I heard the Unbound audioplay "Exile" written by Nick Briggs. Its AWFUL. Arabella Weir spends her time as The Doctor getting drunk and throwing up. Not kidding. What's the big adventure? Nothing. She's working in a supermarket in England and spends most of her time getting drunk with her friends. The tension is heightened when she believes aliens are going to blow up a car park! But they don't. They were no aliens just as there was no plot. Its a drunk Doctor and two bumbling Timelords.
@chrisfischerxxx Before Tennant netted the role of #10, he was already a massive fan and supporter of the Classic Series and therefore leapt at the chance to get a role at the Big Finish Audios. In "Unbound: Exile" he plays a Time Lord, in "Unbound: Sympathy for the Devil" he plays a UNIT officer (which he would continue to play in most of the UNIT Audios), and in the monthly series he's Daft Jamie in "Medicinal Purposes" and Nazi Feldwebel Kurz in "Colditz".
@KingLofiOne Knew he was a fan ...but didn't know he did work on anything Who b4 he was the doctor ...and it's funny because this is b4 the 10th lol fun
Wow I really didn't imagine this much hatred for this sort of idea. While I don't think the BBC would ever do it given how radical it would be, I think it would be interesting, and a way to explore a more alien side of the Doctor. You can deride it as pandering, but showing Time-Lords/Ladies as being beyond human society's concepts of binary, essential gender, having it just be a habit to stick with just one, makes them more unique, and less just humans in silly robes.
@ApocalypseNext Nope, they are to the Whoniverse what the "What If" comic books are to Marvel and the "Elseworlds" to DC. They all contain new Doctors that could have been but never came to be (among others, The Valeyard (Michael Jayston), had he won the "Trial of a Timelord" and taken the sixth Doctor's remaining lives) pose a question what could have happened if something played out differently than in the main continuity.
Well, to be fair, besides Arabella Weir, there have also been Barbara Benedetti (the "7th Doctor" in a quite interesting series of bootleg episodes from the late 80's) and of course Joanna Lumley.
Yeah making the Doctor a women IS the same as saying why not make James Bond female? He can regenerate, but why into a female? Why not ask why he doesnt regenerate into an animal of some sort then as well?
young boys age 5-8 see the Doctor as a Hero but if young see him change the Doctor as a woman they will sick that why they make strong female companion
i'm glad they gave a female doctor a try. but i think the part should be for a man. it's like changing Robin Hood, Cinderella, or Skywalker. these are the heros we love, no one can take that away.
Insulting Pertwee's manhood is really stupid and while there are female Time Lords in history, if the Dr. Who character is ever a woman on the REAL series, that will be the end in a hurry. If you want to try a female TimeLord, do a spinoff. As a matter of fact, is that what they will try with Georgia Moffet (Doctor's Daugher-sort of) or will she go the way of the two Romanas and not be mentioned again?
Oh yeah, then we can have a doctor thats bent then one thats a black hip hop artist and then one thats a muslim. Dont think so! Nothings safe these days!
Then roll with a female time lord main character, lets not use dr who as a mascot for something he/the show isnt... and DEFINITELY stop talking about Pertwee like that! The up side is that it will be a cold day in hell before such a thing happens.
there is a charecter in one or two doctor who novels called iris wildthyme, shes rumored/hinted to be a parallel/alternate timeline version of the doctor and was banished by her timelords to another reality forever, similer to how the second was exiled to earth.
Her friend she keeps mentioning.. anyone reckon its David tennant? They are apparently good mates after all (though that might be wrong, sure i read it somewhere). Plus he's in this vid.
I say a female Doctor would be a great change of pace. Let's have some male Companions running around screaming. :D But for now I say we keep Tennant as long as possible.
I ALMOST agree that the Doctor should be male...However,if the idea of casting were ever speculated,I'd recommend the following, for a start: Dame Helen Mirren Dame Judi Dench Dawn French Jennifer Saunders Jane Horrocks Emma Thompson Claire Rushbrook Catherine Tate Lucy Montgomery (from the TV show Tittybangbang) Zoe Wanamaker Kathy Burke
The Doctor should never ever be a man!!! and should never have a love interested as they have attempted with the 8th doctor and hinted at with the 10th doctor. It's part of the Holy Grail of Doctor Who and should'nt be messed with. It's funny that David Tennat was in that audio too. I know he's done some and I have 'Cloditz' that he did with Slyvester Mccoy; but I didn't know he did this one.
no no no no no no no!!! the doctor must be a man! For starters what if a female regeneration turned out sexy? I'm sorry but I refuse to be attracted to anything that once looked like William Hartnell! (no disrespect to Mrs. Hartnell)
Does anyone remember what killed Dr. Who and why there was such a long gap between the original series and the new one? It started with BBC Michael Grade's idiotic philosophy: he said "we have to give NEW audiences NEW reasons to watch the show." With those famous last words, the show then went dormant.
if doctor who was a woman instead of having the straight fans going ga ga over boobs and vaginas all the female fans will go crazy over cock as if the doctor has to be female a male companion vice versa
The Doctor Should NEVER. EVER NEVER EVER BE A WOMEN

If there was a female doctor, I think what Sarah Jane Smith wears on "Sarah Jane Adventures" would be a nice basis for a costume.

Actully K9, The Doctor only has 12 regenerations and 13 lives. Stupid mutt.
