Hey all, why not show your support and visit the original creators webpage and check out the two games that everyone knew and loved which was "Hybris" and "Battle Squadron", they are re-releasing them onto new platforms such as Ipad and Android etc.. Battle Squadron is almost ready and Hyrbris will be next. Go and say Hi to the legends 'Martin Pedersen' & 'Torben Larsen' and the music god 'Paul Van Der Valk' & 'Ron Klaren' etc
It is all waves playing but there's pitch bend and arpeggios. Also some of the little repeated square waves are being editted in memory (by Paul van der Valk's play routine) as the wave plays ... so altering the proportion of up to down as you listen. That's where the long interesting chip-guitar-wah-wah sound comes from. In this way it get's to be a synth even though the hardware only plays waves.
if i had this as my ringtone, i could't answer any calls since i would become nostalgic and listen to the music until they hang up and then become a bit angry about them hanging up, causing the music to stop playing xD
THAT is computer music. Most Amiga musics were just MODs with digitized instruments. But this one... wow. It really uses the SYNTH capabilities of Amiga's sound chip. Awesome.
@hooverphonique Of course it has. I have programmed music in AmigaBASIC with no samples at all. It has e.g. programmable sound envelope, attack and decay times etc.
@hooverphonique Okay I was referring to various articles that said you could use something like a freely programmable waveform on the Amiga. I guess this is was Hybris is doing. I wasn't aware though, that a "totally freely programmable wave form with values from -128 to +127" actually is identical to what today is known as "waves". So you either fed the chip with "samples" of a real wave, or you programmed it. Also AEGIS Sonix was doing that, I guess. Thanks for clarifying. :-)
@hooverphonique yes, sorry, i've readen too fast, i'm sure that Amiga can make synth sounds, but with soft synth as Sonix, not with hardware which uses only samples, but i ask myself how a soft can make synth sounds without hardware for, just by coding ?? on my first amstrad cpc i could make sounds and music by coding in basic ... ( i delete my comm up ;-) )
This was my first Amigagame, I only knew pixelated Atari 800XL and C16 games until that. It blew me away! That title screen, the colors, the music! Just wow. :)
Requesting midi file or Piano sheet! Definately one of the best Amiga Soundtracks EVER

I remember playing this game with my father way past my bedtime on school days. He was more hooked than me. Great times. Brilliant music.

Amiga music was just pure magic
... and four channels of 8-bit PCM, but mostly magic.

I always thought it was a shame that Iron Maiden didn't make a song based on the section from 1:09

@Thunderblade64 that's correct, but that's a softsynth. I said it has no synth *hardware* !
hooverphonique 1 year ago
@Thunderblade64 AmigaBASIC uses softsynth.. I used to code demos for the Amiga and know the hardware inside out, so you can trust me on this!
