''For some reason we have a wonderfully idealistic view of him even today.''
I think in a way he is hard to dislike because he seemed to represent an early-American idealism. He cuts a good figure-head. If you scrutinise policy, and look at the mirky world of politics it is more complex; but he had basic American charm. I think Bush jr attempted the feel-good factor, but wasn't quite as successful - partly his fault and partly the trauma of 9/11, I'm guessing.
You're right. After watching Simon Schama's series on America and how Raegan's completely idealistic and tainted view of the world as opposed to Carter's realism and prudence won over the minds of America.
This is the real Ronald Reagan, as seen thru the eyes of the British. For some reason we have a wonderfully idealistic view of him even today. Why can't we see that much of our trouble today started with him and his ideas.
Exactly. A puppet show does a more accurate job portraying this dink than most in my country...how sad. And it's all true! He was a total idiot with many dark, destructive downsides to his rancid legacy. Love this sketch, and bonus points for the curly-nosed Caspar Weinberger.
If you looked up "exaggeration" in the dictionary, you'd find this video.

This is probably my favourite Ronnie sketch... I had no idea the Spitting Image team were so good at American accents
