This is the most amazing story ever told. Take it from me, a thirteen-year-old who *should* be screaming over Justin Bieber. I wish I could have seen Claude Rains. I'll have to look for his movie on E-bay. Gerard Butler is my favorite Phantom so far...I have yet to see the live show. The book was incredible (even after the fifth time) the movie stunning and I'm sure the live show will be absolutely amazing! Love you, Erik.

I remember seeing the 1943 version around 1946/7 when very young. The sawing of the chain supporting the chandelier stayed in my mind for years.

@DianaDragonblood Dude, I'm sorry but lon chaney is the best because because he took a lot of effort in his makeup he had the best ever! For 1925 you have to give credit. Do not get me wrong, Butler's version is great, But Chaney is the king of all the phantom movies. Also chaney's face is the closest to the book, as Leroux desceribed in the book as a death's head. And that is what Lon Chaney's is a skull. Butler's on the other hand is deformed but not like a death's head. Chaney is the best!

Well, you have right, but I like Butler's version, too,because it gives to the phantom more mystery and passion!Besides, no one of the other actors are soo ugly with their musk, so what's the problem with Butler to look handsome with musk,too?And Butler has beautiful deep voice which is necessary for this role! :)

Are you sure about that? Lon Chaney and Robert Englund turned out pretty ugly. Charles Dances never takes off his mask, but I'm going to assume since he made her faint that he's pretty deformed too.

The problem with Gerard Butler being as attractive as he is comes from the fact that the Phantom ugliness is more than just some superficial add-on. To be attractive undermines the whole point of why he has to live alone and can't win the girl's heart.

Ok..that was my opinion, I like the version with Butler,too,cause he is amazing as actor here!Maybe you want to see a more classical movie,maybe Butler could't be so ugly,becayse he is handsome,but the whole movie was great!Besides,in our days we don't have sense of beauty and a nice person now could also feel like phantom!
