@treyj87 There was a recent firmware update that may allow greater ability to load apps. We haven't tested the Novel ourselves since it first launched, but there is a very active user discussion on our site and you shoud ask your questions there. YouTube doesn't let us put the link here, but you can find it in the video description above.

You just gave us an ereader review that didn't even review it's use as an ereader. If you're confused, so am I. I wanted to know how well it works as an ereader and instead learned that it has good "art" and extra apps.... wtf.

The black model will be released on 8/18/2010. Will have a proper push button power switch instread of a annoying slider switch on the white model. Also there will me a manual button on top to turn off Wi-Fi to conserve power. There will also be a light sensor on the front top center to ajust LCD backlight to conserve power. 2GB will be sodered on mother board instread of 1GB mini SD that is upgradable.

I got one at Bed Bath And Beyond 7-18-10, it is a white model box says 1G memory. How does one know if they have the updated firmware? Mine seems to work fine is very responsive and does landscape mode fine. I did go to pandigital site download page but see nothing listed for the pandigital novel only for frames.
It would be helpful if there was some way to access info on the unit to know if it has the latest firmware.

I'm sooo loving my Novel, it's one of 6 eReaders I own, I have over 1100 (free) books from Barnes & Nobel already. With (3) major library systems in Ohio from online downloads. Kindle can't access our library's since it's an unsopported device.
I have one of these, and it is buggy. Point one: the books simply stop working after about five page turns. And it actually doesn't go into landscape mode when tilted, believe me, I've tried every which way imaginable.
Also, where'd that case come from, I cannot find a case for mine ANYWHERE!!
@Claramata You may want to check out the Pandigital discussion on Techlicious (the link is in the video information above). Owners are saying it is critical that you install the firmware upgrade. The case in the video is from Pandigital. You can look on their site or call them to check availability.

Also, after calling pandigital I'm nowhere closer to finding the case, because they don't even have any clue when the cases will be going on sale, which I find kind of strange since they're the ones selling them.
@TechliciousMedia These were recalled in favor of the new 2G ones. I know that Kohls (where I purchased mine and where I work) is replacing the ones that were sold. My store has been promised by the vendor that the new model will be in the stores by father's day.

@shawnygz Chances are it will have the firmware update if you buy it fro Kohl's or another major retailer. Pandigital pulled the original shipment off the shelves to re-flash them with the new firmware. If you get a version with the older firmware, you can download the patch from Pandigital.
Point taken. The reason I didn't show the software running is that the guys from Pandigital didn't have the most recent version of the software running on the model I saw (the new models hadn't arrived). It was slower and buggier than it should have been and wouldn't have given a true sense of the device. I can say that the resistive touchscreen makes it more difficult to use than the iPad and other capacitive devices.
