  • I just love this TV theme! So much fun. There is only one Phyllis Diller and I was 11 when this gem was out. Oh Fang chill...actually would like all 30 episodes on DVD for my collection, Aha,aha, aha!!! True classic!!

  • That's us ..living like deposed royalty.

  • I remember these opening titles well!

  • I don't care how Phyllis dresses, she's always hilarious which is all that matters! I can't wait to see what she does in How To Live Forever! Should be hilarious just judging by the pikature they posted (on.fb. me/i6tinw)

  • Phyllis Diller ALWAYS seemed to wear awful shoes/boots/things on her feet like that...

  • I'm 53 and I was in fourth grade when this was on.

  • I haven't seen this show since, oh, 1966.

  • Phyllis Diller is one of the greats! I wish she would visit a night talk show. She made me laugh so much. The gift of making people laugh is the greatest gift of all. Love you Phyllis!!

  • Phyllis Diller is one of the greats!!! I have always enjoyed her. Wish she would visit some night talk shows. I loved this show when I was a kid. Phyllis you have always been and will forever be marvie-poo!!!

  • I still remember this theme song! Marvie-poo!

  • i can remember this show. it was really funny .

  • I remember this show, very campy it was.

  • What is scary is how things like this fade into time. You tube suprises me. In other ways it makes the 60s look ancient and people who are just a bit younger look at me me with crossed eyes if I show this to them or even bring it up.

  • Not only is Phyllis Diller a Brilliant Comic, who's written all her own material... she's also an extremely talented artist .. AND.....a Concert Pianist!

    She is a national treasure.

  • This is the first time I am seeing this since I was 12 years old. I am soon to be 55. It is so wierd to see something though middle aged eyes that I have not seen for so long. I did always remember parts of the song, not accurate but am suprised at what I did remember. Thank You for putting this up!

  • How d'ya do? How d'ya do? How d'ya do? I've long heard of this series, but never saw a single clip under today. Where on earth did you find this? Lol.

  • Does this show provoke memories of early 1967! At that time, Phyllis Diller became my idol, which she still is! Unfortunately, I saw this program on black-and-white television, so this is the first time I've seen it in color!

  • I've had this theme song stuck in my head almost my entire life.

  • Me too, but the only line I could really remember was the 'Ask the butler to lend you a buck, my dear". Now that is really poor. Can't say I cared much for the show, though. Hate it when people try to rip you off, which is why I hated 'Sargent Bilko', even though the name itself is hilarious.

  • I remember this one. Was only 4 years old and use to stay on weekends at my grandparents. Then candid camera use to come on, but I think it was just before Phyllis Diller Show. Thankyou for posting.

  • And let's not forget GYPSY ROSE LEE as the nosy next door neighbor, Regina Wentworth, who knows something is amiss at the Pruitt Estate, but much like Gladys Kravits on BEWITCHED, just can't quite put her finger on it!

  • needs to be on DVD

  • needs to be on dvd.........

  • Sort of "The Beverly Hillbillies" in reverse. With the possible exception of "Mad Men," classier and more intelligent than anything on TV now.

  • Where did you find this? I'm 51 and remember this show and its theme song! Thanks a million for posting!

  • I barely remember Phyllis Diller singing "howcha do" as a kid. This clip brought it back to me. Thanks.

  • How did Phyllis do this opening song with a straight face? I bet they had many takes on this. I have no memory of this show, and I'm 53. Man sweet Phyllis has been around for a long time, and she didn't start her career until after she was in her 50's if I remember correctly. She already had about 5 kids. Well the is 92 in July '09 and when I saw her on Jay Leno last summer she was really funny, gained weight in her belly and butt, but good for her. She paid her dues hope she's doing great!

  • Funny Funny show. Really should be released on DVD. Nothing on television today even compares to shows such as this & Love On A Rooftop. This was a superior & innocent time of television. Wonder if a dvd release is possible?

  • Filmways produced this in partnership with Phyllis ["Phil-Dil"], 'steelydan'.

  • MARVIE-POO!!!!! What a find!!!!!

  • My mom HATED this show but we kids loved it.

  • thanks for the memory!!!!! it was a great show.......was the opposite of the beverly hillibillies....but out on the east coast

  • (DILLER): Howcha do, howcha do, howcha do, my dear What a lovely surprise, nice to see you here (GARDNER): All the bills have been long overdue my dear (DILLER): File them under I.O.U. Howcha do, howcha do Well, HELLO, it's you Like my dress, like my beads Aren't they marvy-poo? (FREEMAN): They belong to the Internal Revenue (DILLER): And they've got us eating stew (CHORUS): The Pruitts Of Southampton Live like the richest folk But what the folk don't know Is
  • (CHORUS): The Pruitts Of Southampton

    Live like the richest folk

But what the folk don't know

Is that the Pruitts are flat broke!

(DILLER): Howcha do, howcha do, howcha do, my dear

(GARDNER) : We are out of champagne and I'm stuck my dear

(DILLER): Ask the butler to lend you a buck my dear

Howcha do, howcha do, howcha do

  • ... yep, vaguely remember watching this when I was a little boy. Great memory of a great era.

  • Thanks for posting this. I used to watch this when I was little, and had never forgotten the marvelous intro.

As far as I know, it was never re-run. I wish it were.

  • Never saw this show- we watched Red Skelton instead. Apparently the problem was the writers thought Ms. Diller should do physical comedy ala Lucy, which she wasn't all that thrilled at doing. I don't think she was all that upset the show went off the air.

  • SO FUNNY. I've never forgotten this theme song and am delighted to find it here.

  • This has got to be one of the all time funniest opening t.v. theme songs I've ever heard. Made even more hysterical by Miss Diller herself. This Show needs to be seen by todays audience, it's a classic..big time!

  • Thanx for this here post. To see Phyllis Diller, comin' down that staircase like an ol'Ziegfeld Follies Girl, is nothing short of priceless. That show should've run for a couple of seasons at least. The loss was all ours- DANG IT!!!!!

  • THE ORIGINAL PUNK!!!!!

    Ive been missing this forever!

I want the whole thing on DVD next to LA DOLCE VITA and SOLARIS.

  • Know this is out-there, but if you go to the Museum of Television and Radio in Beverly Hills or NYC, and watch The Hollywood Palace hosted by Judy Garland (and guest starring Vic Damone and Chita Rivera)--you can see a commercial of The Pruitts of Southhampton that lasts just a minute or so, but is hilarious--with Phyllis roasting a turkey in the washing machine).

  • This is a Filmways TV show, the same guys who gave us The Beverly Hillbillies, The Addams Family, Petticoat Junction and Green Acres. Those shows were so hot in the mid 60's, anything Filmways did was gold, and ABC jumped on this one, thinking it would be a hit.. it lasted a half-season.

  • THANKS DESPERATELY for putting this. I wish there could have been some mention or quick clip of Gypsy Rose Lee who played her friend & neighbor, I believe. You literally made me tear up with happiness upon watching this gem of TV history.

  • Many many thanks for posting the wonderful clip! It's a treasure that I have been trying to find for years. Last I checked the Museum of Television and Radio didn't have it in their collection. Mille Grazie!

  • What was the premise of the show? She was once rich, suddenly poor, or something like that?

  • She was recent widow to man who was highly respected in financial community. IRS reveals that after settling his debts, they are now penniless. As knowledge of this would prove devastating to US economy, IRS needs make it appear that family is still rich. They let her keep estate, and butler. Her brother and daughter(?) remain also. Each week some sort of crisis (such as having to throw a party, etc) would occur, and Phyllis would go through all sorts of silliness to "keep up appearances".

  • I fondly remember this show from 40 years ago too. The theme song has stayed in my memory all this time. I also remember that Gypsy Rose Lee played Phyllis Pruitt's nemises and next door neighbor Regina Wentworth!

  • there seems to be quite a few fans on here that would love to see this series on DVD. Please go to the Shout Factory website...there is a posting there requesting Pruitts be released on DVD. The more people that support this, the better the chances it may get released onto DVD.

I would love to watch all 30 episodes.I have seen 3 episodes and they are hilarious...definitely a show that deserves DVD release. I am surprised it is not in syndication.

  • Hi, Cherisland! We meet again, over Phyllis Diller on the Pruitts again! I WILL go the that website to support it! LOVE Phyllis Diller and The Pruitts!

  • EmpressDR!! Great to hear from you again! We definitely travel in the same circles! Thanks So much for your support...we're gonna get this released on DVD yet!

  • Haven't seen it in 40 years, and I still remember the intro. I remember one episode they were passing a teabag around for everyone to use, Phyllis says its a family heirloom.

  • Ok You ALL Let's Petition TV Land to find this one restore it & a play it!!!!

  • Real comedy

  • I want to see The Pruitts Of Southampton released on DVD! Someone has to own the right to this long lost, very funny and extremely silly gem!

  • Phyllis had the unfortunate circumstance of being opposite "THE RED SKELTON HOUR" and "NBC TUESDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES" in the fall of 1966. In mid-season, ABC moved the series to Fridays, "tweaked" it a bit, and it was retitled "THE PHYLLIS DILLER SHOW"..and was cancelled at the end of the season. Nice theme by Vic Mizzy!

  • When I was 5 or 6 this was one of my favorite shows ... another was "My Mother the Car" ... I sure knew how to pick 'em back then, or maybe that's the mentality they were aiming at!

  • Deliriously entertaining, even now, and that's an all-time great opening theme song. Please, somebody, somewhere, find, clean up and re-release this material (if they can sell outtakes from old war newsreel footage on DVD as must-have archival collector's items, and recycle old hurricane and earthquake footage as Weather Nostalgia every weekend on cable, why can't we see this deeply silly show again?).

    Thanks again, Miss Diller.

  • WOW! I've never seen this and I thought I saw everything from the 60's....I guess America was not ready for this back then!

  • Where's the complete DVD set? I've been thinking about this for years and have my credit card in hand.

  • That laugh! I LOVE Phyllis Diller.

  • WOW ... That was amazing. love her.

  • OMG this is amazing! Been so long since I've seen this!

  • You are fabulous!

  • I LOVE IT My favorite show from the 60's Phyllis was the greatest. What a CAMP!!
