So im from the LA/Southern California area. We don't hate palm trees, were mostly indifferent to them. If you grew up there it's completely normal and you don't even think about it not being natural or anything like that. The whole area would be a desert if water wasn't piped in, so its not like any trees in southern california are normal anyway. And the traffic does suck, and so does the touristy part of hollywood. There actually is public transportation, it just sucks too so nobody uses it.
