Does someone tell me if this song was a hit in the US? In Mexico only was a hit in Monterrey, and some DJ in the radio said that in the US it passed with no pain and no glory.
It's amazing when certain songs "stick," and this is definitely one of them. I still can recall hearing this around 1974-75, when I was about 7. I loved it even then as I do now. Enough so that by the time "If You Leave Me Now" came out in '76, I was hooked!
being from chicago...there is no music better than that created by the group of the same name. peter cetera has an awesome voice...and the sound of the group Chicago can never be duplicated. they continue to be awesome 30+ years later.
@ChowHallCommando I think we can say "they don't make music, anymore" and we'd be pretty close to accurate. When our choices are Lady GooGoo and RapCrap, it's pretty easy to see that "entertainment" just isn't what it used to be. Imagine anyone listening to a rap piece by 50 Cent or SnoppDoggieDogg or SistaSoulja and remembering where they were and who they were with. No warm, snuggly, fond memories. I guess alienation really is here. Pick up the marbles, Paul Simon. You win.
When I listen to this song, I can picture exactly where I was when I first heard it, the person I was with and just how it made me feel...all that comes back to me 30 years later and it still almost takes my breath away. Aaaah, sweet memories. Thanks for posting.
This is the most romantic song that i have ever heard from Chicago. It doesnt matter what happend in the band 40 years ago!! Chicago, including Peter Cetera went on to make millions and dont even care what ignorant people have to say about them.
3@3=... first love? the sweet innocence of true love, so deep, so meaningful, all your colours light up with every moment spent together, the sadness of being apart, the emptiness that lingers through the years knowing that no one else can compare, the longing and, finally, God willing, the reality of fulfilling one's... lost dream of being together once again... yes first love never dies... w_ _u sooo much... :)
AAaaaaaarg - I hate to be "Mr. Unpopular" here, and I AM A VERY HUGE CHICAGO FAN - especially when it wasn't "Cool" to be a "Chicago" fan, & was more "popular" to be into Zepplin or the other HARD R&R bands in the 70's & 80's !!!
@CADIEUXGR ...but this track LACKS ALL OF THE ORIGINAL CHICAGO BAND TALENT, which was done PURPOSELY, BY Cetera. Check it out - IT'S ONLY an Acoustic Guitar and VERY SIMPLE DRUMS in the background !!! F - N THAT'S IT, THAT'S NOT "CHICAGO" !!!
@CADIEUXGR F - N CETERA DID THIS ON PURPOSE, He "Launched it, under the Band's name", Sued the Band, and then put this on his first Solo Album !!!! He totally DISSED the band, man so to me, F@#% CETERA - HE NEVER WENT ANYWHERE, BY HIMSELF !!!
You and Leslie/Lesley listen to each other and stay sympathetic with each other. Everything else should be fine if those feelings you state remain between the two of you. Thanks for writing what you did. This song really helps, doesn't it!
Yes, I do remember where I was when this song came out. I was living in So Cal, heading toward a divorce (a marriage neither of us should have been in) and was looking for the lovely lady I'd lost hold of a decade before. This was one of those "stand out" songs of that period. Nothing like a band named Chicago playing a latin beat (calypso?) on a So. Cal. radio station (KNX-FM as I recall). A soft, quiet and comforting song. Since then, it has been my favorite Chicago song.
This song brings shivers down my spine. I think it's one of Chicago's best ones! If you can remember where you were when a song is played, it's a great song. The words to this means so much to me. The 70's were a GREAT time for me. I wish I could go back one day... this song would be playing on my cassette player. Thanks Chicago for the memories. Juniquejulie
just when i thought i was free & easy...you've givin' me somethin' i can understand...;) ya bo...all of my life, seems i have waited.~ hope i've made someone happy, 'tis my only goal...jillygirl~ peace~
Awesome love song - hands down!!! My bro Eric H. and I used to listen to Chicago and others (Santana, Tower Of Power, WAR, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac) ALL the time when my parents had parties. 1977- 1987. Good times! RUSH - Nation 2112.
wow, this is a great love song, my girlfriend/future wife leslie, thought of this song recently after 25 years, this song is definetely me, i am so happy right now, she is the best girl in the world! i love her more than anything, she is also the best thing that happened to me..weve waited so long for eachother as we were just kids, i want to make her the happiest and a special woman she deserves to be,oh god i love her so, if your in love i wish you felt like me and lesley, les, i love you
