this is the most accurate presentation of amateur cycling i have ever seen.
we've all been there. the days you had cram four bikes and four people into a compact car to drive to a cat 5 race, two hours away, only eating bagels and bananas.
Addiction is not a very good word for this clip as additction and cycling mean alot more addictoon to dope for many many Pro's lets hope this guy will or did not go down that path.
(Continued from previous post)..... I'm black and I love cycling, but one of the first comments I get is that black people don't ride bikes, only white people.... I prefer not to see it as a matter of color, just a matter of my love for the sport and hopefully that love will take me to the 2012 Olympics.... Nothing is exclusive to any one race, just more prominient in specific races.... Thanks.
To drexelur1, I think that the biggest deterrent to blacks to the sport of cycling is the cost of the sport. The second deterrent is as you stated, "that lack of blacks in the sport as it is". People usually migrate to what they can relate to most., there are more black track stars and more black basketball players, just like there are more Cuban baseball players and more British soccer players. Its a pure and simple matter of the "Birds of the Feather" syndrome..... (Continued in next post)
what the fuck do you mean "notice there are no blacks in this sport."? i dare you to come visit me. if you're not too much of a pussy to respond i will gladly send you my address and you can come explain your comment face to face.
This sport requires hard work, dedication, self-discipline. You must be in it for the love of the sport, not for any material gain. Notice that there are no blacks in this sport.
Completely agree because football, soccer, rugby, baseball and basketball requires no more training than sitting on the couch eating donuts. Do you even know what you are talking about? As a NCAA soccer champion I know you haven't done any sport on such a level or you wouldn't post such a comment - black cyclist/footballer
I agree with what you say. I'm 33 and just learning that. I'm also 330 lbs. I ride my 1,500$ Gary Fisher Mountain bike to work which is 14 miles away and it's up hill: it takes me about 1 hour 35 minutes. I can feel my wight loss. My goal is to loose 100 lbs then buy my self a Trek road bike.
Congratulation!!! you are awsome ,you take action and free yourself! keep on riding, maybe you start posting videos from different stages, maybe one now,one in three month and so forth,i would be interested!i wish you strong nervs and willpower with your goal on loosing on too much!!! road bike, yes!!! get one ,you will burn and burn and burn,i promise!
you can become a pro even as low as cat 3, but you have to have some incredibly strong ability... a lot of the sport is mental, knowing when to attack etc etc, george hincapie went form cat 3 to professional i think. Being cat 1 does not guarentee you go pro at all; i'd imagine you would have to impress some sort of company who sponsors or impress some sort of team.
i didn't know that. but you're definitely right on in saying a lot of cycling is mental. i could see how that could happen if someone wanted it bad enough. it's hard to believe i posted that 8 months ago, when i was still riding frequently. but thanks, 8 months later.
I thought that was pretty good , being a local guy from Windsor. Scary the different levels, I was in that Harbour Springs race and tried to go with those two and couldn't bridge. Kinetics were a very strong team. Shows you how strong Saturn etc. were.
@Erox1234 I agree - over 5 years ago I sold my car .. and keep adding bikes to fill ever need... At 47 it feels great to have a waist line of a 23 year old...
i dont know about you guys i ride my bike to loose weight!!!
but ive gotten better at riding my bike.. so im now in competitive racing. but still my priority is to keep off the weight.

its hard to excel on two different fields, you need to choose which one you really like..
as a cylist myself and at the same time having a fulltime job, its pretty hard to find time for training.
unless your a businessman and you have your own company.
most of the time you only have saturdays and sundays for riding while some guys do it almost everyday.
thats why when it comes to race day they always have the edge..
