Just bought a pristine copy of "Wings Over America" on vinyl for six bucks. As good as I remember it, and apparently not available on cd any more. Lucky ME! Vinyl rocks better anyway.
The album version of Denny with Pauls back vocals on this song is awsome. The moody blues version was great in 60s this was great in 70s. music like this is hard to come by these days. I feel fortunate to have lived through such great decades of 'MUSIC" Heres to the real rockers and musicians!!! They will be with us forever!!
I think Paul picked Denny Lane to be in Wings because his voice is like a hybrid of George's and John's. And he's a fine singer - maybe too go to get any spotlight in the end. Say what you want about Linda, but she had a lot ahead of her. :)
This is the best version of Go Now, I've ever heard. The Beatles were great, and Paul's vocals were, too. However, sorry Paul, Denny is by far a superior vocalist and should have had a more prominent role (Vocally) in the band. Superb backing from Paul and Linda, though.
missmanju, I was not at the concert so it is pointless to even argue with you, but I have read many places that go now was not part of wings tour, 3 dates in june 1976@ the forum. not really that important.
@craigdude1965 i find it hard to believe denny only played this song in los angeles. not in london, paris, tokyo, seattle? i'm sure he sang this song in many different cities, not just los angeles.
@craigdude1965 no, denny laine was with wings from onset 1971 to 1981 with paul and linda mccartney. wings did tour in seattle as i still have my concert ticket stub saved all these years. he definitely did sing this in seattle.... i was there.
@craigdude1965 if you're talking about this actual video, no i didn't see this video in seattle. if you look at my original comment, all i said was that i saw wings perform summer of 76 at the kingdom and denny performed this song. actually 3 songs really stick out in my mind from that concert. go now, yesterday and venus and mars "rock show", and i know i'm a nerd for saving all my concert ticket stubs!
It does not get any better than this..Denny Laine has the voice of an angel, Paul and Linda singing background....This performance is not something easily outdone by any artist, so glad its perserved for the ages.
Great song and sounds A LOT like the original (minus the brass + guitar solo). But Paul + Linda make not only a cute couple in this video but they had THE MODEL showbiz marriage. They were inseperable. And Linda looked really beautiful here.
What film is this from? It doesn't look like Rockshow or Wings Over the World. I don't remember EVER seeing that opening clip with Denny playing the sunburst Ovation & Paul swinging Stella NOR do I remember seeing the backstage clip following Go Now and the shot of Cow Palace.
Wonderful performance from Denny on this one, thank you for sharing!
Anyone who loves Denny will love this! The concert is from Rockshow and was filmed during McCartney's 1976 tour, Wings Over America. It was released in 1981 and promoted as the Seattle show. Several introductions come from the Seattle performance but the following songs were taken from a Los Angeles show: Magneto & Titanium Man, Spirits of Ancient Egypt, Let 'Em In, and Soily.
Denny's lead singing performances include Spirits of Ancient Egypt, Go Now, and Time to Hide.
Go Now and Medicine Jar were 2 highlites from these days. It was fab, gear, and boss that Paul let the other guys have their time. A great moment in time.
Every time i see this video of Denny doing one of the greatest songs EVER........i feel like i'm back in the Concert venue, June 1976 !! I love this version just as much as i love the original, with the amazing Moody Blues !!
Laine got interviewed and asked why he quit Wings he said it was because Paul wasn't going to tour anymore he said he and Paul were still friends, but Paul says he and Laine are not friends- because Laine 'broke up the band' in a way and Paul doenst forgive easily especially after his bands all broke up so may times
interestngly enugh I think this was the best linups of Wings- McCulloch,Laine,Juber and the McCartneys
I saw Denny play with Wings and his Go Now was the highlight of the night. I agree that he was under used.....but that is what you get when you are playing with a massive ego. McCartney was a bit threatened by Denny and he side lined him because of it. He didn't want another Lennon on his back and Denny was big enough to be that albatross.....McCartney couldn't handle that.
Love this song! Paul & Linda great back up!!! Denny Laine We Love You! Just seems like yesterday!!!!! Denny sounds just like the original recording w/Moody Blues! Love it!!!!!!!!
Does anybody know if Denny Laine and Paul McCartney had a falling out? Was that the ultimate reason that Wings broke up? If they did, what was the issue? Does anyone know? In the past twenty or so years, Paul has made little mention of Denny Laine. He speaks about John and George, of course. But, Paul spent 10 years in a band with Denny. Today, you'd never know it.
would have been worse had he never joined Wings right? Then what? No one would of ever knew of him outside of the Moody Blues. Stop your whining....little bitch.
not sure whether your nick name is "little bitch" or whether you are referring to me as "littel bitch" ... either way, it's a strange expression in light of what you are saying ...
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was just glued! What a performance, what power, almost BETTER that the original.

Didn't Denny Laine die broke in a caravan despite him having royalties from Mull of M.and a lot of royalties from Wings.
idle44 3 weeks ago
@idle44 Denny is still around and performing. He did go bankrupt after the Wings breakup and sold his rights to "Mull of Kintyre" to Macca.
