I'll admit this verson isn't as bad as Arabian Knight but the fact that they turned a masterpiece into a forgetable experiece just bugs the shit out of me.
can someone tell me why in the Pan-Scan DVD of this cut has credited Steve Lively and Bobbi Page for being in Alladin? they doesnt even appear in the main cast!
well, it was a little bit better then the miramax cut (mainly because of no broderick or winters, and the ending montage song), but i'm still interested in seeing the recobbled cut
I have not seen this movie in forever, good thing I watvhed it. I had no idea so much corruption was "tailored" in the release of this feature. I do not care which version it is, it was still amazing. I am surprised anyone is talking about this feature, because it is a good movie. I thank Richard williams for even having the idea to be butchered in the first place, because without him, this feature would never have settled upon my eyes.
@KijuiKiwi Actually, about 3/4's way into the production of the movie, he was kicked off of the project because it took too long to make. So if anyone is to blame, it's the Completion Bond Company. They added all the stuff Richerds didn't want in the movie.
@MadmoneyMac actually the ones to blame is the Warner bros guys, who didnt like because it had no stupid shit that disney came up and became absolete (songs, funny characters and a flawed storyline) and gave it to the cbc
Ok if i were to give these movies medals the recobbled version would get gold, this one would get silver, and the miramax one would get bronze. They really deserve nothing, but i have to be nice cause I like Matthew Broderick.
Hey, this version isn't THAT bad. The Miramax is version is far, FAR worse. >_> I like Tack's voice in this version much more, it's so cute. (not his narration voice obviously...) Also, the Thief has no annoying voice.
You're all going to hate me for saying this, but I didn't think it was that bad. I like all 3 versions of the movie. This, Recobled and Mirimax, but for their own reasons. I like recobbled for being the original, i like this version for introducing the songs, and I like the mirimax verision for the thief's funny lines. But I do think this is my favorite version. Recobled and Mirimax being my 2nd and 3rd, respectively. No offence to anyone who hates this version.
This is a crapass movie. XD The optical illusions were definitely awesome, but the rest of it's pretty bad. Poor dialogue, certain areas of suggestive material, i.e. ZigZag, the witch...XD
Doesn't this movie remind you of Raggedy Ann and Andy? With all the allusions and such it is really something. But I still think the story could have used some work.

They should have kept Tak pale through the whole movie and I can see why this film tanked finacially. the story wasn't fully thought through, the character names sre terrible, the most of the songs stink, the script needs work and the character development was nowhere to be found. I knew there was a reason I never went to see this in the theater. Also the camera angles and animation weren't great. The only thing I do aprove of is the voice cast.
Because this film was ruined by them. Richard Williams (director) worked on this with his own money for 26 years before his work on Roger Rabbit made it possible to get the rest financed. About 20 minutes were left to animate, Aladdin was coming out and he lost his financing and was forced to turn everything over to a completion bond company whose job it is to finish a film as cheaply as possible-- even if it's terrible. Search "Thief and the Cobbler Recobbled" to see what the film almost was.

Don't be ridiculous! Your precious recobbled version is a big mess. It isn't even fully animated, which is very distracting! (Most of the parts that are fully animated are taken from this version!) The fans who made it removed everything that wasn't in the original, UNFINISHED workprint! What this film "almost was" was incomplete! The Completion Bond Company ought to be praised and thanked. Save your complaints for Mirimax. They're the ones who really butchered this film.
Yes, it isn't fully animated because it is UNFINISHED as you state yourself. And the Recobbled version isn't "precious" to me-- I just feel it's the best version available. I could go on about Orson Welles' "Other Side of the Wind" too as another lost movie curiosity. At least this one can be viewed. I'd like to see the last workprint that Williams made but it simply isn't in circulation so I'll take the fan edit with its rough storyboards and pencil tests, thanks.
Considerning it is unfinished and still more visually appealing I say the recobbled cut is amazing. I do not find the unfinished scene's distracting at all. sure I would have loved to see them finished BUT BY WILLIAMS. NOT poorly reanimated, please stop bashing on everyone who loves the recobbled cut. I do not go around critizing people because they like this version and the disney version.
By muscling in on a conversation that didn't originally involve you, you ARE criticizing me. Look, I understand what the people who put together the recobbled cut were trying to do and it's very commendable (I really mean that; I'm not being patronizing) but I happen to prefer watching complete animation rather than storyboards with a soundtrack. That's why I like this version. So can we please just bury the hatchet?
@ForbiddenDouchebag They should have put that in the credits, sure, but they didn't. It broke the filmmaker's heart and was powerful enough of an experience to make him want to retire early from the industry and never discuss the film again-- let alone have anything to do with it from that point on. I'll stand by my original comment: what balls to have put "special thanks to the completion bond company" in the credits for this film. The only thing worse is how Miramax further destroyed it.

"Special Thanks to THE COMPLETION BOND COMPANY, INC."
The irony of those words being in the credits is unbelievable. What balls to put that in there.
