Actually watch the entire video before commenting, where did she say the government would fix everything? Examples from video: The corporations are larger than the government, that is why the man representing the government is cleaning the man who facades the corporations. Another example: George Bush asks everyone to shop more; he is part of the government, therefore she keeps stating how the government is part of the problem, not that it will fix everything.
@2411Hellokitty If you were to write an essay you would receive an utter failure as a mark because you gave no examples whatsoever. If you would like to appease others and agree with you, you need to come up with a real argument. In this video a lot of the words are simplified in order to target a wide audience. It is blatantly obvious that this video is not intended to show all the facts and figures since this is a video...
@TheAceForce LOL I did watch the entire video. Also, I'm not writing an essay I'm making a comment on a youtube video. How does she recommend that we fix things other than create legislation? Seems blatant to me that she wants the government to fix these problems which makes my comment quite reasonable. Maybe you weren't paying enough attention and need to watch it again.
@2411Hellokitty ...Which is why I find your statement quite hypocritical. If you truly wanted to explore the true nature of the topic at hand, then why are you even watching a YouTube video of all sources? Seems plenty stupid to me. Further, you ignore everything you side with just because of a fault that does not even exist within the video(fail listening skills)? E.g. if 2+2=4 and 2x1=3, since 2x1=3, according to your logic, you would just dismiss 2+2=4? What the fuck man.
@2411Hellokitty @19:20 She discusses taking back American government. How would the government even fix everything if according to her, you guys' have not even taken it back yet? LOL. I got an assignment to watch this video. Upon opening it I see the annoying logical fallacy lady... I do NOT want to subject myself to this stupidity, but alas, college isn't about logic. It's about feelings.
Wouldn't really mind when the world goes to complete trash so i can say to the people who disliked this video or said this is stupid " She told you so".
So, all I got from this video, is that she thinks the government should support us. We are FORCED to follow fashion and fads because no one has a mind/opinion of their own. We are brainwashed by corporations to shop during our free time against our will.
Scare tactics abound in this video.
If you're going (or need) to watch this video watch the critique as well. The critique presents facts and explanations for everything that is used in this video to scare people.
Or you people opposing this video and claiming she's trying to turn kids into radical left wingers are just close minded fucks, I'm in high school and I can tell you 97% of the students are all either democrats or republican, they don't even know what they stand for, those are the only two they know of, radicals? HA. And why don't you all get past this and actually take the point of this video which is here to wake people up about what's happening to the earth and the people?
i use less than 4.5 lbs of trash a day....like 2 paper plates (or i just use regular ones and put them in the dishwasher) and a few paper towels, and a couple of other kitchen stuff that doesnt add up to....and theres nothing wrong with my computer, im not getting a new one! & at 14:00 why dont people just buy 1 pair of fat heals and 1 pair of skinny ones?
This lady is retarded and her facts come straight out of her ass this video is a joke and is used to indoctrinate school kids into radical left wingers like their public school corrupt union teachers, that's the exact intention of this video and the radical progressives created it for that purpose.
@snowboardrdude You're a passionate man Snow Boarder Dude. Put that left wing, hippie, tree hugger back in her place with her environmentally responsible advice. ; )
I've been hearing this same message for over 40 years. From the Apocalyptic Evangelicals to the Environmental Hippie movement saying the End is Near! Population 7 billion strong globally and still never a statement about overpopulation which is the real issue --but humans want babies. Whatta gonna do?
This video is chalk-full of fallacies. WATCH THE CRITIQUE - this video is completely torn apart. This idiotic woman is poisoning the minds of millions of students with her deceptive statistics.
In the first 5 minutes:
The Defense Budget is 20% of the budget, not 50%
96% of forests are not "gone," only 25% are
The statistics about our water supplies "becoming" undrinkable is patently false (most have always been this way)
And 1/3rd of America's resources have not been used up
@retownsend Depends what source you get your figures from. The budget of the Department of Defense is indeed around 20%, but this figure doesn't cover total military expenditure. Things as varied as nuclear arms research, veterans benefits, interest on national debt created by military spending bump up that percentage quite significantly.
@retownsend Furthermore, your income tax only goes into the federal funds part of the budget, which does not include trust funds such as social security, which is raised separately from income tax. But when the Government announces the budget, they combine both federal funds and Trust funds. A unified budget. However, Trust funds are not part of the Congressional Spending Authority, so those percentages are somewhat misleading as they make the human needs percentage of the budget seem larger.
People who have critical “points” to make about this video should keep in mind that its intention is not to hurt us but to enlighten us so that we may take self-corrective measures before we burn in the hell that we inevitably created for ourselves
These videos intend to protect us from and enlighten us against liars... by lying themselves. We should be educated into self corrective measures, not scared.
To be honest I found the delivery a little condescending, I'm 44 not 4 and being talked down to in a sing song kind of way gets a bit tiresome after a few minutes, but the message is very interesting.
I have a 4 year old daughter. I work two jobs so that her mother doesn't have to work. I imagine them spending their days at the beach, running through fields, growing a veggie patch, doing volunteer work, learning about selflessness.... Alas, this is a fantasy. It's middle class suburbia and they spend their time at the mall consuming toddler products... Indoctrination starts young!
Brilliant, time to wake up people, I probably won't bother having kids because I wouldn't want to subject them to the consequences of the way we live.
@TheChosenOne3333 I came here because I wanted to use the linear process animation as my facebook banner. I saw the video in my Environmental Sustainability class (taught by the most epic teacher ever).
You doubt that designed obsolescence and the societal pressure to confirm don't drive our consumer economy?
Well I won't play ball any longer. I will not be manipulated dammit!.... Fortunately, my folks spoil me and gifted me with the latest Apple for my birthday. : ) For the next couple of months at least, I'm hip again.
Let's allow some poetic license here. I think the point about computers is quite apt. I only have a computer to check my emails and surf a little soft porn, but after owning it for a few years, it can't do squat. Freezes up and is no longer compatible with any software upgrades. Now I can't even watch YouTube on it anymore without the required upgrade which it's incapable of doing. Furthermore, I'm derided by my friends for persisting with such an antiquated pile of crap.
The comment about computers advancing is completely uninformed. Even though it's "only one little piece that changes each year" (the CPU), all of the other parts of the computer (the mother board, the ram) won't work with the new CPU, not as a result of intentional design, but because the old hardware is too slow for the new hardware. Also, most computers do usually last a long time, but people need faster ones to accomplish more in their lives. You preach education? Get educated yourself.
What is this crap! How is the left supposed to be respected if we keep coming up with this. There are so many inconsistencies and straw man arguments and some of the comments here are so ignorant.
80 years ago they died of congenital diseases, infectious diseases, and injuries. The death rate due to cancer went up after seat belts were made standard in cars, but not because seat belts cause cancer. You have to die of something--once other causes are avoided cancer becomes the default.
Most people are easily pushed into a state of fear because they too often forget who is actually in control here on Earth. God took every thought for man and his other breathing creations when he created this world. True he said that man would bring about his own destruction but he meant through his wicked and sinful ways. Through war and hate.. not the use of the planets resources. LOL
@annedecock Shut the fuck up you politically correct retard. this isn't real and the corporations aren't trying to conquer the world. and the government isn't spending anywhere close to 50% on military.
@ProfeshenulRedneck Sounds like you're more likely the retard here...Corporations are pulling the strings on politics, the erosion of civil liberties and war. Go watch some nascar and leave the commenting to adults, son.
@toekneeeyeoweme i'm guessing your one of the assholes who wants to tax the fuck out of the successful? wow..... guess who is really retarded. and the redneck one classical and if you didn't guess by the name i figuered you would call me that. how about you leave the commenting to the intellectuals you brainwashed piece of shit. and the government isn't pouring tax dollars to the military it's around 15% over twice that is going to welfare programs. look it up asshole
@toekneeeyeoweme Fine be fucking retarded i don't care, SON. if anyone who has juvenile insults it is you SON. cause all you can do is attack with a lame ass joke insult my credibility and say SON. at the end. get a life and research this "stuff" and you will be suprised how inaccurate this shit is.
@ProfeshenulRedneck As of 2010, the military budget was 20% of the total federal budget or $689 billion. The budget for welfare programs is also 20%, or $701 billion. Try math. Its funny how you think the other people are brainwashed :D
@TheKimJoel Me? look up the pie chart dumass its lower than 20%! and 1:58 need i say more?! the Military uses a little less than 15% while welfare and healthcare (and howmany other stupid ass programs) use over 29%! are you retarded?!!! and you said you did the math :P
@HAppy77Dude wow.... you are retarded... and i'd like to see you walk in those waste lands.... but no i can't i'm to busy destroying the enviornment and making governments bow before my almighty presence. seriously... you are a fucking moron.
This is true, the system is really corrupted and all of you that are saying this is "shit" and "we have enough resources", well I'm sorry to tell you, you're idiots influenced by consumption.
There appears to be overwhelming support for the video using the like button but the comments seem to be standoffish. I find this interesting because she did not say anything offensive. She asked us to look at our current behaviours and asked that we make changes to make them sustainable through reduced consumption and improving the efficiency of the materials economy. Why is this offensive? Capitalism != consumerism.
The decision to consume or not lies with us, but imagine that: Some people are easily influenced?! Marketing, peer-pressure? It suggests that we have to buy stuff to feel good.
I know that we don't have to, and personally I don't, but instead of being motivated to consume we should be taught and motivated to not consume as much as we do. And no one can deny that fact that the resources will run out at one point.
20 minutes of propaganda. Although she might be right about a handful of things, she misses the mark for the most part. The whole premise would assume that every manufacturer in the world was in on the same conspiracy. That Chinese and Japanese computer manufacturers purposely made their computers to become obsolete every 3 years. Her statistics were terribly flawed as well.
Wait..national happiness? Is that a real legit thing? kind of doubt it. and fyi, Annie Leonard, people can update their own computer each year, some just choose to throw the old out and buy the new. Its all about free will and what a person wants to do, not because some damn corporation tells us to. And the shoe thing, I'm not a woman, but come on, grow some will power and be happy with what you've got. I'm also pretty sure most of those statistics you used are quite untrue.

Wow this presents some really important issues. The part that I most appreciated was the introduction of solutions possible to help fix the problems being created by the big businesses.
This and another work by James Howard Kunstler, "Back To The Future," really hit home with me. It makes you think and really question why I bought my MacBook Air in the first place.
Whau gratitude for the production of this video! Sentences and thoughts and facts presented in a calm and rational way, that's what we need! Enough with aliens and comets, we really need to get our shit together!!!
This is a pretty skewed version of our story, and if the whole story isn't told, it comes off as another "Human beings all suck and should die so the planet can be pure again". I'm into reduce/reuse/recycle, and this video acts like none of that ever happens.
The biggest lies must be served with ample amounts of truth mixed in. Yes, consumerism is unnecessary. Obsolescence is avoidable. Local manufacturing, local production, local banking, and small business of quality not junk cheap international goods are better choices.
Central banks run by the elite dictate these policies and programs, all to create a crisis and offer a false solution of global control
Climate change, artificial scarcity, central banks are fabricated crisis
It is the Global Billionaires who own through their banks and holding companies all of the largest global corporations. They are exploiting and polluting by design. Not only to consolidate wealth but to take control of society through One World Banking and Government
The world is not consuming the worlds resources at this rate. Although improvement in management could be made
Computers do not have built-in obsolescence based on the only CPU (upgradeable) but the entire motherboard. NONSENSE
Earth has exceptional resources for land, atmostphere, plant life and wildlife, rare metals, petroleum, and even nuclear power sources.
The scarcity game being played is a GEORGE SOROS (BILLIONAIRE) PROPONENT OF ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT where the banking establishment and techno elite will dictate the allocation of resources to everyone else, cutting off the supply to reduce population, voluntarily or even involuntarily.
What complete nonsense. Government is not to take care of and look after society. That is the responsibility of adults in society: for themselves, their family and community.
The role of government is to represent the people and administer specific task in society, accountable to all citizens, necessary for law (e.g. sheriff, courts, defense, and MINIMAL ACTIVITY. All other rights belong directly to the people and their local government.
@m19ulloa So if it costs, for example, $100 of energy to produce a new computer, but the new computer saves $10 of energy over its lifetime compared with the old computer by being more energy-efficient, that is "less resources wasted"? Give me a break.
Also humans grow exponentially, so even if we follow her cycle, there will be too many people to sustain. we are gonna need those resources, and when we do, bye bye Earth. but thats life I guess
2: as her points are dramatically worded and said in a way that makes you think she really believes what she's saying, and is extremely enthusiastic about persuading others.
1: The simplicity of the visuals and of the speaker's appearance contrasts with her strongly opinionated tone, allowing her persuasive techniques to stand out. Also, the fact that the speaker could take such a complicated issue and boil it down to a simple chain of events makes her seem like she understands what she's talking about. (Though on the other hand, it could make her seem like she's oversimplifying the issue.) She definitely appeals to the audience's emotions,
Part two: She incorporates this with a slippery slope effect. She continues to describe the damaging and harmful consequences and how they will grow based on Americans ignorance of this problem. She scares her audience with a world of nothing but pollution, trash, and unhappiness. I believe the video was very successful in terms of persuasion. It is a perfect example of putting a point across and supporting it and very representative of this class in general.
Part one: Visually, the first thing I noticed about this video was the very plain qualities it contained. The narrator's clothing, the stick figures, and the overall lack of color helped me to focus on the actual objective of this video. The woman uses many different persuasive techniques to suck her audience in. The most beneficial method was cause and effect. She took listeners step by step through the consuming process explaining the effects of certain actions our society takes daily.
Part Three: covered. Seeing the destroyed Earth and the polluting factory throughout the presentation forces the audience to keep every issue in mind. Overall, the animations had less flaws than the speaker, but the speaker's flaws would be hard to pick out if you weren't educated in persuasive techniques.
Part Two: she can redefine it in a way that will help her argument. I noticed the speaker used the logical fallacy of slippery slope very often. She starts out with a situation and uses process analysis to go through a chain reaction of events that she exaggerates into an unrealistic outcome. While the speaker isn't entirely persuasive, the animation is exceptionally persuasive. I noticed the band of animations above the speaker makes sure the audience doesn't forget what was previously
Part One:The first thing I noticed was the ethos of the speaker in the video. Her appearance makes her look average and her voice sounds friendly. Visually, she is welcoming the audience as an equal. Her tone has that "are you going to let them get away with this" feel to it, but she makes sure not to sound out right angry. Her argument would seem appealing to someone not educated in rhetoric. She uses definition to sneak in her own twist on the truth. She defines things in such a way that
PART 2: most is the topic of the argument. She does not do a good job in persuading you. She is not very professional, she tries to connect to the audience by talking on a "even-level" bases and tries to befriend the audience. This is a lousy topic. You use this strategy if you know your argument is bad and has many fallacies and many holes. Her point of view is weak, she is not a good speaker, and her argument is a failure. The topic is good, and can draw a well heated discussion but not today
PART 1: The speaker used several different persuading techniques to get her point across. The main one would be using POD techniques..which one??? All of them! The speaker uses each POD in her argument. The simple ones would be Narration, Persuasion, Process, and Definition. You can clearly see her narrating, she is saying this argument to persuade you, she shows the process of the consumer cycle, and she defines every word she says. The key POD in this group would be Persuasion, for this is the
The speaker made use of several techniques to get her point across. The largest one was along the lines of repetition. This technique was forwarded with the help of diction, and slanting the wordings to get her desired effect. At times the speaker’s bias got in the way of her persuasion, this occurred mainly at times of her attacking an issue, which wasn’t really the most important issue. and @andallthatRush bro it's just a Ap lang assignment on persuasion, calm down.
The creators of this video used lots of repetition to get their points across. Repeating words like toxic, waste, and resources were key parts of their argument. Both toxic and waste create negative connotations in the reader's mind that make us better see the harm we are doing to both ourselves and the environment. There were a lot of stats used within this video, especially talking about America's past consumption. The assumption is that viewers want a world similar to in Americas golden age.
This woman uses a few different techniques to persuade the viewer. A few that she uses in her speaking, are techniques of POD; description and definition. They are similar, but they both work to aid her argument. She also uses techniques that show in both her speaking, but also the graphic in the background. Here, she uses process and cause and effect. Her use of cause and effect is the strongest in the video. Together, all of the techniques used help to solidify and help her argument.
The first and most potent is the Argumentum ad Misericordiam. She manipulates the listener’s emotions to think personally, to focus on the sad state that certain processes put people in, rather than attacking that process.Next, equivocation. She is able to use terminology not common to most people, and then defines it to her own advantage. It sets up the Straw Man Fallacy. Once having defined words with her own clearly negative connotation, the speaker can attack the argument with far more ease.
@9herecomesthesun thats kind of common knowledge and if you do need to discect the words then you can ...because to be on youtube you have to have access to a computer so i dont see why the terminology is the issue.....its not like she is trying to infer something totally out of the question i mean we all can see or hear of this happening around us and if not then you must live on some other planet
12:21 uhh if you didnt know lady, the U.S government has gone to the steps of implementing agenda 21 through executive order carried out by the president himself of course (the only one who can give out an executive order) so how is it that out nations, infact 193 nations main priority is NOT sustainability? please answer.
this is UN agenda 21 for sustainable development. the rule of law bush talked about, nothing more. mengekyo2001 is right, we WILL be FORCED to change. if you are ok with that, GOD help you for you know not where they lead you.
Well....... Smoke em' if you got em' .. lets go out with a boom!! ...

This video is chalk-full of fallacies. WATCH THE CRITIQUE - this video is completely torn apart. This idiotic woman is poisoning the minds of millions of students with her deceptive statistics.
In the first 5 minutes:
The Defense Budget is 20% of the budget, not 50%
96% of forests are not "gone," only 25% are
The statistics about our water supplies "becoming" undrinkable is patently false (most have always been this way)
And 1/3rd of America's resources have not been used up
STOP THIS IDIOT!!
retownsend 1 week ago
@retownsend Depends what source you get your figures from. The budget of the Department of Defense is indeed around 20%, but this figure doesn't cover total military expenditure. Things as varied as nuclear arms research, veterans benefits, interest on national debt created by military spending bump up that percentage quite significantly.
K4Kelso 1 week ago
@retownsend Furthermore, your income tax only goes into the federal funds part of the budget, which does not include trust funds such as social security, which is raised separately from income tax. But when the Government announces the budget, they combine both federal funds and Trust funds. A unified budget. However, Trust funds are not part of the Congressional Spending Authority, so those percentages are somewhat misleading as they make the human needs percentage of the budget seem larger.

@retownsend I'll deal with the other figures later. For now though, I've gotta get ready for work. Mouths to feed. : )

Also, the fact that the speaker could take such a complicated issue and boil it down to a simple chain of events makes her seem like she understands what she's talking about. (Though on the other hand, it could make her seem like she's oversimplifying the issue.) She definitely appeals to the audience's emotions,

Where are the poison to the factory come from? @_@
vanzong 3 weeks ago
Part two: She incorporates this with a slippery slope effect. She continues to describe the damaging and harmful consequences and how they will grow based on Americans ignorance of this problem. She scares her audience with a world of nothing but pollution, trash, and unhappiness. I believe the video was very successful in terms of persuasion. It is a perfect example of putting a point across and supporting it and very representative of this class in general.
Bieberloverr33 3 weeks ago
Part one: Visually, the first thing I noticed about this video was the very plain qualities it contained. The narrator's clothing, the stick figures, and the overall lack of color helped me to focus on the actual objective of this video. The woman uses many different persuasive techniques to suck her audience in. The most beneficial method was cause and effect. She took listeners step by step through the consuming process explaining the effects of certain actions our society takes daily.
Bieberloverr33 3 weeks ago
Part Three: covered. Seeing the destroyed Earth and the polluting factory throughout the presentation forces the audience to keep every issue in mind. Overall, the animations had less flaws than the speaker, but the speaker's flaws would be hard to pick out if you weren't educated in persuasive techniques.
hollandslasher9 3 weeks ago
Part Two: she can redefine it in a way that will help her argument. I noticed the speaker used the logical fallacy of slippery slope very often. She starts out with a situation and uses process analysis to go through a chain reaction of events that she exaggerates into an unrealistic outcome. While the speaker isn't entirely persuasive, the animation is exceptionally persuasive. I noticed the band of animations above the speaker makes sure the audience doesn't forget what was previously
hollandslasher9 3 weeks ago
Part One:The first thing I noticed was the ethos of the speaker in the video. Her appearance makes her look average and her voice sounds friendly. Visually, she is welcoming the audience as an equal. Her tone has that "are you going to let them get away with this" feel to it, but she makes sure not to sound out right angry. Her argument would seem appealing to someone not educated in rhetoric. She uses definition to sneak in her own twist on the truth. She defines things in such a way that
hollandslasher9 3 weeks ago
PART 2: most is the topic of the argument. She does not do a good job in persuading you. She is not very professional, she tries to connect to the audience by talking on a "even-level" bases and tries to befriend the audience. This is a lousy topic. You use this strategy if you know your argument is bad and has many fallacies and many holes. Her point of view is weak, she is not a good speaker, and her argument is a failure. The topic is good, and can draw a well heated discussion but not today
whosyrmama1 3 weeks ago
PART 1: The speaker used several different persuading techniques to get her point across. The main one would be using POD techniques..which one??? All of them! The speaker uses each POD in her argument. The simple ones would be Narration, Persuasion, Process, and Definition. You can clearly see her narrating, she is saying this argument to persuade you, she shows the process of the consumer cycle, and she defines every word she says. The key POD in this group would be Persuasion, for this is the
whosyrmama1 3 weeks ago
The speaker made use of several techniques to get her point across. The largest one was along the lines of repetition. This technique was forwarded with the help of diction, and slanting the wordings to get her desired effect. At times the speaker’s bias got in the way of her persuasion, this occurred mainly at times of her attacking an issue, which wasn’t really the most important issue. and @andallthatRush bro it's just a Ap lang assignment on persuasion, calm down.
Timmythedrummerboy 3 weeks ago
The creators of this video used lots of repetition to get their points across. Repeating words like toxic, waste, and resources were key parts of their argument. Both toxic and waste create negative connotations in the reader's mind that make us better see the harm we are doing to both ourselves and the environment. There were a lot of stats used within this video, especially talking about America's past consumption. The assumption is that viewers want a world similar to in Americas golden age.
CRUN19 3 weeks ago
This woman uses a few different techniques to persuade the viewer. A few that she uses in her speaking, are techniques of POD; description and definition. They are similar, but they both work to aid her argument. She also uses techniques that show in both her speaking, but also the graphic in the background. Here, she uses process and cause and effect. Her use of cause and effect is the strongest in the video. Together, all of the techniques used help to solidify and help her argument.

OneHotBean 3 weeks ago
The first and most potent is the Argumentum ad Misericordiam. She manipulates the listener’s emotions to think personally, to focus on the sad state that certain processes put people in, rather than attacking that process.Next, equivocation. She is able to use terminology not common to most people, and then defines it to her own advantage. It sets up the Straw Man Fallacy. Once having defined words with her own clearly negative connotation, the speaker can attack the argument with far more ease.
9herecomesthesun 3 weeks ago
@9herecomesthesun thats kind of common knowledge and if you do need to discect the words then you can ...because to be on youtube you have to have access to a computer so i dont see why the terminology is the issue.....its not like she is trying to infer something totally out of the question i mean we all can see or hear of this happening around us and if not then you must live on some other planet
