  • Did she just say a solid white german sheperd was controversial??

    Why???

  • it doesn't mater how u call it GS is best!

  • I rescued a German Shepherd 1 month ago from our local pound. A full breed 1.5 year old female that has become part of our family. A very active and friendly dog except around smaller dogs. Best breed of dogs.

  • They should not be allowed to run free? What the fuck???

  • @SammySamuelSam Yes it is true.. If u do not believe that, I would like you to meet my GSD and get your balls tore apart :-D

  • @priyaranjansharmash Then you need to train your dog because when GSD are trained they don't have that kind of problem.

  • @SammySamuelSam So Probably you haven't understood them yet.

  • @priyaranjansharmash No, it's just that I had a GSD and he never went after people or anything ugly when he was running free, on the contrary he was really close to me and he was always nice to the ones he liked. On the other hand I recently had a Golden Retriever and he was awesome too, but he wasn't ought to run free because he was just too crazy.

  • @SammySamuelSam Good that both your dog did not have territorial dominance to that extent.

Last week my GSD killed a stray dog, choking him by the neck :-(

  • @priyaranjansharmash Well, that's another story. Normally GSD are very territorial and when whey're not involved in a "socialize" process properly they just get they natural and aggresive territorial dog out... But I understand your point... Is your god like that with people?

  • @SammySamuelSam I had 2 GSDs and 1 mastiff, lately had to relocate so have got one GSD with me.

He is not like this with people, but 2 weeks back the gardener jumped the fence and entered my garden when he was bit. This was the first time my GSD even attacked on a human being. After biting him, he has gained confidence and now he seems to run at people to scare them. I have stopped leaving him loose on leash.

  • @priyaranjansharmash Yeah I checked your channel, you have a really beautiful long-coated German Shepherd but personally I think the best way to keep him under control is to teach him some stuff, I mean they were born to work and perform actions for people so maybe that's what's he's expecting from you.

  • @SammySamuelSam Thanks a lot.. I will convey your compliment to him :-)

You know I have researched so much about GSDs and I try to teach him stuffs, but he is just too worried about others. I can train him or play with him if he likes toys, or food or something, but he just looses his concentration on me and no matter what antics I do, he will give a damn :-D

Today I got the tug-of-war kinda toy for him, and he does not like it too :-/

  • @priyaranjansharmash Hi there, I read some of your compliments, and it sounds like if you dont get ahold of the issue now it will only get worse. Did you contact any trainersin your area so you could take him to some weekly classes with other dogs and people? Also if you have a tug try to look at some videos on building prey drive. maybe you arent doing it right, most dogs like this love tugs. Look at some leerburg videos with Micheal Ellis, or Ivan Balabanov. They should help you in both.Cheers

  • @Hudson2012 Hey Thanks for you concern, really appreciate it.

    What are tugs actually?

I am not getting a lot of time to take my GSD for long walks due to work. Trainers out here are not good enough. They believe in forcing the dog to learn, and I am very kind to animals, against training.

Have a look at his videos in my channel.

  • @SammySamuelSam Check out my channel, I have his videos.

You have any idea about a video editing software, I wanna make a good video of me with my GSD but I am a newbie.

  • @priyaranjansharmash I don't know man, I really haven't go beyond the Movie Maker, but I've heard about Sony Vegas Pro... Maybe that would help?

  • best dogs

  • I received Sage when she was 5 weeks old from my dad who works for the K9 unit. I knew I would love her, but man, she is my world. She is extremely smart and so funny. I love showing her off on youtube and Facebook. She is my world!

  • My german shepard was confused with a bear lol weight 157

  • To be honest your an ass hole if you don't let your dog run free, only if there agressive but that would be the owners fault. (;

  • @Piano0397 Actually, it is never a good idea to let you dog run free whether or not it is aggressive. Dogs have a pack mentality, and even the best behaved dog can get into trouble. Not to mention the dangers to the dog itself, such as cars, cruel children, and the diseases and illnesses it can contact from eating garbage or coming in contact with wild animals or other sick animals. Responsible owners do not let their dogs run.

  • 2) They should not be allowed to run free??? If you think thats a requiriment for owning a Shæferhund then you need to stop giving people tips about dog ownership.

  • whats the closest to a german sheppard that does not get as big?

  • @Arlind86 DUTCH SHEPHERDS they are just like german shepherds same origin too. but a lot smaller.

  • are there smaller german shepherd dogs?? are the females smaller?

  • @woo2fly18 Yes. Get a rescue. Pick a small one. Easy. Go to your local German Shepherd Dog Rescue.

  • Belgain shepherds are WAY better dogs. I'm looking between the two and yet again I will get a Belgian not a German shepherd.

  • @ArcticWhiteWolf333 Honestly I've seen you dissing the GSD. No one gives a fuck. GSD over Belgain anyday. And if I saw your comment on the Breed All About It: German Shepherd. Why aren't the Belgain shepherd in the smartest dogs then?

  • Next time i'm getting my GSD from a breeder, not rescue like i did.

  • @RoughRiderElk why?

  • @MrWeedisdashit Well, you know what you're getting. My first dog came from a shelter. They said he was full blood. he was'nt. my second was scratching like crazy. they said it was an allergy. She had a skin condition it turned out.

  • if you see agressive GSD thats because he/she is trained wrong, or miss treated! GSDs are very peaceful and loyal breed, I know, I have a 6 years old female. She never did something wrong or bad, she never attacked someone or went away from home. and please, if you have GSD or any other dog, please, don't sign in for professional training. Many trainers punish dogs when they do something wrong, but thats wrong! If you need any help, send me a message, I spent my whole life with GSDs.

  • @Piximan0611 Advising that people not sign their dogs up for professional training is very, very bad advise. There are some idiot trainers out here who use the wrong training method, but as bad as they are, they will still know more about dog training than the average owner. Better to look for a trainer who uses mostly positive training techniques. My family has a shepherd mix and they "tried" to train the dog themselves . . . yeah, that didn't work. He's sweet, but with no manners whatsoever.

  • @LadyEsori

I know some people who sign their dogs for professional training, and those dogs after training changed their behavior, but in a bad way. you can perfectly train your dog at home, like I did, and she never did something wrong or bad. I don't say, don't go for professional training, but rather train your dog at home, your dog will respect you more... If you wanna, I'll go next week to the library to look up for book that I've read 6-7 years ago. that book helped me a lot :))

  • @Piximan0611 I have several dog training books, and when I get a dog (apartment too small for the breed I want) I will mostly train from home, as training is an ongoing thing. But there are merits to dog training class, chief among them being the social interaction the dog gets with other dogs and people. The people who sent their dog away did 2 things wrong. They sent their dog away for training, expecting to solve all problems, and didn't do enough research on the trainer and their techniques.

  • Great dogs for RESPONSIBLE pet owners with experience. If you have the time and energy they are the best there is! But you have to learn about them, meet some dogs if you don't know any before you get one. And most important meet the parents and buy from responsible breeder!

  • schayyyferhüünd lool

  • i want one but my dad says it will hurt my lil sis i am trying to convince him tho

  • @codforps34life If you raise a gsd puppy with your little Sis and your fam, then I think the problem becomes not that the gsd will hurt your sis but anybody the dog thinks will hurt your sis will get hurt. Owning a gsd takes a lot of responsibility time and devotion from your whole fam as do all dogs but the gsd needs to be trained it is true they can be a little over protective, with the proper training, socialisation and effection these can be the most lovable, obedient, Fun and beatiful dogs,

  • solid white was the original colour of the german shepherds

really beatiful dogs, i had one thatwas black and tan.

the only downside to these dogs is that they shed a lot of hair, A LOT!

but appart from that they're the best dogs.

  • @hellenic300 While I think that solid white GSDs are striking, they were not the original color of the GSD. The original color was more in the neighborhood of a Sable. Even the Black and tan coloration, which is so popular today, came later. That's why white GSDs are disqualified from the show ring. The "logic" is that a white dog is too hard to see on snow covered hills and too easy to see at night. Thus, strong, dark pigmentation is .

    And they do shed . . . A LOT! =P

    Love them though. <3

  • Ein deutschei Schäferhund kein Scheiferhund ich blöden Amis

  • GSD + family cat=?

+ how do they deal with being left alone for a few hours if properly trained with caging ? thanks and goping to get one soon

  • @MTFC99 gsd + family cat = best possible dog out there for having around small animals and/or children, absolutly protective and unbelivably tolerant, this dog will never ever hurt your cat (do know that there are exceptions for everything, im talking about the general character of the breed), you need to let your dog know that he is below the small pet in the "pack" and you should not even let him bark at the cat, do this and the dog will soon love the cat and tolerate anything done by the cat.

  • @MTFC99 GSD + family cat (+ proper socialization) = happy family.

GSDs were developed as herding animals, not as hunters like hounds and terriers. Thus, with proper socialization as a puppy, or with slow careful introduction as an adult, you should have no problem with kitty =)

And so long as you don't have a puppy in the teething stage, and you have a dog who is properly physically and mentally exercised, then your dog should be fine when left alone. Get the book "High Energy Dogs", it's great

  • German Shepherds are the BEST breed in the world! Just watch my video to see how wonderful they are with children!

  • great video and thanks for the info. Wonderful dogs. My favorite by far.

  • all this info is great..but it's not all true. it's only true for NON-working line GSDs. Working line gsd's are much more time demanding, bark more, need MORE training, MORE exercise ect...be carefull when choosing blood lines for your family. do as much research as possible :)

  • Are german shepherds good with other dogs?

  • I'm thinking about getting a german shepherd. How easy are they to housebreak?

  • @clemmee29 3rd smartest dog in the world so pretty easy

  • @clemmee29 ive had my GSD pup for just over a year. housebreaking really would depend on the personality of the dog. mine came from a breeder in northern Ontario (Canada) and spent his young life outside. he was fearful of stairs at first but giving him the confidence to go up and down. as for them doing their business in the house its not a huge deal. theyre really smart and respond to any kind of training very well. it took a week or 2 to get my dog completely housebroken.

  • Let compare I have both of these breeds. Two breeds with similar activity level. Black Lab and GSD. A GSD can be exercised a little less than a black lab. If for some reason you skip a exercise session the GSD tends to be allot less destructive to houses. I skip one with my lab something is gonnw get eaten my GSD doesn't act that way.

  • Doy-chah Shay-fur-hoont

  • I dont get it why everybody says u have to train ur dog i have never trained any of my dogs and they still do everything perfect also i let all my dogs run free and they never get lost or run off and all the dogs i have had they are very low maintence

  • @TArKiNgZ You're probably thinking of formal obedience when you hear training. If your dog knows not to get on the couch/bed or jump on people or pull on the leash, you've somehow trained them to know this. But not training a dog is like not sending you to school. The dog doesn't learn how to best communicate with their human or learn how to learn (which is important). And besides, the mind of a GSD is a terrible thing to waste . . . oh, and I hope I misunderstood you when you said they run free

  • Don't buy from a breeder! Go the German Shepherd Rescue. Fabulous dogs that have been abandoned, mistreated, or abused. They will bond to you and be your best friend, and you won't be sorry.

  • @snakemanmike

I agree. I got my german shepherd from a rescue pound, he was mistreated and starved. Since I got him I've spent 4+ hours everyday with him, taking him to dog parks, walking him, going on hikes, playing with him, swimming with him at lakes and feeding him proper nutrition. You have no idea how great of a feeling it is when you know you've changed your dogs life, that you've given him a second chance at a loving, caring home he/she deserves.

  • @pojo205 Great job Mike! Rescuing any dog from a shelter or a rescue service is such a great thing to do.

  • @TotalGermanShepherd Not necessarily. GSD rescue dogs are fine as long as they're bred properly and weren't abused/have no aggression issues. Please do not encourage people to just adopt any GSD. There are a million backyard breeders out there and the wrong GSD can be a killer.

  • @pojo205 I am thinking about fostering a german shepherd mix puppy. The puppy and its 2 siblings lost another 2 of there siblings and their momma by getting hit by a car. They are homeless right now and are too small to go to a shelter so I hope I can help :) Apparantely they are really scared and sad :(

  • @snakemanmike Not that I'm dissing on rescues, they're important, but telling people not to go to a breeder is like condemning the future of all dogs, not just GSDs. The dogs that come from the shelter are fixed, so if everyone goes to the shelter to get a fixed dog and no one supports the responsible breeder, where's the next generation coming from? Both are important. Go to the shelter first. If you don't find what you're looking for, find a breeder. Support the next future of our dogs.

  • @LadyEsori Once we have run out of abused, mistreated and abandoned dogs- then I will be happy to deal with breeders. That day is a long way off, I'm sure. By the way, most of the genetic problems that plague pedigreed dogs of all breeds are due to breeders. For the most part, breeders treat dogs like livestock, they don't love them.

  • @snakemanmike Actually, the genetic problems are due to BAD breeders, who breed indiscriminately for profit, and most of these dogs seem to end up in the shelter anyways. Good breeders love their dogs, have them screened for genetic defects, place them in carefully screened homes and will always take the dog back, thus keeping it out of the shelters. We will never run out of shelter dogs until everyone stops supporting puppy mills and backyard breeders. Shelters or responsible breeders only.

  • Your boring. But go German Shepherds!

  • Don't let them run free?...its called training....use it....

  • My parents won't let me get one:( the're the best breed of dog

  • at :45 area :) Ich bin Deutsch, you nailed it :D

  • i don't think, i have one xD. it's a male called Zeus =b

  • When I was a toddler we had a female german shepherd, she was my nanny..

I remember my feelings for her, 46 years later. She was the best and I felt safe and protected when she was near me.. which she usually was.

We found another female gsd when I was 11, she was beautiful and sweet.

  • And she understood basic German....She went like a warrior. She was Everything, she was so smart.. She was a part of my family...my girl.. We were a team.. Its been a week..... when is it going to get easier ...i am so sad...

  • @fixglaucoma I'm so sorry to hear that... It's hard. We lost one of ours due to a vehicle a couple years ago and it truly was one of the most difficult times in my life.

My heart goes out to you and your family.

  • I just lost A Best Friend, a Partner, My Dog Luciel...She was Wise, Beautiful, and oh so so Loyal..She loved to keep The Horses in Line....All day she kept them off the fence, whatever i needed...My hart is breaking, i dont know how i am going to manage thoses horses with out you. Till we meet again, I love you my Girl Lucy Lou

Everything you said about the German Shepherd is True. I have almost 2 acres they need alot of room, They Def need a JOB... My dog was trainned by a german guy...

  • I am desperate to get a gsd but I have never had a dog before could any on give me some tips or advise thank all

  • @pilotlukeduke First do NOT get from a pet store ever! Find a breeder near you that has been around for a long time ask your local vet they should know of a few. Second "I have a Male and a Female" I recommend getting a male first but thats from my own experience and from what other GSD owners have told me males are more laid back. Third LEARN the breed get a book read up and if you see a person with a GSD ask them questions! GSD owners love talking about GSDs and will help you. PM me questions.

  • @xXCANINEXx I agree heavily with your whole statment.... I am a GSD Breeder in Kentucky. We have six right now and the males are DEFINITELY more laid back than the females. However in my opinion, in most cases the female will more times than not make the better watch dog for your property. Don't get me wrong a male GSD makes a very good watch dog, he is just likely to let the female do all the work. If their is a female with him. LOL.... German Shepherds are the best.

  • @1BassBoomer I agree with you about letting the female do everything my male is lazy best around people and children. My female is also great with them as well but female are thick headed and make you work hard to get there respect but when you do they will listen to every command you give them. Yes GSDs are the best everything else are just dogs!

  • @xXCANINEXx i gotta say l had a female 1st and she was a lil more laid back the male was always excited but i loved them both amazing dogs

  • @pilotlukeduke German Shepherds are very athletic, and they love to work. In my opinion they are the best breed of dog on the planet. Loyal, Loving, Caring, and very protective. They make great family dogs. They do get quite large, not huge, but large. So take care around toddlers. They could knock a little child down fairly easily without wanting too. A German Shepherd will be your best friend until the end. So if you get one, take good care of it and it will take good care of you.

  • @pilotlukeduke Average size Female 80-95lbs mine is 82lbs males 100-120lbs but can get a few pounds bigger mine is 105lbs. Also socialize them around other dogs and other people you will get people that want nothing to do with a GSD because they or someone they know 20 years ago got bite by one. Kids do love GSDs because with kids there personality changes they get more laid back and will let them poke and pull them and if they had enough they get up and move to where the kid can't get them.

  • Okay I still want one! Just need to hundreds to actually get one...

  • i had a gsd and he was allowed to run free, became a sheepdog and followed the sheep everywhere, rarely played games barked in every anknown person and he lived to be 15 years old.,he eat lots of meat and animal bones

  • They do shed alot even if you brush them but if you can handle tons of hair then you have an amazing friend. Just like any dog then only have one master, our GSD is very protective of me when my husband goes to work early in the morning and I dont know how he does it but is wiggles his tail when my husband is coming around the corner with his truck and waits for him at the door. That is how I know my husband is coming home. Weird but just shows how smart they are!

  • Lol why is the solid white one controversial ...?!

  • @cordelamieE Many of them are deaf at birth due to the link between deafness and albinism. Being deaf makes them completely useless as a working dog, which was the entire original purpose of these dogs.

  • @cordelamieE It's a genetic mutation, the AKC will allow them to be shown and bred I do believe. that is why they are controversial. They originally thought it was a mixed breed until they did tests and saw a black and tan GSD deliver a litter of pups that had white pups and both parents were black and tan AKC registered dogs with no white in their lineages

  • Hey, me and my dad were considering getting a german shepherd puppy for a hunting dog (My dad knows how to train it for hunting) but some dogs are gun shy, because his dog wasn't when they were growing up they already had the dog. Would you know how we would get the dog to not be gun shy?

  • @Tux3d0 you can start with making him hear gun shot sounds from early age's 6months + start with normal guns with lower sounds then just go from there so he could get use to the sound " military training " :P

  • @espiky123 Hey thanks!

  • GERMAN SHEPHERD IS THE BEST DOG I AM ON MY 4TH ONE IT IS GOOD AS HER

    PRECEDESORS .

IT NATURALLY PROTECTS ITS RAT TERRIER SISTER .CHASES OTHER DOGS THAT PLAYS LITTLE ROUGH WITH HER SISTER THE RAT TERRIER

  • the best of any dog breed in the world GSD!!

  • Alsatians are great dogs, but they need lots of exercise, we own a 3yr old called Sabre, shes fine off the lead you just require good recall skills. They can be quite protective of family members which can be a good thing, but you also have to keep them in check. Still great dogs, just make sure you like walking up hills!!!!

  • My GSD has a beautiful brown leather coat and hazel eyes, adorable!!!

  • my uncle has a solid white german shepherd named Dutch

  • @thesweetheart321

Shut up, I had one most gentle dog I ever owned. Like the man above you said it is how any dog is raised!

  • cool thanks now i know alot about gsd i will get one soon

  • We allowed our German Shepards to run free daily, no leash, no fence. Course we had over 5 acres of land, so I guess that helps. Our first one was an American breed, the second was a German breed.

  • You fail to mention all of the health problems associated with this breed...I recommend an addendum asap.

  • my german is shephard is all white. and it looks like a horse.

  • when i was a kid i had two Gsd's puppies ,i had them till they were 4months,then they got stolen.8(

im thinking of getting a dog ,i just dont know what breed to get.

    a husky or gsd?

  • @grekodave do your reseach! i dont know where u live, but take that into account. if u live in a warmer weather state or country, i'd go with a GSD. GSDs are the best breed i've ever had and the only i'm ever gonna have. happy hunting for ur new companion!

  • @grekodave - both are good in cold weather... but gsd is a little more suitable for warm weather areas than a husky.

  • what evil side? no dog has a evil side unless u miss treat them!

  • @wethepeople401 German Shepherds do have an evil side though. They were built for protection, and can be friendly, but there will always be a small temperment.

  • @Melchildd Do you have a German? because my german is the sweetest dog in the world he is scary looking but he is very gentle and sweet.

  • @elle241983

Yeeup. I have 2 and they have had puppies before. They are registered purebred kennel dogs, and are very gorgeous!! They are Rex and Sophie. Sophie can be very friendly with other people but doesn't like other dogs that aren't ours. Rex on the other hand is a police dog, and can be aggressive.

  • @wethepeople401 not true, some dog breeds are naturally more agressive than others

  • Yet they don't show the evil side of German Shepherds......

  • my friend has a pure white German shepherd

  • i have a german shepherd, and im gonna start posting some vids of him soon on this channel, hes a beautiful almost 2 year old purebred. Smartest dogs out there!

German Shepherds are the best !

  • i know people with pitbulls, staffy's, rots who let them run off the leash in a park why wouldn't you allow a german shepard too? or does "run free" mean unattended?

  • @CityHunter84 well i have 4 German Shepherd and its only if your training them...but if you want it to let free you should put up a fence.

  • GSD best dog ,family pet, highly intelligent, gaurdian of the children,i have personally owned 2 and will not have any other breed they are the best, but they require a large area to run and a tall fence if you have a large one the breed has tremendous leaping ability.

  • The first breeding program that took place in the early development of these dogs back in 1899 they actually introduced 4 different wolf males specimens in with this blood line of the Old German Shepard Dog breed. Research if you don't believe me...almost all German Shepard's have wolf blood in them! Only problem with this line is a lot have problems with their hips, they need a high diet of calcium in their food, I give my developing puppies a lot of milk, condensed milk and raw oysters.

  • I have had Maxi for 6 years and she runs free the kids on the block play with her and she stays on the property.Best dog I ever owned this GSD.A 104 pound suck. She was a year old when I got her from a guy that chained her up in the weather outside with no brain on any training. It took 6 months training plus fixing, and proper vet care which is the key.She lives inside the house and is fully trained.Great dog.Paws for ever

  • I have a german shepherd 2 months old. He's so cute. German Shepherds are the best!

  • Thanks for the vid. My grandmother bought me my first shep when I was 7. Was a K-9 Deputy and at 58, I still love all of my GSD's for over50 years now. They are the most loyal dog with good and loving training. Now, I adopt the older GSD's who only have a few more years to go.

    Thank you for the post.

Robert pls. check the post K-9 tribute by Dave Machen, NYPD-K-9

  • Where was the "black and red" shepherd? I mean no great offense here, but for total German Shepherd information, you seem to have some totally invalid German Shepherd information. You have the book, though, so we'll go with that. I prefer a different method to the breeding and raising of my shepherds, however.

  • Just wondering, why are you saying that you shouldn't let them run free?

  • Always be sure to find a breeder that checks for Degenerative Myelopathy. It was horrible to watch my first Shepherd deteriorate from that disease. It could have been avoided if his breeder bothered to make sure his litter was DM clear.

  • All dogs are different. My GSD had her ears up at 6 weeks. However she also has megaesophagus and is very small. She is only 50 lbs. She is a beautiful black and tan with some sable. One of her brothers is over 100 lbs.

  • WTF THAT DOG IS a black and tan medium to long coat!! Whoever you are ALL dogs need walking and excercise all of them except those who dont have any legs!! Dont let them run free???? LOLFUCK OFFLOL Nxt bit says they highly active indoors and outdoors... Well not if you dont let run they not!!

  • WTF THAT DOG IS a black and tan medium to long coat!!

  • Im 12 and i have a german shepard and a golden retreiver. They are very protective dogs. They are playful too but they are really good dogs.

  • @bckcarla so should I really get one im 11 and they seem like wonderful dogs!!

  • @22grlygurl Well I was 11 when we got our one and he's a really good dog.

  • @22grlygurl thhannkss are the the kinda dog that is protective and loyal but playful 2

  • why in the world shouldn't they run free?!?!?!

  • I had a German Shepherd for 10 years, was the best friend I could of asked for. Absolutely loyal and loving dog, protective of me and my family very strongly.

Unfortunately her back legs went, so much so to a point that she found it very hard getting back up after been laid down and sometimes fell over. The vet told us she would of been in some pain so we decided it was best to put her down. I am only 21, when I move out the first thing I am going to do is buy a GS puppy.

  • @pauleddy89 awww sorry for your loss i reacently lost my bestest friend too she was gsdxborder collie and she was perfect in every way... apart from maby her farts...

But you should deffenatly get a gsd i have just got one this week! infact i dont think i will ever not have a gsd in my life they're great

  • @meyarz Haha all dogs have smelly farts like, yeah I am definitely going to get one when I move out. I can't wait.

  • Um 110 pound sounds lil much to me the average weight of a GS is usually only up into the 80's at most I've never seen one more then that they should be about the same weight as a golden retriever if not alil more due to their larger muscle mass but not into hundred pound mark

  • 16 Chihuahuas watched this video

  • @meinteil11 ..LOL

  • ive got one named sea biscuit...she is very sweet but agressive on food...she loves her belly rubbed...it calms her down..shes pretty hyper.

  • i cannot stand her accent

  • If im going to college soon, and renting an apartment...(not in the city) would it be right to own a GS their? I wouldnt think so.

  • @airman355 Please don't unless you can spend many hours a day with him and you will erxercise him faithfully every day for 45 - 60 min.

  • another 3-5 years before i get one =( i dont no how i can wait!!!!

  • my german sheperd shadow weighs 150 pounds and he is the greatest dog in the world

  • my german sheperd shadow weighs 150 pounds

  • The only issue I have with your tips is the 'they should not be allowed to run free'. I don't know how I did it, but my GSD does not need a leash.

I walk him to the store often, without a leash, but the second I say his name he is right by my side. While at the store I tell him to sit and stay... and he does until I walk back outside.

Oh, and during a cold winter, my GSD does become a couch potato. But maybe he just doesn't like being in the cold or snow and doesn't bug me for walks.

  • @agentsirus - most dogs do fine when they are raised without a leash. it's dogs who or on the leash then get off that cause most problems. Unfortunately many places have leash laws nowadays. As far as the winter... well if you let it live in the house then of course they won't want to stay in the cold. If you keep them outside all year round they won't know the difference. My mother's neighbor gsd loves the snow (lives in doghouse).

  • @his1only

OMG! I want mine back also! im heartbroken!!!!!

  • i have had many German shepherds among some other breeds the German shepherds are the only once that never let me down friendly loyal protective obedient and unlike my Labradors ive had the German shepherds were better with children

i found the German shepherd to be the perfect all round family dog as long as you worked with it and clearly let the dog know what the rules where and who the boss is

had both long haired and short haired once the long haired loose a lot of hair so lots of grooming

  • Doy cher Sch AH fer hoo nt

  • german shepherd and a Caucasian Ovtcharka would be a good mix

  • hi, I'm thinking of getting a German Shepherd but I have a question. say if I was to buy a 4-8 month old german shepherd would it not be loyal because it had a family before me? may sound a stupid question but I want to know if this is true before i buy/adopt

  • @MegaHacker11 my white gs can do that too! she's 6 months & she's adorable!

  • i love gsds i have one thats 7 months now and he is very intelligent!!! : we put him outside and he opened the door by him self !! its with a handle ..... check him out i have a video for him when he was 1 month old

  • I want a GSD. I want mine to come back :'( Miss you Jasmine. RIP

  • I love GS always have. There are beautiful, protective, and loving. Only question that I have is my grandparents have a little toy poodle. Would most German Shepherds get along with a smaller dog

  • @thatguitarguy97 I have a lhasa apso and a german shepherd, and you cannot seperate those 2 haha. They totally do good with small dogs! German Shepherds are one of the sweetest and most gentle dogs ^_^

  • yea they need training, they are so smart they know how to disobey you and get around you if u don't

  • It is proven long walks for a GSD can heighten their chances of HD and ED... and as for couch potato's My GSD's prefer to lay on their beds all day then go outside...Guess I must be a lucky one lmfao

  • Thanks for the video, I am looking at a GSD and an Akita one day as guard dogs.

  • @UnseenSpirit I work with German Shepherds but haven't worked with Akita's but from what I can understand Akita's can be unpredictable. Yes they're bigger but people will be just as unlikely to argue with you if you have a shepherd. The dogs I've worked with have saved my skin a couple of times

  • What do you mean by dont let them run free in the park etc? I let mine all the time, im now starting to doubt that im doing the right thing, could you please explain the reason why a little more, thankyou. =)

  • @salford08 I guess if fully trained you would be fine, most people are scared of GSD's so its good to keep on lead in order to cover yourself and your dogs...

  • My wife & our family LOVE our GSD's! Thor (named for the Norse god of thunder), and Hollie (name is a form of Holle, the Norse goddess of womanhood) are wonderful dogs. Hollie likes playing with our orange-hair tabby (Sarge).

  • what does emontial stable mean? (horrible spelling lol) but does it mean if say someone left the house they wouldn't whine and cry?

  • @zvz2ezzvz partly, but in my experience it means that a GSD is much less likely to 'flip' as some other breeds of dogs tend to.

  • can I keep them in a house of 7 rooms?

  • The vid is awesome. I have a three, almost four, month old german shepherd mix and i was wondering, since i know you know a lot about german shepherds, if i could send you a pic of my german shepherd and see if you can help us maybe identify his other mix. He looks a lot like a shepherd, which makes it hard for us to know what else he could be mixed with (and DNA testing i heard is expensive and sometimes very inaccurate). Please let me know if you can help us! thank you!!

  • Great Video! Very informative and to the point! Thanks for posting.

  • If I got married and I had stupid babies, I am going to feed them to a German Shepard..hey the Spitz is the most intelligent though..

  • @goodbyelonglive44 We had a Spitz/fox terrier who was the scourge of The Bronx (New York) Great Dog! Lived in the South Bronx (Mott Haven) circ. late 50's -early 60's. No one ever bothered us. Had to move because the neighborhood got tough but the dog never let us down. One tough bastard! Loved him. Rex.
