Eisner's question @ 50 minutes is actually very deep! High profits requires some *unique* capability. Sustained profits requires barriers that make it difficult for competitors to copy. What will be the *unique*, hard to copy capability of NetFlix 5 years from now that allows it to sustain profits?
Any content producer can stream (eg. ESPN 360). What stops content providers from squeezing all the profits out of distribution middlemen like Netflix?
Watching Eisner redirect the conversation every 10 minutes into some boring antiquated story about Disney came close to ruining this. Thank goodness Hastings more than made up for it with his illuminating advice.
Wow. Reed Hastings, as always, was fascinating to listen to, even when I disagreed with his opinions. Michael Eisner, on the other hand, made this almost unwatchable by going on long diversions about his life and his outdated ideas.
If you want to know about Michael Eisner, read the book DisneyWar. Great book.
