I would bet it creates quite a few. Just because not everyone becomes sociopathic, doesn't mean all don't.

The military only feeds their need for power and control. It does not create the sociopath but it is food for their lack of true ego.

No offence, but you sound like someone destroyed by drugs!
Psychopaths/sociopaths aside, they're all probably much more intelligent than you!
