Driving up Mount Washington Auto Road on a Sunny Day

I did this once in my life. I was driving a Honda Pilot which was way too wide for the road. Do yourself a favor, take a small sedan, keep it in 1st gear and go slow.

I watched this video because even in the south I occasionally see the "this car climbed mount washington" bumper stickers, and I wanted to see what the auto road was all about for myself. Please don't be offended, but sure, its a steep drive and theres no guard rail, but I don't get what there is to be proud of about driving up a mountain. I've hiked it, and its just a mountain... with a tourist trap at the top...

I drove up this before. Pretty intense drive but it did scare my wife and take a little wear and tear on the brakes. Even in 1st gear with a manual transmission I had to ride the brakes. Average grade is 12% and not much of an edge at the top.
