You young people will never get it . . You had to be alive and be a young bastard in 1978-79 to understand what was going on . . with music and politics . . Stop comparing this time to people and things from "your" time and generation . . Its BULLSHIT . .
Always thought this song was some strange cross between Link Wray (the opening chords), Judas Priest (the main palm muted riff) and the classic Stray Cats songs... Oddball for them, awesome combination for my tastes.
Actually, the SAS did storm the Iranian Embassy in London to end that hostage crisis. I think you're thinking of the American Embassy in Iran.
Technically, Jimmy Carter did try to storm it as well, but sandstorms forced the helicopters to abort the operation which was quite costly for him politically.
Ultimately the release of the American hostages was negotiated behind the scenes in the notorious Arms for Hostages deal.
The Russian troops should give us backup in Afghanistan since they started this conflict, Chinese troops could also appear too since they are dependent on Americans to buy their products.
The Cats should've done more political songs, 'cos like this song shows us, they knew what they were talking about, they weren't just shouting rethorics or flagging the whole goverment nazies or whatever. This is what I call proper punk rock 8D
@callmeic Lee Rocker rarely supports Setzer, unless they´re the complete Stray Cats trio. So if you saw Setzer alone or with the Nasvllians or BSO it's almost 100% certain that Lee didn't support him.
its amazing. I have always thought the music industry would have to put them in Vegas. Not only Brian, but the entire trio of Stray Cats. They are that good together. Maybe they don't want that :-)
The song is about urging Americans to storm the Iranian embassy here on our soil, as revenge for the goddamned evil Iranian shitheads holding 52 of our citizens hostage for 444 days in 1980-81. Don't you people remember or understand anything?
@Ampex101 "Storm the Embassy" and possibly "Rumble in Brighton" might have have that 3-chord unpolished "punk" sound... but you dont rock a Gretsch guitar and a Slap King double bass and call it ANYTHING but Rockabilly. The Beastie Boys did a couple punk songs, there is no time that they have been referred as "punk" though.
@RmonSP Rockandroll and even the blues were punk before that term exists. We just got a name now to refer the combination of some special characteristics. Genres are just for practical use, nobody should take them too serious.
this is one of the coolest geo-political songs ever done, up there with anything the clash did. really well-educated lyrics about the fear a lot of people felt when it happened.

basically just based around Em, C, D.
At the start play an open Em, play an open C, then slide that position up to the 3rd fret.
Then just muck around with barre chords. For the "I think it's funny..." play an Am, then C, then Cb. Fairly simple really :)

Kick ass, rockin' song.
This is one of my fave Cats' songs. Not traditional rockabilly, and they bring politics into their music which i'm never really a fan of, but DAMN!--- just a great pumping song!!
Two thumbs up.
