One last thing. My table, a VPI Classic was nicely nested in a $300,000 system last year at CES and they used it and Vinyl for ALL their demos.
People are clueless about what good sound is. You obviously are not. I have played my system and done A-B comparisons between CD and Vinyl, and I have yet to have one person not tell me how incredible Vinyl sounds compared to these shitty sounding CD's
People are stupid and laughable, ignore them!!! Let them have their little mp3 players....
Also keep in mind the the first flat record was pressed in the 1880's!! We've had an immense amount of time to make records sound phenomenal!
I'd like to see these dopes we are surrounded by come out here to CES some time and see that 90+% of the high-end to Ultra High-end booths are spinning Vinyl for their demo's!!!!!!!!
We're talking systems from the tens of thousands up to $500,000 or more; audio systems..
No offense to your dad, but ANYONE who says Vinyl is dead is smoking some serious shit!
First of all, I have been in the High-end audio world for 30 years, and Vinyl stumps the hell out of cd's and absolutely crushes shitty mp3!!!
cd's are digital 1's and zero's with nothing in between. All music is INHERENTLY Analog to begin with. I think it is hilarious when people say cd or mp3 sound better. It tells you how many people have their heads up their ass.
Should google 'inside record groove', this guy took 500x and 1000x photos of grooves. It looks like the grand canyon, and specs of dust look like boulders.
Go here to see the difference between Vinyl and CD

Even though the record was recorded onto a PC (digital) it somehow maintained its full wavelength. Also the video compares CD to record and as you can see the CD is pretty limited compared to the record.
hehe, I've listening my whole life to music on vinyl, and I was pretty pissed off when cds came out, I was a kid back then, but even I could notice the difference: music doesn't sound alive on cds, it sounds flat. I don't have audiophile equipment, even with my consumer-level philips turntable, I can tell the difference.
I feel you, man. I agree with you completely that vinyl quite simply sounds better. I recently picked up a copy of Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland" and while I've listened to that thing hundreds of times on CD, it all sounded completely new. There were instruments in "Crosstown Traffic" I had never heard before, and "Voodoo Chile" just draws you in. Unfortunately, my (cheap) table died, so I too am saving up for the Rega RP1 as a good first "real" table. Hope you got yours by now! Hang in there...
My parents were the same way when I was a teen. They saw pink floyd & hendrix posters on my wall and thought I was "weird" or smoking pot (which i was but thats besides the point) what they don't understand is that newer stuff is so generic and just really terrible (not always) so you have to go back to when shit was good. you're not weird man, your just smarter than average people your age. you should tell all your friends they should get vinyl too. spread the word. vinyl will never die.
vinyl sounds so rich in sound and mp3 sounds empty
