  • Great Job! Very Impressed with your Seiza Waza, All your techniques were very clean and efficient---2nd dan in Japanese Ju-jitsu.

  • Nice!

  • Great demonstration of Jiu-Jitsu!

I am but a humble blue belt in Hontai Yoshin style Ju-Jitsu.

It was evident that your ukes were being subjected to a hardwood floor.(OUCH!)

Hence you had to slow down your throws/takedowns/immobilizations.

I know what it is like to practice on an unmatted area.(Sore to say the least)

Throwing anyone via o-goshi, ippon/seo nage, kote geshe, shiho nage, morote seo nage etc on a floor even at half speed it can be very painful/dangerous or even fatal.

    Yours in Budo

  • Excellent video. Poor uke lol

  • good jitsu

  • This is very good.

I can see the essence of you're martial art

    Thank you for posting!!

  • I am so proud of my last name right now :P

  • 2:42 LoL ))

  • Also, ANY FOOL can rush through these techniques--the slow smooth transitions you make are the result of years of proper training. Good Work!

  • Your techniques are smooth and well controlled. Truly the essence of the original ju jitsu. Have studied TKD, BJJ, Karate, aikido and am currently training in Hapkido. Blending, redirection, circular motion---enjoyed the demo!

  • Impressive demo, and kudos to uke. That hurts just to watch him taking those falls on hardwood.

  • Hi Andy

Clearly Goshwin has not had the throws locks and like performed on him. Like the dojo too, student will have a few bruises lol.

Student of Bushido my sensei was Jim Pape (Scouser)

    Steve

  • So what;'s the traditional name of the style?

  • Those hardwood floors must hurt like hell

  • Hi, Just wondering what style of ju jitsu this is. I'm a yellow belt in shorinji kan ju jitsu and am wondering whether i can look forward to learning this lol. thanks

  • was that knife real?

  • Interesting demo. What style of Jiujitsu is this? One major mistake I've noticed is that you wait for your opponent to come to you instead of stepping in. Could cost you on the street. I wouldn't mind cross-training in this style.

  • I have watched this film many times over the past few years. I always enjoy it.

I would like to see some randori, if you practice it.

  • Excellent vidio of the tactics-this vidio can be used as a study guide for students and instructors who practise ju-jitsu-on a vidio it does not hav tbe fast -just learn the

movement that is what counts-i own a martial art school and always look to good vidios like this to add to my instuction-oldsgtmajusmc -9whitewolf)

  • Very good demonstration, I have been studying ju jitsu for around twenty years now, I started as a child, My sensei is john steadman from ronin yudansha ryu ju jitsu. Its nice to see some traditional ju jitsu on here. Some of the moves that you performed, we do just a little different. Well done.

  • The ukemi could be better

  • im a red belt in this an jujitsu is the best

    nigga

  • yes lol

  • @Juliawhite70 i thought martial artists were supposed to carry themselves a little better than that. What's up with the language?

  • Ive been doing ju jitsu for about a month now , its unbelievable how better you feel in life and you are full of confidence i recommend everyone to try it. Great professional display 5 stars

  • good stuff, impressive display of knowledge mastered....thank you for posting.......regards! 5 stars..subscribed

  • im thinkin of startin ju-jitsu i raelly like it were abouts do you teach because i live in chorley and need a trainer

  • Osu! Very good display of skills not often seen these days.

  • ouch, I've taken martial arts my whole life and unfortunately where I live now I don't have the opportunity, I'm looking to switch styles when I move. Do you think Ju-Jitsu would be good for my body type? I'm 6'5" about 190 lbs and athletic

  • Hi Yes Ju-Jitsu suits most body types.

You may have to work harder using some throws on smaller training partners though. Have a go if you can find a good club! Hope it goes well!

  • Thanks

  • hi, ju-jitsu will be fine for you. I`m 6`3" and 190ibs and have been studying jitsu for the last 9 yrs. you won`t be as suited to some throws as some shorter (lower centre of gravity) students but in the same breath you`ll have an advantage in others.

  • @MasterMatrix8 Body type is irrelevant. This is martial art, not MMA wresting bullshit.

  • Good stuff!

  • This is why i picked ju jitsu over any other martial arts, i have stopped training a few years ago but i love the flow of all the moves i stuck at it for 8 years and achieved my first dan but then it was as if i was paying to teach lower grade students i met sensi soke fumont tanaka and his daughter shehan medori (they are probabaly both spell wrong sorry) but they both came over from japan to the UK to give us private lessons and a few demos they we such an inspiration amazing :)

  • This is aikido not jiu-jitsu.

  • Maybe it looks that way since Aikido was created by a Ju-Jitsu Master, as was Judo and WadoRyu Karate!

  • have you trained jitsu?

  • I have trained brazillian jiu-jitsu for 4 months. That's why I thought this was aikido.

  • the guy who invented aikido was a jitsu master prior to that and really focussed and enhanced the jujitsu principle of not directly opposing a direct force and using the attackers strength/energy against them. With this in mind and the use of joint manipulation the philosophy was to subdue the the attacker with minium force ! Very high moral code which is very unlike Ju Jitsu where the idea was usually to destroy the opponent literally

  • Ok, tx. What about judo, has it come from ju-jitsu or vice versa? I think why brazillian ju-jitsu is nowadays more practical in fighting sports is because the original ju-jitsu was designed for fighting in armor and using swords in real war, but there is no armor nor swords in full contact sports today. And lots of those tehniques were created, keeping in mind that enemy has a sword and u have to wight multiple enemies on the battlefield. That's what I think.

  • Again Judo was invented by another Jitsu master and also has high moral ethics. You may be right that BJJ is more suited to fighting sports because jujitsu wasn`t designed to have any sporting connotations .Most of the throws were designed to do massive damage whereas in sporting conflicts there`s usually a sprung floor or mats to land on that`s why BJJ generally uses takedowns rather then throws. And armour was worn for battle but there were many fights off the battlefield!

  • What do you think if you would put BBJ practitioner against traditional ju-jitsu practitioner who are about same level in their respective fields, who would win?

  • Hard to say but the traditional has an advantage in that anything goes and he should a more proficient striker/kicker and shouldn`t be surprised by anything the bjj tries. In saying that it could just come down to size and strength as when technique is equal strength comes into play!(a good biggy beats a good littley) All this is assuming it`s a real fight on real surfaces not mats and canvas.

  • I don't really know much about traditional ju-jitsu. In this video I see a demonstration of lots of throws by 2 dues who wear really wide pants and where he is giving his back to the oponent, anybody who knows BJJ would put his hooks in take that dues back, would not be throws and could go for a choke or armbar. when i search youtube for traditional ju-jitsu then I only see videos about demos with co-operative oponent like in aikido videos, but with BBJ I see real fighting.

  • What do you think about same sized and strengh mma fighter vs traditional ju-jitsu person?

  • still can`t say as there are so many different styles of jitsu hundreds of em .Some better than others(there`s plenty of bad teachers in all arts) Especially BJJ lately because so many of em have only taken it up in recent times because of it`s success in MMA and consider themselves teachers while they still in their early period of learning . Even the Gracie family have made a lot of bad instructors because they are happy to give out certificates to all and sundry as long as they pay .

  • I don't know anything about that, there probably are lots of bad teachers in every field. But the fact is that BJJ, Muay Thay and wrestling have proven to be the most effective "martial arts" or contact sports. With my only 4 months BJJ training I would like to spar with some aikido or traditional ju-jitsu master to see if I am right or wrong.

  • As for sparring with a master ! surely you should learn to walk before you run . To make Master should take at least 20 yrs and you only got 4 months behind you .

  • @betwixtX it's not a fact.fact is that there is no ´the best´ martial art.

  • All said i have great respect for good BJJ but let`s not forget it just jitsu groundwork focussed on and enhanced same as akido done with other aspects jitsu. Jujitsu in it`s philosophy shouldn`t stand still .The reason the syllabus is so big is because if they come across techniques that are very effective they usually take it on board themselves and the art grows! BJJ is fantastic on the ground but because of limitations in fighting multiple attackers and striking It`s not a"complete art"

  • I totally agree that BJJ is not an art and not complete. It's simply one of the most effective ground fighting system that keeps evolving and in fact it is just the logical evolution from its ancestor, now the BJJ has evolved to 11th planet ju-jitsu created by Eddie Bravo. In that sense I see what u mean by aikido and traditional ju-jitsu by being complete (if u do mean that?) - they more fighting distances and they have stopped evolving so they are complete. What is your martial art background?

  • My background in M.A is i boxed as a kid for a few yrs then got into Karate for a few yrs(graded to purple) then went off the rails(sex, drugs and rocknroll kinda thing) came back to M.A with Muay Thay when i was 27 then started cross training in Jujitsu a couple of yrs later .Loved it so much I decided to focus just on jitsu .Been in jitsu now 9yrs graded to 1st dan ,hoping to grade this year to 2nd. I have tried other styles like wing chun ,tai chi but feel at home in jitsu.

  • There`s a saying that says"If you can`t fight on the ground then you can`t fight!" But remember if you can`t fight standing up! then maybe the same applies !

  • Talking about hand to hand fighting: From what I have seen, I don't think it does apply.Every match that I have seen where a person who has only trained standup goes against a grappler, the grappler always wins. And one more thing, if you think that japanese jiu-jitsu is complete in the sense that it uses all fighting distances, then you are wrong, cuz fighting has also evolved, we can use firearms, bombs etc.

  • I don't mean to say anything to discredit japanes ju-jitsu and I want to stop this converstation since I think it has no point, we are sort of like smalltalking or might turn into a flamewar. So this is my last reply.

  • when you find an art that can stop a bomb or a bullet let me know. but if you`re ever unfortunate enough to get attacked or mugged and there`s more than one of them or they are armed your gonna wish you picked something other than BJJ. By the way to be called a MARTIAL art it really should be taught to the military ! and BJJ isn`t to my knowledge.Maybe you should dwell on that because i`m sure that if it was of use then it would be .

  • @betwixtX No it isn't, it's Juj-Jitsu. Aikidoka don't take there opponents to the ground and then follow them with ground work. Also Aikidoka don't throw there opponents ot the ground, they use joint lock to take them down. Just becasue he is wearing the Andy Pandy pyjama botoms, doesn't make it Aikido.

  • @betwixtX you are read this aint jiu-jitsu this is aikido:D

  • @betwixtX It not remotely look like aikido. You are just been a idiot. Please stop commenting crap since it obvious you don't know shit about budo.

  • @betwixtX its definitely ju jitsu, its far too hard a style to be considered aikido, the only similarity is that they're wearing hakamas, which jujitsuka sometimes do

  • Nice demonstration, in my opinion that is what Jujitsu is all about. GoshinWaza you don't need flashy stunts to be impressed, control and professionalism is everything and I think that Sensei Manwaring has shown both with great skill.

    Shaun from Malta

  • Sorry you feel that way!

I look forward to seeing a video of you demonstrating, or failing that one of you green belts (if you can't).

Pleae send me a link when you have uploaded you video

    Your In Budo

    Andy Manwaring

  • Yes GoshinWaza please can you post a clip yourself demonstrating some jitsu techniques as I thought the techniques were fine and would love to see something better. If you could show some green belts doing the same that would be amazing ! As your a teacher yourself maybe you direct me to your own website(if you have one)as I don`t want couple you with some of the Goshin sites that aren`t as impressive as your own

  • @GoshinWaza well Andy might be polite about that comment but I won't. I did Judo up to Junior brown belt and then Shorinji Kan Ju Jitsu for 8 years. There is no way on earth that performance is sloppy, and i've seen loads of different styles of Ju Jitsu in action. With all due respect, unless in your style it takes 30 years to get to green belt you are talking complete bollocks sir.

  • @GoshinWaza i'll extend that challenge. not only should you upload your own video, but why not provide some specifics in your criticism? Instead of just saying it isn't good enough, what screams at me about that comment is that you haven't said exactly how it is sloppy. The reason you can't, and haven't, is because it isn't.

  • @GoshinWaza Another keyboard warrior comes to critique technique. I have been studying judo and Jujitsu since 92 and this is technically sound traditionally demonstrated jujitsu. That coupled with the fact that this appears to be being done on a hardwood floor should be more than enough to shut most people up.

  • Great Job Sensei. Very smooth, great control, great demo. Also your Uke did a great job too.

  • Great demo!

I love when they shake hands and he does a breath throw on him XD

I don't know if it's a breath throw in jujitsu, but that's what they call it in aikido.

  • Excellent Demo'!! it's nice to find the 'true' Ju-Jitsu on this site instead of that sloppy, fashionable SPORT ' Brazilian Ju-Jitsu' that seems to be flooding in from everywhere leaving most newcomers to this amazing art believing that 'Brazilian Ju-Jitsu' is Ju-Jitsu. Ju-Jitsu comes from Japan, it's one of the oldest martial arts known to man and it's not a SPORT!

  • i think that anyone on here commenting is has half the ability as Sensei Manwaring and should quit their ignorant bashing and go outside and train. your all probly fat and huge and came across this after your daily dosage of porn! Much respect to Sensei Manwaring! your the man! and whats with Mooneshadow quoting wikipedia like hes a freaking historian. try a video response of your own shit next time you flame someone elses!

  • Nobody is flaming anyone and I meant no disrespect to anyone. Its an opinion... Grow up its a discussion not a bashing. As far as the wikipedia its pretty damn accurate. Not the first or last time anyone will quote shit from it. Sorry for offending you, but honestly you seem to bruise easily and I havent even thrown a punch. So I hope you get over that rather large ego your toating around.

  • Good video.. Looks very aikido to me but thats not a bad thing. Perhaps more small circle Jujitsu an art I do not no much about.. Either way it still is very cool..

  • Pretty brutal presentation. There is a reason jujutsu is called the 'gentle art'. You might be this brutal to someone out on the street but seriously that guy is going to have bruises all over his body for a week. Could have show all the same techniques with less power or on a mat and some of the finishes were unnecessarily long. You won't have that much time on the street. Still, a very good presentation showing what jujutsu is really capable of and very smoothly done.

  • One last thing... Some examples of martial arts that have developed from or have been influenced by jujutsu are: Aikido, Bartitsu, Hapkido, Judo (and thence Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Sambo), Kajukenbo, Kapap, and Kenpo as well as some styles of Japanese Karate. The Wado-ryu school of Karate, for example, is considered as a branch of Shindō Yōshin-ryū Jujutsu which has received strong influences from Okinawan Karate.

  • Very nice techniques. i know how difficult it is to do this stuff properly. Excellent! top keks too!

  • I think this is a very very nice display thanks for posting for all to see. I am very impressed with your clear techniques and smooth movements. Very nice! Was lovely to see it...I think people are so opinionated on here. I am a serious martial artisit too but think people have to many views and matter of fact comments. I loved the pants too I want some! Even though my main style is Krav Maga lol. Thnks!

  • have u ever see these take downs in mma?NEVER. anw dont forget that the asian martial arts started when the greek macedonians went to asia and the locals saw the greek pangration(pangrace)

  • Yes I have seen some very good throws in MMA, not just the ground and pound.

Every continent has been fighting since the beginning of time, anyone who realy thinks it all comes from one country is haveing delusions of grandeur!

I have taught in many countries, I teach Police, Body Guards and security staff as well as practical self defence. I have always tried to train with the top instructors I can. Sorry you didn't like the demo! send me a link to one of yours?

    Andy Manwaring

  • Fedor.. The best MMA fighter ever did Judo & Sambo. Both of which have roots with Jujitsu ..

U cant even use small joint manipulation, example"wrist or fingerlocks" in MMA , nor is groin shot or gouge's allowed.

The street and the MMA cage are to different places . Never forget that.

  • All martial arts have something to offer. instead of putting them down we should search for the useful things contained in them. what may work for u may not work 4 me but that doesn't make it ineffective.

  • I used Kotegeshi to throw a friend because he wanted to stab his brother and before he could get to him he was thrown. MMA is not the end all be all of a fight. MMA has very skilled fighters. Dosent mean you are going to run into an MMA guy in the street. There are just billions of situations out there and MMA dosent cover it all like removing a knife from someone. MMA is a sport and dosent cover the groin, eye or throat attacks either. Does that make it bad? Nope...

  • "One last thing... Some examples of martial arts that have developed from or have been influenced by jujutsu are: Aikido, Bartitsu, Hapkido, Judo (and thence Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Sambo), Kajukenbo, Kapap, and Kenpo as well as some styles of Japanese Karate" YA YA I CAN COPY AND PASTE FROM WIKIPEDIA TOO!

  • No i`ve never seen these techniques in mma but there isn`t any use for them when the opponent gets to land on a sprung canvas is there? mma is hardly realistic combat scenario when you can`t attack certain parts of someones annatomy (testicles, eyes, back of head, throat even pullin hair!) as for the origins of martial arts there are lots THEORIES out there! (none of them proven to be the first)

  • dont be so romantic.ok this is the original jiu-jitsu but its not effective for mma fights.its like a combination of judo and aikido.

  • It's a demonstration not a fight?

I would use different techniques in a real situations or a MMA sport!

It looks like a combination of Judo & Aikido? Check your history of where they both came from!!!!

  • My instructor is barred from MMA because it's spectacle. an evolution of bare knuckle if you like, Andy at the end of his demo showed a couple of KO points... dude, you cant use jujitsu, or any martial art thats been taught well in MMA because theyre designed for killing. shame people dont realise that or we wouldnt get 'aaaaaaaaaa karate kid' at every verse end.

  • The problem is people cant see the difference between Sport and a real fight out in the street. UFC or Cage Matches are closer to real fighting the sparring but when they are in between each others legs like BBJ there the groin is right there, the eyes are right there and so is the throat. If you know BBJ you know these are vulnerable and though you can guard if someone knows martial arts they will bite, crunch or attack these vulnerabilities in the street. Even kicks to the groin are so easy...

  • Good stuff!!!!!

  • Tsuki Koshi nage (Daito Ryu, Aikido Form)

Tsuki Koshi nage (Seoi nage Form)

Ryote Tsuki Koshi nage (Seoi Form)

    Mae Geri Uchi Ashi Barai

    Mae Geri Soto Ashi Barai

    Yoko Uchi Kokyu Nage

    Uchi hara uchi Kotegaeshi

    Chain Kokyu nage

    Chain Irimi nage

  • That is seriously good Ju-Jitsu. I think that the uke deserves a pint though. :)

  • amen

  • osu God bless

  • check out the hakama . where that one come from target drapery section...lolo

  • Tremendous effort!

  • great classical ju jitsu..

  • That was amazing. Perfectly smooth techniques, executed with real power and flawless precision- Ju-Jitsu at it's best. And what a great uke!!! :O

  • Thanks for the comment. I will pass on your comments to the Uki as well. A good Uki always helps!

    Yours in Budo

    Andy

  • Nicely done Sensei and great techniques.

    Thanks for posting this video.

  • very inspiring.

  • The last technique, is that a demonstration of a resuscitation? I am not quite sure what is happening there.

  • Beautiful. Well executed demonstration of classical jujitsu. Brilliant!

  • fantastic, really captures the esence of ju jitsu without anything remotely flashy and no mention of brazil or an otagon, thank god!

  • Amazingly efficient and smooth technique. A joy to watch.

  • nice. What ryu is this? More than one? Thanks.

  • It's Red Rose JuJitsu, says so right at the begining of the video. If you google red rose jujitsu, you'll find his website with plenty of info on it. :)

  • Very good video.

    Jujitsu always been my favourite.

Student in Judo at the moment, and then moving onto jujitsu. judo is similar but less strikes and more grappling where this is more street effective, and realitic.

    Brilliant video.

  • I am find waiting with baited breath for the onslaught of ill-informed comments about how none of this would work in the street or that the techniques are done too slowly to be effective...I'm amazed it hasn't yet happened!!!

  • Nice

  • VERY nice demo. Crisp, exact...merciless!!!! First saw this on your website. The History of your teacher was fascinating. Sad to hear of his passing though.

  • Thank you for your feedback, it's nice to hear what other Martial Artists think.

  • I really enjoyed this video, the tori has very good technique. Please keep up the charity work.

  • It seams to be similar to hontai yoshin ryu.

  • Very Good, Nice Video.

    What good technique.

  • This is very good because it shows different angles to the same technique. It is also slow enough so you can seem exactly how the technique is done. Thank you whoever posted this.

  • ouch
