compared to the art, the egyptians showed what they considered black, like the nubians. and other captured african slaves. those people that were captured, are shown darker than the egyptians. as it is today, in many countries, the males are darker than the females. even in african cultures. look at 2:15. the ladies are very light skinned. and that orange on the males...is not the black paint they used on the other africans. their not black, but their not white. they have a tannish color. :)

If they were black, then they would have painted themselves black and not orange... Obviously, orange isn't an exact but rather idealized representation of their skin color (orange skin color obviously doesn't exist). Egyptian art is largely symbolic in nature and this was before Greeks invented realistic art, so this is not at all strange. The figures have noses that are clearly not negroid (flat and wide) but on the contrary very caucasoid in nature (sharp and elongated)...

@unapologeticmind Not orange, but medium brown tanned. I believe the men mainly tanned up from being outdoors most of the time. Go to Greece or Sicily and see many tanning up and they look very similar to how Minoan males looked in their paintings. My grandfathers parents are from Sicily, and my grandfather had naturally medium tanned skin tone, which I think can be passed down genetically if the parents sun tan all the time for most of their lives. They adapt to their environment --> sunny!

@unapologeticmind I went in the sun for around 8 hours once when i was young, working in construction, and my arms tanned up pretty dark; even today, when i lift my sleeves, there's a clear difference in skin tone! I have a perma tan now! I think this can happen to whole groups of people if they sit in the sun for years on end. This is how I think black Africans got their dark color, and also dark Indians (from India), and Native Americans, and many Middler Easterners.

Personally I think they were widely mixed, racially. Some were what we today would call "Mediterranean" or "Middle Eastern", some were black, & some "in between". I think Egyptian people were more Semitic than African, Nubians are depicted always with a dark brown skin colour in Egyptian art whereas Egyptians *usually* have a red-ish skin colour. They might've been mix of both, though, being located between more clearly Semitic peoples and African peoples (whose languages were related, they belong to Afroasiatic languages).

Some of the reconstructions of ancient Egyptians' skulls seem pretty Semitic (Ramses II for example) and some look more African.
