This is the National Championships, so generally they are in championships. But at this age their teacher can send them to nationals at any level if they think they are ready.
irish dancers back in the old times would go to church on sundays and they would wear nice fancy dresses and curl their hair. then afterwards they would go and dance and sometimes have competitions. that is the TRADITION. you know abosolutley nothing. and just because your irish, doesn't mean you know anything about irish dancing or traditions for irish dance. come back and talk when you have been and irish dancer for 11 years!!! and also stop blaming americans. sorry hunny you are clueless :)
The wigs were brought to irish dance by the irish. They would dress up in their nicest dresses and curl their hair to go to church every Sunday. When they would compete in ID, they would curl their hair to look nice.
As an irish dancer myself...its just like like normal...you have to go with the fashion! if you went up on stage without make up or a wig or a shinny dress it would just be wierd! were not in the 1940s anymore!!!!
This is like a Beauty Pageant, not Irish Dancing, at all. The wigs are hideous, and so are the dresses. And why in the name of God were the under eights allowed to wear make-up? IT IS SICK.
I'm Irish, and I know for a fact that its not tradition for irish dancers to have curly hair, and especially not to wear a wig.
The tradition is just to have normal hair, and a simple dress/ skirt+blouse.
The wigs and hideous solo dresses were brought in by the americans, and they made up that stupid lie and said that curly hair was traditional in Irish Dancing. It is a load of sad and pathetic RUBBISH.
You may be Irish but you know very little about Irish dance if you think the USA starts the trends. Every trend, from wigs to solos to tanner starts in Ireland and is brought back to America by USA dancers who have seen it at the All Irelands. Even the BNDM (who design and sew the 'hideous solos') are all Irish/Brit.
I agree about the make-up. A lot of the girls WAY overdo it. I think a little bit should be allowed, because for the little girls it is fun, but only enough so it looks natural.
lol are you guys talking about that girl's dress? the one that goes to rince na tiarna and is definitely wearing fiona dargan's old dress? haha i noticed...
Ahhh! I know Margarit Muise #180, shes a gorgeous dancer! (:
