Oh my gosh thank u soo much!!! honestly, u r way better than my so called math teacher....i dont think she knows how to teach math to middle schoolers...anyway thanks again i'd rather have u as a math teacher!
@takaKizne007 That's great! Keep up with your math so you wont have to do ti again when you get to hgih school. Keep up the good work! Professor Perez
@trooper1005 With x= -7, it means graph all the ordered pairs with x equal -7. It's so easy, it's confusing! Just graph the points (-7, -2) , (-7, 0) ,(-7, 2) ,(-7, 3) ,(-7, 4) ,(-7, 5) . Notice that all the x values are equal to -7! You will see that you get a vertical line. Try graphing y=-2. These means graph all the ordered pairs with y=-2. You will see you get a horizontal line. Hope this helps! Professor Perez a.k.a. MuchoMath
@catholicforever For this type of problem, choose a number for x that is evenly divisible by 3. That way you can KungFu the fraction! Try x=0, 3, 6, 9, 12, ... etc.
@allthattherewas Try going to my faculty website. The link is on my main YouTube page. The Beginning Algebra page for graphing lines has notes on this topic that you will likely find useful. MuchoMath
There's a pattern going on. It starts at 3, and then goes to 0. Is that increasing or decresing (going from 3 to 0). Well of course that's decreasing.
So by going back to regular 3, that means your not going with the pattern, because going from 0 to 3 is increasing (if you had no money, 0, and you got 3 dollars you have more now, correct?)
So now the only way to decrease from 0 is by going into the negatives and since its going down by 3, 0 - 3 = -3.
im in college and this is helping me a lil bit getting me nack inn school since i havent been in school for 2 years.
now only if more teachers were like you the exciting for class and not makeing it boring talking real slow and makeing us sleep in class so keep up the good work and i hope you do some college work on here lol
ohh. thank you SO much! because of this, i might pass my math test. i'm an 8th grader that's why i need to know this one:) by the way, you're a BIG help! keep up the good work :D
When you have a system of linear equations like this, you need to graph both lines. The point where these two line interesect is the solution. You will see that the two lines intersect at (2,4)! Thanks, MuchoMath
That's great Brian! I hope you can bring up your grade. We have many free resources to help you out with math. Use the link on my YouTube site to get to Algebra2go. Thanks for stopping by and glad I could help! MuchoMath
The table does not have to be written in any pattern. You just need to find three points before you draw the line.
Later in your course you will be talking about the slope of a line. Once you learn about slope, you will understand the pattern I was referring to in this video. Best of luc to you!
We used a clearing fraction technique to get the first 4. It's a short cut. But if you re-write the 6 as a fraction you get 6/1. Then if we multiply 2/3 by 6/1 we get 12/3 which does equal 4! To learn more about the technique that was used you need to go to my faculty webpage. The link to my site is on my main YouTube page. Once there, go to the PreAlgebra section, then to fractions, then to the Kung-Fu fractions lecture notes. The technique will be explained there.
my math tutor was starting to show me a way where you didn't have to the x/y chart thing. something about making them fractions?? do you know anything about that??
StrawberryKiwi, There are shorter methods of doing this but it depends on the level of math your in. I would have to see the work in order to uderstand what your tutor is doing. If your tutor has a website, let me know ;)This particular video is for students who are just beginning to graph lines and I tried to make it as simple as possible. Best of luck to you and thanks for the comment.
ahahah dude ur awsome im junior i jus got algebra 2 and i forgot all bout fractions and linear equations, ur video is the only one who has the same problem as my paper which im having hard time with y=2/3x+4 but urs is y=2/3x-4 BUT no big deal there thnx alot
You should always find at least three ordered pairs. That way, if one of them is wrong, you will know when you connect the dots. All three dots should line up on a straight line. If they don't, then you know one of them is wrong. Hope this helps. Thanks for the question and good luck with your math!
Yes! You can choose any value of x you want. But, we generally choose small values of x so we can plot points on a grid. At this level of Beginning Algebra, we usually choose values of x from -7 to 7. You can also choose y values too! If you do this, then you need to solve for its corresponding x-value like we did in this video. Good luck with your studies and thanks for the question. It just takes practice. Good luck with your studies and thanks for the question.
Thanks for letting me know this.... I appreciate it! This helps me better understand what students are experiencing out their on the internet. Good luck with your studies and go for the "A"!
wow this stuff is hard... thnx tho i think i mabe might somehow understand... my math teacher in school said that he was going to show a vid about this in school...
Yeah, this stuff can be hard at first. It takes practice. It is very difficult to make a video that everyone can understand but I am going to keep trying. Best of luck to you.
Raymond, if x=5, it's really easy. Just plot all the ordered pair that have x=5. (5,-1), (5,0), (5,1), (5,2), (5,3), (5,4). Shazzzammm! You should see a vertical line!
Thanks for you feedback Aflack93. It help me to understand what students like yourself experience when they watch these videos. I use this information to improve these videos. I'll try to keep him under control in the future. Oh and by the way, I myself am that annoying student.
haha, i know it was you. the video really helped me a lot. i would have failed the test if it weren't for your video. (: the day after i posted that comment, my teacher told me.
First I would recommend that you first solve the equation for y. That is, put the equation in slope-intercept form. This may make it easier to find ordered pairs. I will make a video using this equation sometime on the future. Thanks.
I'm in College and taking a Pre-Algebra 2 course. This video eplained way better than my professor. Thank you!!!!!
