I am having a VERY hard time finding copper foil. I found copper "sheets" at a craft store but it was much too thin, a soldering iron will just melt it. Will this work with aluminum foil?

You might want to try using flux to improve solder uptake on your foil to wire contact. Also when you solder to the header pins use two pieces of shrink tubing one for each wire instead of one to cover both. There is a high risk the header pins that you will grab the header pins and pinch the two wires together if only one tube is used. That will short them together and result in a direct shunt to the 1M Ohm resistor.

@ptpetrov start simple then work your way up to stuff like this, you can look up a schematic key that tells you what everything means.

(model railroads come to mind).

then move on to more complicated schematics

of course, you could skip the theorie, simply get a schematic off the internet and start soddering, but you won't get far that way

either way, don't go for complicated stuff right from the beginning
