The SFU band has won the world championships in Glasgow 6 times and were second this year. I don't see the Dragoon Guards listed anywhere.

@wdgarraway maybe thats because the dragoons gaurds are a professional pipe band and they cant compete at the world championships but they are better

I played for SFU on the football team. Nothing got me more jacked to go out and hit m-fers in the wrong jersey like the pipe band firing up in the tunnel before hitting the field of battle. I miss that sound, which makes your hair stand on end, and you want to either sack an english town, or cry your heart out at a war memorial. Nous Somme Prets

To The 1Drone, I heard SLOT twice over this last month and I can assure you that they are anything but poor. They've also just taken 2nd behind FM today in the Bristish Championships in Annan, 2 seconds in piping (behind 2 firsts from FM) and won the drumming.

Personally, I liked their old medley a lot more. Flowed together a lot nicer.

Nice Medley although they have played the whole slow air thing out. After hearing this, FMM's and SLoTs medleys for 2011, FMM medley and playing is away out infront. SloT are very poor this year.

The continious high level of performing and results over the last 10 years was not copied by any band ! Opening tune is great and demanding, medley is of a standard to be expected from SFU. Can't wait until august.... I will follow and cheer for SFU !!

Where do the comments like "I would expect a higher standard medley from these guys" come from? The Air in B minor finisher was very popular in 2005 and 2006-- Some would say revolutionary. The only difference is this year they made it even better by substituting Dr. Macphail's Reel with Jenny Dang the Weaver= The Perfect SFU-style finisher. Both of those years they opened with different hornpipes and jigs. Donald Cameron's Powder Horn in Hornpipe: classy.

Early days I suppose. I guess they've raised the bar so many times over the years, it get increasingly harder.

I wasn't a fan of last year's set either. OK MacCrimmon's not coming back. I get it!! lol

Agreed! Lots of good with last years but not like this.......you never know what can happen the day but you can count on them being consistently the best. C'mon, listen to those drummers too!!!! Whole package.

I dont think its a case of hating the band the medley is a bit dull for a band tha has given us such great music over the years you kind off keep expecting it to get going but it dosnt .I cant see it doing them any favours .

@1uswc So becuase it's SFU we have to like it?? that makes no sense. Some people prefer other styles and medley formats. I will not deny they are one of the best bands out there but i'm not keen on this medley. Why? it just seems a re-hash of previous material and holds nothing new for me. I don't 'hate' it but I wouldn't go out of my way to hear it...It's an amazing thing you know...not everybody is SFU mad...
