  • I was a Corporal with the 2nd Radio Battalion while assigned to the 24th MAU in 1983. I was at the southern end of the airport when I got the opportunity to go to Egypt on an R&R trip and left aboard ship a day or two before the bombing. Needless to say, we turned around and came back ashore on maybe Monday or Tuesday. I spent the next week digging out bodies from the BLT building.

  • god bless the us marines. wish you had never left.

  • Thanks for this vid PhonencianSailor. Brings back old memories. I was there from December 1982 until May 1983 with the French Marines. Our unit met guys from the USMC several times and I was able to put to good use my fluent English. I was on one occasion the translator during a presentation to the US forces of the French military equipment used in Beirut. I still think of the sincere comradeship felt by all of the men from the Multinational Force, whatever the country.

    God bless all of you.
