@RichardElden : Don't care, never did. Though you are obviously a homophobe since you use it to support your attempts to discredit Mr. Burton. Also, clearly your arrogance and desperate need to be "paid attention to" disallowed you from absorbing my kind invitation to stop bothering me with your unnecessary and valueless opinions. So go crawl back under your little rock, stick your thumb back in your mouth and go away. Thanks much and toodles.
@RichardElden : I'm guessing that you are quite the expert on that particular activity. Nice job, btw not defending your mother's honor. please take this as a last civil request to not address me directly any further.
Burton was a very talented actor with such a cool voice. his voice was really 'bad-ass' and poetic at the same time. i read that people back then often argued which kinds of actors are better: method actors (brando, clift, etc.) or classical actors (olivier, gielgud, burton, etc.) i think they are all great, in their own ways. i think it's great to watch a combination of those acting-styles, for example: Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier in Marathon Man.
@RichardElden : he has many awards, look them up. He did not win an oscar, but has many more nominations. Frankly, I'm neither impressed with Olivier nor Gielgud. His Hamlet was god awful for me. To be glad someone dies cause you don't like their acting only shows what a miserable, ignorant, arrogant fuckhead you are. Go crawl back under your rock troll.
@KellyGreen5555 : Tis strange. You run into a lot of ignorant armchair scholars and cowards in these places. People with a lot to say, nothing to prove it, and a pretentious self image that disallows them to see their own prejudice. I surmise that in these types of cases his "grudge" is based on some strange personal ideal. Perhaps many years ago RichardEldens mother was a whore working in an airport that Burton passed through and he failed to tip her after a quickie in the mens room.
@MrSuperbombastik Yes, Burton was nominated seven times (the first for Best Supporting Actor in "My Cousin Rachel" with Olivia De Havilland, the other six for Best Actor). And that nasty quote by Montgomery Clift just happened to be from Kitty Kelley's nasty bio of Elizabeth Taylor. So the credibility of that quote is highly questionable.
@RichardElden : That's hilarious. Burton's career completely dwarfs Clift's. Burton has 5 times the awards, nearly twice as many Oscar nominations. Something else he did that MC did not is have a tremendous stage career. Which is likely why he had the delivery style that Clift did not understand. And please, don't bore us with the "what could have been" crap; that's part of life. Others have worked around worse. That kind of talk is usually a sign of hidden envy and in poor taste.
@RichardElden No..He gave his performances tonnes of conviction, and a raw masculine magnetism rarely scene on the stage, and on screen. He was phenomenal as Prince Hal in Henry IV. A very soulful, but insecure actor. I'd agree that the cigarettes and alcohol got the best of him, toward the last decade or so of his life. Turned him into something of a caricature of his former self.
He also paid for the education of leagues of impoverished children from his home town, as Melvyn Bragg attests.
@RichardElden ; Whatever, ass. What have you ever done that qualifies your opinion other than just your ignorant prejudice toward the accepted norm and arrogant "rights" to have an opinion???
You people are out of your damned minds. Bad actor? Are you kidding? This man has forgotten more about acting than Gene Hackman will every know. I love Hackman, but please. He's exactly the same guy in everything he does. I have seen Burton read the phone book in the style of a Shakespearean play and he is astonishing. Brilliant man, terrible loss too soon.
Richard Burton, Peter o'Toole (giving the award to Burton) and Richard Harris ( o: 50) all in the same picture and I think they are buddies. Love them all, special one to Mr O'Toole :) He's a Badass!
@RichardElden excuse me but you are too young for saying that!
