To correct some miss information in some posts......The fuel used is Ammonium Perchlorate Composite Propellant or APCP. The exhaust contains mostly water, carbon dioxide, hydrogen chloride, and aluminium oxide. That said, environmentalists should not worry about these rocket motors destroying the environment as they don't light them off every day, and should instead direct their efforts to save the world by getting catalytic converters put on those nasty polluting volcanoes. : )
