Just because he posts videos on youtube doesn't mean that this is the only thing he does with his life. I mean, do you know this kid personally?

If you're a truly talented musician, which he seems to be, playing is effortless. It doesn't take endless weeks to learn/compose.

And even if he does sit at home and just do this, it doesn't mean he thinks he's better than anyone, he found what he loves so props to him.

I don't know this kid, but I read somewhere that he is on a swim team, and I pressume that he goes to school like most kids in the western world. This kid has remarkable talent and ambitions, and you just HAVE to find/create something negativ about him, to compensate for you being jealous that you haven't achieved anything?

Behind the Waterfall is a great tune. It was a great influence on my listening and playing habits. Lanz is one of the great pianist/writers. Green Into Gold is another favorite.

Yo Ben! Really nice composition. I especially liked the chord rolls beginning at 1:50 and the ending fade beginning at 3:42. You could even make it more intriguing by adding in some melody (improvising) with your right hand while rolling the chords. Another 5/5 hit!

Ben My Friend, If we could not use similar chord changes from other songs, there would only be one boogie allowed, one rock and roll song, one blues tune allowed etc. Many times, Yanni uses similar chord changes in an original song. Only he uses smoke and lights and pretty girls on violins to keep our attention away from it! haha

It is original if your melody is original. One does not copyright chord changes, only melody and lyrics. You can use anybody's chord changes as you wish, it is the melody you put that makes it original. So play as freely as you feel.

The problem is that there're only 7 notes fm A to G and a few chords to play with. It's natural that every time we hear a new song we try to associate it with the one we already know! And it's ok as long as we link it to the one we love and not to the one we hate the most! LOL

Not a criticism, but I wouldn't call that an original composition. It's not different enough from Yann Tiersen's Comptine d'un autre ete, a song you have played. It's the same chords in the same key, the melody and feel is similar, although you alter the rythmic motiff in some passages...good job though.

Hey Ben, At the end, when you play that song for Mary, where it slows down, and you play the high "E" note twice, then the high two "D" notes etc.. Try this next time you play thwe song. Whistle the high 'E' note at the end the same time you play it, then the "D" notes... whistle all of those ending high notes as you play them. It creates a beautiful sound, the high note and whistling together. It's a trick invented by the Brazilian composer, Jobim, and I've seen Sergio Mendes use it too. - Joe
