The 1000 HAB has VGA/Ethernet ports reversed side. Right side: SD card slot, speaker jack, mike jack, two USB, ethernet. Left side: Power cord, VGA, 1 ethernet, lock slot. Also, there seems to be no panel to open up to replace the harddrive, it looks like you have to take the entire back/bottom off to replace the internal harddrive. There is only a panel to get to the SODIMM.

I want the best one ofc, but my friend told me that his 1000HE make some anoying sound from the fan. Is that just something that ailments him or have you notised it to?! And I'm Not an expert so all help is god help :) thanks
it has a good quality in watching DVD VCD videos nice color no LAG at all..but it doest have a DVD- ROM..in watching videos in the net like youtube well thats a little problem..i dont recommend using this PC to watch youtube..
Yes and no. It won't have a graphics card on board so it won't be able to play ALL games - definately nothing very new (say released in last 3 years) - however you can definately play all pre 2001-2002 games that run on XP, in between that will be hit and miss. Note that there is no CD/DVD drive to install games from - but thats easy enough to get around ^^
im currently using the same model in your vid but could you please tell me if its worth me installing windows 8? i dont no the differance between 7 and 8 and was wondering if its a good idea or not?
I've managed to get everything running brilliantly under Windows 7 all except the volume function keys. The rest of the function keys work. How did you fix this?
I just got one of these babies. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to buy a netbook. The only drawback is that when watching HD flash videos on a browser, they playback is choppy. But thats understandable. Other than that Im loving this lovely peice of kit! 5 out 5
Neither. You don't get a netbook for playing crysis. Its like asking a calculator to play movies, which its clearly not its purpose. You can get a decent laptop for that, but it would be useless since the battery lasts shit with the GPU working heavy, unless you can keep it plugged.
Also, the memory can be upgraded without breaking the warranty, so there would be no problem in running windows 7 here, I've read that it works better than xp in fact. BTW not all models have SSD drives, and to all asking, you use a pen drive to install stuff... Just make an iso and mount it with daemon tools :)
Yeah, really, how can you expect something that's meant for simple internet and documents to play games? You can use mid-ranges for normal gaming unless you wanna go all out, then you get a higher end gaming laptop, but you seriously can't be thinking about getting a netbook for gaming, you're gonna break the poor thing.
some people say the fan in the 1000he is loud...would it bother others if I were in a classroom which is really quiet? and are the keys really flimsy?
I'm on the 1000HE right now and I found that it's quieter than most laptops I've used o.o and I don't think the keys are flimsy at all ^^ they're chiclet keys, so they're a little better than the normal keyboards.

How do you compare the Samsung NC10 to the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE Netbook? I was about to buy the Samsung when i saw your video and you have convinced me to buy the ASUS instead!. Great review by the way.
Yeah Ive done my research on netbooks and this is the best one out there period, well besides the Asus N10 series which is going to cost you at least twice as much .
Hi, 64 bit operating systems are made to utilize 64 bit processors of which the intel core 2 series is an example, the "2" means it uses 64 bit architecture, the N280 found in this netbook is an x86 CPU which means it uses 32 bit architecture so you only want to be running 32 bit software on it. Hope that helps.
Also thanks to jeff282282 for the good review, by far the most helpful on the 1000he, helped me choose between this and the samsung nc10. cheers
Which one would be to prefer between Samsung N120 and the Asus EEE 1000HE? I am pretty much only going to use it to watch videos when travelling. Does the Asus higher placement of the screen make it more comfortable when having it in your lap? Battery life and a good non-glossy screen are the most important aspects.
Could you explain a little more about the launcher utilities that don't work: Which ones are missing? How do you run them in "compatibility mode?" Many thanks...
it is, fux. i have large hands and type, on average, 90+ words/minute on a full-size keyboard. i have no problems with this slightly-reduced keyboard.
depends on the size of your hands. my younger sisters (14, 9, 8 yr. olds) and youngest brother (4 years old) don't have a problem. i have large hands compared to them and i don't have much of a problem, but being right handed, i find the right shift a little small, but i've gotten used to it.
Great review Jeff! I have a Dell Mini9 but this netbook is superior in battery life, hard drive capacity, and keyboard comfort. I have a few overseas vacation trips coming up this summer and it looks like this machine would be perfect.
for Windows, there is an ASUS program in the start menu. if you reinstalled with a different OS, check the asus website for it. NOTE: i have had some problems setting some applications.
First it shouldn't be thought of as a notebook. It's a netbook. Much smaller. It takes a little while to get use to the keyboard and several other aspects of the model. Many laptops (notebooks) are much more powerful, but this system is wonderful for traveling and accessing the internet.
Like what Michael said, this is a netbook, a subcategory of notebooks which are less powerful. But if you'd like to know if this is the best netbook, it depends. From what I've read on Amazon, cnet, & laptopmag, the most well-received from professionals & readers are the HP Mini 2140, Samsung NC10, and Asus 1000HE. Honestly though, almost all netbooks perform the same, & the differences are mainly in battery life, screen quality, keyboard size, & chassis. Personally, the 1000HE has my vote.
Awesome review! Thinking of picking one of these up as a living room/throw in my bag computer. My iMac is plenty enough power for when I really need to get stuff done.
Great review, Jeff! I just bought one. It should be great for traveling, when I don't really need a full laptop. I also bought the 2GB upgrade. Question...Why do you find Windows 7 preferable to XP?
Thank you for taking the time to record this video. I've been trying to decide between this exact ASUS, the Dell Mini 9 and the Acer Aspire One. You made comparisons to both and I am now sold on the 1000 HE. Can't wait to place an order!
After an upgrade to Windows 7 or Linux does the netbook itself keep a small partition for the triple F9 system restore? That is what one of my main concerns is. I do plan on dropping windows and going straight into eeebuntu 2.0 or dual boot since the hdd is already partitions splitting the 160gb hdd 50/50.
Is there a way to preserve that function or restore it back to factory default with what is included in the box?
Thanks. I was choosing what to buy and I was leaning toward the msi wind before but now this since its so much better and really the same price. So windows 7 beta works fine right. How did you install it exaclty
im not gonna show it in a video. but like i stated it was as easy as inserting the cd into my external drive and selecting custom install and selecting the blank partition
Very nice review. Thank you. One question: Do your hands get tired after couple of hours of typing? Or is it almost the same as on a full-sized keyboard ?
i havent used it alot in the sun, but i was on the bus using it with the screen facing the window and there was no glare. it worked in a situation that my aspire one would have been unusable.
can this browse the internet with a wireless data plan?

DediXD 2 years ago
Neither. You don't get a netbook for playing crysis. Its like asking a calculator to play movies, which its clearly not its purpose. You can get a decent laptop for that, but it would be useless since the battery lasts shit with the GPU working heavy, unless you can keep it plugged.

you could certainly buy an external drive. another way is to make a network with the main computer and share the DVD-Rom.
3. copy the contents of the dvd on a flash-drive and install from it.
4. Make a snapshot of the dvd with a program like Alcohol etc. Copy it in any possible way on the netbook and mount the virtual drive.

Great review, Jeff! I just bought one. It should be great for traveling, when I don't really need a full laptop. I also bought the 2GB upgrade. Question...Why do you find Windows 7 preferable to XP?

Do you know what the D in 1000HD stands for? Also what is your opinion of it over this one?

You say it is 8,5 hours of battery time with windows 7, is this with WLAN turned on? In that case it's sick

Is there a way to preserve that function or restore it back to factory default with what is included in the box?
cyris69 2 years ago
i believe that the partition is still there and you can use it, it also comes with restore cds just in case.

Thanks. I was choosing what to buy and I was leaning toward the msi wind before but now this since its so much better and really the same price. So windows 7 beta works fine right. How did you install it exaclty

Very nice review. Thank you. One question: Do your hands get tired after couple of hours of typing? Or is it almost the same as on a full-sized keyboard ?
Damnyounoob 2 years ago
i find that it takes about an hour to get used to the smaller size and then it is fine after that, i have not experienced any discomfort.

Wow, I am surprised at the speed at which Windows 7 operated on this netbook.
Microsoft did a lot of work with this OS and this netbook may become my first netbook! I am loving it.
Thanks for the review.

how does it handle in the outdoors sunlight ? can you work with it normally in the sun?
great video Thanks :)
ziunim 2 years ago
i havent used it alot in the sun, but i was on the bus using it with the screen facing the window and there was no glare. it worked in a situation that my aspire one would have been unusable.

Yup, that's it. Thanks.

At some point the N280 chipsets are going to have decent integrated 3d and windows 7. Thats could be worth waiting for.

Are the mouse buttons click or push?
ebaums9000 2 years ago
i dont fully understand what you mean, but i would have to say they are click. they are sturdy and make a clear clicking noise when pushed.

I don't think ANY amount of thickness on the protective cover would make me feel safe enough to drop my netbook and think nothing of it.
