WOW! Great points!!! I noticed that I can cut loose when I play large festivals but most of my gigs are in small clubs. I usually have to use double strokes to get the rolls i want with a lighter sound

Playing more quietly/lightly is part of the "control" issue - but the other consideration is for drummers to mature as musicians - i.e., considering what would or would not sound appropriate with a given song...many, many years ago, some of my band members wanted me to play drums on the Beatles' "Yesterday"...well, I refused because I did not think the song called for drums...quieter drums/percussion may sound better for certain songs...learning to be sensitive to the music can be important...

This is a cool setting with Jo Jo and Aaron just sort of hanging out .... regarding this specific topic of dynamics ...Steve Smith talks about when he practices he plays new things very slowly and as quietly as he possibly can ... its much easier to get new movements down like that and its much easier to stay relaxed and breath evenly when you play slow and quiet ...for most of us , it is not that hard to crank up the volume ...so go the other way

Well I guess that even the best musicians can't always interprate the amazing talents that well. It is as Keith Richard's of the Stones onece said "we play by feel man...y'know". He's definately go the idea. Just turn your brain off and let the finger do the talking....well sometimes.

very very cool format lets face it you would be hard pressed to find alot of guys out there doing what jojo mayer does. it's nice to see him in another context and it is nice to see the return of comradery amongst the top guys sets a good example for a younger generation that i think frankly hasn't been exposed to that side of being a drummer from some of the top guys for the last 8 or 9 years
