  • The Camera companies and politicians profiting to keep you safe. This is a bureaucrats dream come true. Hiding behind concern for the public, while picking their pockets to save you from yourself.

3 cheers for oak ridge city council and creating what we left England and fought the British in the revolutionary war to get away from. TYRANNY! My family stopped shopping in Oak Ridge when the traps where set. We did not want to take a chance on having to pay tribute to the rulers of Oak Ridge.

  • Not to mention. in a town that can be trusted to have flashing yellow lights after 11pm on the turnpike, has no business installing traffic cams near those same flashing yellows. IDEOTS. not to mention our city workers can time a traffic light system to save their lives.

  • I hate red light cams as much as the next american with civil rights, but how can you attribute business closure to red light cams? Most of the businesses are no where near the cams. The video shows multiple car dealers closed.(BECAUSE THE AMERICAN CAR INDUSTRY IS TANKING.) And Sagebrush? I worked there. Corporate shut us down because management lost $200k in one year.

  • @nehtniglet PLUS EVERY HOLLYWOOD VIDEO IN AMERICA WENT OUT OF BUSINESS, AND GOODIES. and nothing ever made it in grove center to begin with...

  • @nehtniglet Because my family and I avoid the trap and shop else where.

  • Man there is a bunch of stupid folks living in town .... thats for dam sure... Thinking this has something to do with the red light cameras .. gee they really missed the point...omg..

  • Harry's closed because of lack of support from local residents. Do not blame these closings on the cameras...put the blame where it belongs. On the lack of support from residents for locally owned businesses!

  • You are very wrong about the closings in Jackson Square - Jackson Square Gifts closed because of RETIREMENT. The pharmacy closed a couple of years ago because independent pharmacies have a difficult time with the likes of Walgreens and CVS in a community. The closing of the pharmacy was a result of residents not supporting them it had nothing to do with the cameras. Friends Fabrics closed because the "friends" involved could not agree to disagree and their friendship was lost

  • You've got to be kidding me. The person who created this video has no idea what they are doing. NONE of these business closed due to the lights.

    Let me clarify:

Jackson Squary Pharmacy - Owners retiring

Bank and Mall- Closed decades ago

Benton Chev. - Closed by GM

Dean Stallings - Owner financial problems

    Sagebrush/Goody's/Hollywood /Blockbuster - Parent company financial problems

Harry's - Walmart and chain pet store competition

Hollywood Video - Parent company financial problems

  • READ The TIPPING POINT CASMAN AND THEN YOU MAY UNDERSTAND HOW it works! The 3 Rules of Epidemics are in play in Oak Ridge. Farragut has more forclosures than Oak Ridge because it's a different set of circumstances .

  • That's odd - Farragut has traffic control cameras galore, and they're growing in leaps and bounds!

Two businesses in this video, Gourmet Cafe and Blockbuster Video, closed as a direct result of landlords raising their rent too high. The Blockbuster store was actually the most profitable store in their region.

Hollywood vid closed due to Netflix, Redbox, etc.

  • Goldmoon is right about "not all" of the closings being directly caused by RLCs, but added to the other inane decisions made by many on the Council, they DO contribute to the demise of our City. Without any doubt, the City is still dependent on "DOE type jobs", cares little for small businesses, abhors the thought of having a "factory" in our town, and continues to appoint "committees" with vested interests to "improve OR", instead of listening to ordinary citizens.

    I say, "Shutter the Cams!"

  • I really enjoyed your video, but none of the stores shown closed because of the cameras. (I don't know for sure about Harry's, didn't know it was closing). Your video is a sad commentary on our dying town.
