  • @bestpctips i just slapped my ipod's apple logo sticker on it and it works suprisingly, unfortunatly now its only a mockintosh

  • @kirbykirbykirby1212 i decided to go with an msi wind u100 and it works flawlessly running 10.6.2 i might put a glowing apple logo on it soon...

  • does it have wifi?

  • The 1000 HAB has VGA/Ethernet ports reversed side. Right side: SD card slot, speaker jack, mike jack, two USB, ethernet. Left side: Power cord, VGA, 1 ethernet, lock slot. Also, there seems to be no panel to open up to replace the harddrive, it looks like you have to take the entire back/bottom off to replace the internal harddrive. There is only a panel to get to the SODIMM.

  • Would you recommend this for college students?

  • how do get 8 hours of battery life

  • how would you reinstall your OS? I want to get rid of all the bloatware out of the box... any other recommendations for that?

  • @cmonutube reinstall with the f11 partition

    use your manuals

if it came with it, then no way to remove it exept to install ccleaner (fromally Crapcleaner) to remove it

and great review by the way...

  • @JonKage

  • yea i understand some companies suck, they have people on tech support who can hardly speak english, sometimes your stuck on your own for tech support, and do not use racist terms here, people will hate you, and i assume you like hp, i like hp and acer..never used asus

  • What software is preloaded? And does it include Microsoft Office/Works trial? And does it have a Microsoft Product Key on the bottom? Also, is there a print screen button? Is there a scroll function on the trackpad?

    Thanks for the review.

  • @sadejasal depends who you get it from but normally yes

  • what a great review! thanks a lot

  • What is it like to type on?

  • I hate how when you buy a computer they partition it soo many for some reason. The first thing I do after getting a new computer is run Gparted and unpartition everything lol. And then make my own recovery partition using Acronis to however it suits me.

  • I got the same LCD lol.. good review

  • im getting the HE, after reading a ton of reviews, im sticking with HE over the HA

but Jeff, i have a couple of questions

    1) in this video, did you have 1 GB of RAM or 2 GB?

    2) where'd you get Windows 7 (possibly a free upgrade from XP?)

    3) where did you buy your 1000he? I am planning on buying mine new on amazon and i am hoping it comes with a sleeve and cloth, can anyone confirm??

  • idk if i want this one or the 1000HA...

I want the best one ofc, but my friend told me that his 1000HE make some anoying sound from the fan. Is that just something that ailments him or have you notised it to?! And I'm Not an expert so all help is god help :) thanks

  • YES!!!!!!!! i got it already it is sOOOO cool

  • Comment removed

  • would this model be capable of playing older, lower end games like gta, swat 4, halo, counterstrike, half life, and so on? please respond!

  • other netbooks run them... this one should as well I would guess...

  • With that spec more than likeley, you could probably run some orange box stuff on it too on low settings.

  • Yes and no. It won't have a graphics card on board so it won't be able to play ALL games - definately nothing very new (say released in last 3 years) - however you can definately play all pre 2001-2002 games that run on XP, in between that will be hit and miss. Note that there is no CD/DVD drive to install games from - but thats easy enough to get around ^^

  • how do u use the webcam

  • im currently using the same model in your vid but could you please tell me if its worth me installing windows 8? i dont no the differance between 7 and 8 and was wondering if its a good idea or not?

  • Windows 8?

  • Uhm.. Windows 8? :P

  • well the 8 doesnt exist yet

    so you're good with 7 =)

  • Windows 8 hasn't even been developed yet!

  • I've managed to get everything running brilliantly under Windows 7 all except the volume function keys. The rest of the function keys work. How did you fix this?

  • Asus Eee PC 1000HE is an lot different than the Asus Eee PC 1000HD the HD has not wifi-n or blue thuth 2.1 why different the two are.

  • the 1000HD also has the (arguably better) Dothan Celeron-M 900MHz instead of the puny and gutless Atom N270.

  • You guys didn't answer my question

I didnt asked if Netbook are good for games. I know its not their purpose.

All i asked is BETWEEN Msi Wind and Asus EEE 1000HE

Whos better to play some games like World of Warcraft

  • it's possible to play wow on an iPod Touch, so I'd say that yes, these netbooks will play wow.

whether they play it with an acceptable frame rate is another story.

  • Yes you can play wow. But you can only play though Screen share, with very very lo fps.

  • Ha! None! Its not who is better, none of them can even load the game!

  • You have heard of external optical drives, haven't you?

  • Quite frankly If you dont know what load means, its when you start a game or application on a computer.

  • If a Pentium III can run WoW (and it can) this can. In fact, the Celeron 353 M ones can do it too--I've done it on my 900HD.

  • Sure this computer can run wow, but its to a state of UN-usability.

  • his password is buttercup

  • I just got one of these babies. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to buy a netbook. The only drawback is that when watching HD flash videos on a browser, they playback is choppy. But thats understandable. Other than that Im loving this lovely peice of kit! 5 out 5

  • MSI Wind Or Asus Eee 1000HE ?

    Whats better for games ?

  • Neither. You don't get a netbook for playing crysis. Its like asking a calculator to play movies, which its clearly not its purpose. You can get a decent laptop for that, but it would be useless since the battery lasts shit with the GPU working heavy, unless you can keep it plugged.

  • Also, the memory can be upgraded without breaking the warranty, so there would be no problem in running windows 7 here, I've read that it works better than xp in fact. BTW not all models have SSD drives, and to all asking, you use a pen drive to install stuff... Just make an iso and mount it with daemon tools :)

  • Yeah, really, how can you expect something that's meant for simple internet and documents to play games? You can use mid-ranges for normal gaming unless you wanna go all out, then you get a higher end gaming laptop, but you seriously can't be thinking about getting a netbook for gaming, you're gonna break the poor thing.

  • Who cares man, you can run emulators on them, the guy asked which would be the best. Not for your opinion on what he should do with it.

  • At some parts you sound like you're about to burst out in tears man.

  • The EEEs (and most netbooks now actually) have SSD hard drives so it 'should' be ok in the padded case in a bag or something :)

  • some people say the fan in the 1000he is loud...would it bother others if I were in a classroom which is really quiet? and are the keys really flimsy?

  • I'm on the 1000HE right now and I found that it's quieter than most laptops I've used o.o and I don't think the keys are flimsy at all ^^ they're chiclet keys, so they're a little better than the normal keyboards.

  • how i get windows 7 on it

  • to install windows 7 u need a 3 gb minimum flash drive . But i heard u do need 2 gb of memory ram for it to run normal.

  • " 1:00" , if anything, I don't like the EEE logo on the lid. :-P

  • exactly, the logo "Eee" is the only problem I have with these netbooks.

  • Can anyone tell me how to install my MS Office on DVD in this netbook. The netbook does not come with a dvd drive, do I have to buy an external drive or is there another way to install the software?

  • Im currently looking into this netbook...NO DVD DRIVE. I guess i need to learn more still before i buy. :D

  • you could certainly buy an external drive. another way is to make a network with the main computer and share the DVD-Rom.

    3. copy the contents of the dvd on a flash-drive and install from it.

    4. Make a snapshot of the dvd with a program like Alcohol etc. Copy it in any possible way on the netbook and mount the virtual drive.

  • i might get one but i dont no .

shouldmi ? does it come with xp home already installed ? some one pls respond to me

  • Yes, it does:P

  • Dude, Google "1000HE review" and enlightened thy shall be. ;)

  • I just bought the 1000he a few days ago an it didn't come with the sleeve thing.

  • rippppped off!

  • is it worth to wait for the new atom dual core netbooks?

  • I have been looking at the reviews for all the netbooks and they never mention whether they come with a Skype-compatible camera.

  • nice vedio....im going to get this...thanx mate

  • How do you compare the Samsung NC10 to the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE Netbook? I was about to buy the Samsung when i saw your video and you have convinced me to buy the ASUS instead!. Great review by the way.

  • Yeah Ive done my research on netbooks and this is the best one out there period, well besides the Asus N10 series which is going to cost you at least twice as much .

  • i agree. best one in the market right now even without a dedicated graphics chip (the one that does come w/the chip is only 5 hours).

  • Does this PC come with flash memory instead of hard disc?

  • It comes with both.

  • can it play disks?

  • As in cds or dvds? No. The only way to do this is to get an external cd or dvd drive.

  • I guess it will run faster with XP, I use W7 RC in my Desktop PC, but if I buy a Eee I'll use XP...

  • What kind of camera did u use to film this? lol

  • Hey man, can u play games on this? stupid question but not sure =3

  • no not really. But i know that one of ASUS's new net/note books can, im not sure the name....

  • n10

  • you shouldn't be getting a "netbook" to play games...period.

  • its a question i felt relevant to my quest on finding a well valued netbook.

your comment does not help nor matter.

  • Is Windows 7 still in the beta test phase?

Where can I get a copy? Thanks!

  • the release candidate came out now, which is like a beta. microsoft's website has it

  • good review!

speaking of partitions can you suggest a good step-by-step site on how to create partitions and a recovery/ghost disc ?

  • Burn an Ubuntu Live CD and use GParted. Totally free and simple to do.

  • nice review, good detail

    btw asus is pronounced asoos.

  • Try to install the Vista ACPI drivers to make the Volume Keys work. Just google "Vista ACPI fix eee pc"

  • You mentioned installing the Windows 7 32 bit beta on this netbook. Any resaon you didn't install the 64 bit beta version?

I'm wondering if the 64 bit version of Windows 7 would work OK on the 1000HE?

  • Hi, 64 bit operating systems are made to utilize 64 bit processors of which the intel core 2 series is an example, the "2" means it uses 64 bit architecture, the N280 found in this netbook is an x86 CPU which means it uses 32 bit architecture so you only want to be running 32 bit software on it. Hope that helps.

Also thanks to jeff282282 for the good review, by far the most helpful on the 1000he, helped me choose between this and the samsung nc10. cheers

  • Thanks for the explaination danny0110.

I'll download and tryout the 32 bit version of Windows 7...:)

  • I think all product reviews like this are WAY more useful in HD. The details are what I'm the most interested in.

  • Which one would be to prefer between Samsung N120 and the Asus EEE 1000HE? I am pretty much only going to use it to watch videos when travelling. Does the Asus higher placement of the screen make it more comfortable when having it in your lap? Battery life and a good non-glossy screen are the most important aspects.

  • Could you explain a little more about the launcher utilities that don't work: Which ones are missing? How do you run them in "compatibility mode?" Many thanks...

  • can i use this netbook to play warcraft III?

    or software autoCAD for drawing?

  • I can confirm warcraft III 100%.

  • thx for the nice review. Is the keyboard big enough to do 10-finger-typing on this?

  • how in gods name do you type with your thumbs?

  • spacebar

  • it is, fux. i have large hands and type, on average, 90+ words/minute on a full-size keyboard. i have no problems with this slightly-reduced keyboard.

  • over9000 words a minute...

  • depends on the size of your hands. my younger sisters (14, 9, 8 yr. olds) and youngest brother (4 years old) don't have a problem. i have large hands compared to them and i don't have much of a problem, but being right handed, i find the right shift a little small, but i've gotten used to it.

  • solid review

  • Great review Jeff! I have a Dell Mini9 but this netbook is superior in battery life, hard drive capacity, and keyboard comfort. I have a few overseas vacation trips coming up this summer and it looks like this machine would be perfect.

  • how can i change the quick lountch buttons

  • for Windows, there is an ASUS program in the start menu. if you reinstalled with a different OS, check the asus website for it. NOTE: i have had some problems setting some applications.

  • it has a 5+ hour battery

  • Is this the best notebook?

  • First it shouldn't be thought of as a notebook. It's a netbook. Much smaller. It takes a little while to get use to the keyboard and several other aspects of the model. Many laptops (notebooks) are much more powerful, but this system is wonderful for traveling and accessing the internet.

  • Like what Michael said, this is a netbook, a subcategory of notebooks which are less powerful. But if you'd like to know if this is the best netbook, it depends. From what I've read on Amazon, cnet, & laptopmag, the most well-received from professionals & readers are the HP Mini 2140, Samsung NC10, and Asus 1000HE. Honestly though, almost all netbooks perform the same, & the differences are mainly in battery life, screen quality, keyboard size, & chassis. Personally, the 1000HE has my vote.

  • Awesome review! Thinking of picking one of these up as a living room/throw in my bag computer. My iMac is plenty enough power for when I really need to get stuff done.

  • Is it faster with win7 than with winXP SP3? what about battery life?

  • Great review, Jeff! I just bought one. It should be great for traveling, when I don't really need a full laptop. I also bought the 2GB upgrade. Question...Why do you find Windows 7 preferable to XP?

  • cool review dude... it's hard to impress me, but u did greate job and points well taken

  • Thanks for the review. Enjoy it. Would you recommand the Acer Aspire One over this EeePC?

  • how did u install windows 7

  • Beta release?

  • no like how he got it on to the system w/o a cd/dvd external drive

  • probobly used a usb cd drive

  • maybe a wireless/bluetooth cd drive..

  • Do you know what the D in 1000HD stands for? Also what is your opinion of it over this one?

  • You say it is 8,5 hours of battery time with windows 7, is this with WLAN turned on? In that case it's sick

  • Thank you for taking the time to record this video. I've been trying to decide between this exact ASUS, the Dell Mini 9 and the Acer Aspire One. You made comparisons to both and I am now sold on the 1000 HE. Can't wait to place an order!

  • Nice review, thanks.

  • After an upgrade to Windows 7 or Linux does the netbook itself keep a small partition for the triple F9 system restore? That is what one of my main concerns is. I do plan on dropping windows and going straight into eeebuntu 2.0 or dual boot since the hdd is already partitions splitting the 160gb hdd 50/50.

Is there a way to preserve that function or restore it back to factory default with what is included in the box?

  • i believe that the partition is still there and you can use it, it also comes with restore cds just in case.

  • Thanks. I was choosing what to buy and I was leaning toward the msi wind before but now this since its so much better and really the same price. So windows 7 beta works fine right. How did you install it exaclty

  • can you show us how u installed windows 7 on ur Eeepc1000he?

  • im not gonna show it in a video. but like i stated it was as easy as inserting the cd into my external drive and selecting custom install and selecting the blank partition

  • Very nice review. Thank you. One question: Do your hands get tired after couple of hours of typing? Or is it almost the same as on a full-sized keyboard ?

  • i find that it takes about an hour to get used to the smaller size and then it is fine after that, i have not experienced any discomfort.

  • Wow, I am surprised at the speed at which Windows 7 operated on this netbook.

Microsoft did a lot of work with this OS and this netbook may become my first netbook! I am loving it.

    Thanks for the review.

  • how does it handle in the outdoors sunlight ? can you work with it normally in the sun?

    great video Thanks :)

  • i havent used it alot in the sun, but i was on the bus using it with the screen facing the window and there was no glare. it worked in a situation that my aspire one would have been unusable.

  • Yup, that's it. Thanks.

  • At some point the N280 chipsets are going to have decent integrated 3d and windows 7. Thats could be worth waiting for.

  • Are the mouse buttons click or push?

  • i dont fully understand what you mean, but i would have to say they are click. they are sturdy and make a clear clicking noise when pushed.

  • how do you get windows 7?

  • got it from microsoft during their beta release

  • Search on Torrent.

  • Thanxs Bro!!!!

  • Very good review, very informative. Thank you for taking the time to do this...

  • I don't think ANY amount of thickness on the protective cover would make me feel safe enough to drop my netbook and think nothing of it.
